So we are about done, but again I would like to thank all the hosts who participated and the clubs which leant a hand even when they were not entering the Proxy themselves.
So in particular a special handshake to
Abergavenny Rally Slot Car Club
Tyneside Slot Car Club
Wirral Slot Car Club
Great stuff guys, I hope to thank you all in person eventually
Also thanks to the Sponsors who are supporting us, and obviously all the entrants who give me this unique opportunity to live out my favourite slot car fantasies
And so to the issues raised.
What led me to the current structure was that it did strike me that if you go to a real life race day, you get a number of different races with different types of cars run in Events, so the terminology I previously used defining the various groupings as "Classes" seemed incorrect compared to reality. Additionally however whilst wanting to effectively make the proxy an open competition, I also wanted to be able to recognise the various groups of entries which we get as "Classes", (basic RTR cars, modified, scratch build and those who prefer to use premium models (procars). So that this would potentially enable an alternative way to reward entrants based on construction.
To me it is this aspect which gives us a unique type of proxy series. However either by the nature of the cars in an event or by the desire to have at least one or another more closely fault "Event" then I feel necessary to have a mixture of more and less controlled Events using the class structure.
However I had expected get more Class A and Class C cars entered and rather less Class C cars then in fact we did.
For the next Proxy I have opened up the Class A cars to include "upgraded" models & some resin body models which might increase this entry listing, and improve the Class type distribution.
Motor Magnetic Traction
As we use such a lot of tracks where magnetic traction potentially can have a performance enhancing effect, then obviously motors which are excessively higher than the regular ones should not be permitted. I should have realised that there was potentially more readily available motors that fitted this category than I thought.
So I have now introduced the "eligible motor list" as from now on. I am quite happy to add more motors, but they will need to be tested by me before they are permitted.
Guides
This is probably my biggest moan, why is it so difficult to follow the recommendations on it, I really don't know.
And it is not a new thing as right from the 1st RoadRace we had this issue of deep thick, long guides being fitted. And initially after taking pity we choose to modify the guides for the entrants, but more recently I have just left the consequences to work out as a natural penalty.
I have seen more and more international proxies specifying guide dimensional requirements and typically they are proposing 5.8mm depth guide blades, even when the tracks used don't necessarily appear to warrant using them.
General
It was my first attempt at a Rally Proxy, which I thought worked very well in general. The next two proxy's will be Championship format based Proxys to finish the "Triple Crown Theme"
Thereafter, if we are still providing sufficient interest I might look again at a "Rally Style" proxy but probably back to the RoadRace type theme.
Hope to see you all in the Autumn for the "Touring Cars Slotting Proxy"
