Tyco track with custom curves - planning
#1

Hello again,

I’m planning a track for my basement, fixed to a table with approximately 3,15m x 1,00m. It’s mainly for MT and faster. As I want to race with my soon-to-be six year old son, his friends and their dads it’s supposed to be rather easy to handle on low voltages.

The bridge will elevate about 4cm from the ground level, the underpass will be lowered 4cm. So there’s a space of 8cm under the bridge.

Before mounting it on the table all track parts will be glued to Forex board (3mm or 5mm) to keep the track even. The curbs will also be glued to the Forex basis

The whole construction will be made of a combination of a wooden grid filled with XPS foam board and flat landscape made out of XPS as well. In the end the whole construction will be a foldaway table, as there’s not a lot of space.

What do you think?

And here are some test pieces of the glued custom curves. Shortly after glueing I put silicone coated rail pieces into the slots to keep the two pieces aligned well.

Hey, thanks man! Funny coincidence: X2slotbob already recommended your skills regarding custom track pieces over at https://www.slotforum.com/. I also wrote you a message over there. Care to share your wisdom and experience? I’d highly appreciate that!

Nice looking track. Easy to marshal.

Look out for that nutty KensRedZed over at that other place. He walks around singing "They're coming to take me away"  Wrench

The track is developing a lot slower than I thought, but I just got promoted recently. So a little bit less time for track building, but I’ll get over it.  Cool

So I started making a angle template, cutting the curves and soldering the power connections to the straights. Right now my plan is to have the track itself ready by April. Baby steps, but I’ll get there.  Time

In going to follow this with interest.
Are you actually cutting the track to sizes you want?
Looking forward to see how you fix the track to the board especially you mentioned your making it to be a able to put away.
