This car represents the initial car used by the Lancia Team (Abarth) to prepare the Delta HF 4WD for the World Rally Championship.  Cars were subsequently entered in the European Rally Championship and subsequently the WRC. 

While the 4WD was winning events and ultimately successful, the next phase of development saw the widening of the wheel arches and more powerful 16 valve engines. The subsequent cars were branded as "HF integrale" (with lowercase "i"),  integrale being the Italian language for all-wheel drive.

So how does powered, forward facing front wheels benefit performance? 

Surely on every bend in the track, they will be fighting against the guide which is trying to drag them round the corner? Or do the wheels steer?

So in reality please be aware that these are not performance oriented slot cars like NSR or Slot.It    

In my experience of several all-wheel-drive slot cars they perform better when drive is removed from the front wheels.

OK, maybe 'performance' was the wrong word. 

So it is more the case that it is replicating the feature of the original car in the interest of accuracy...which I see now.

Uphill and at the end of a bend:
Uphill is clear; grip from two extra wheels.
At the end of the bend, the driven front wheels pull the car out of the bend; avoiding too much oversteer.
You have to keep in mind, that a rally track is more twisty and often steeper than a race track.
Magnets are not done on a rally track.
At the beginning of a bend you lift the throttle to avoid understeer.
In the bend the tail will come out, starting a nice four-wheel powerslide.
