Legends racing is an increasingly popular form of motorsport - the 1200cc Yamaha motorcycle-engined 5/8th scale replicas of vintage American hot rods taking place around the world. Seven body styles are permitted, with a new '37 Chevy Sedan (the blue car) joining an updated '37 Chevy Coupe (the yellow one) in the Penelope Pitlane 'Legends' range. Both kits use the same designed Penelope Pitlane 'Legends' Nickel silver chassis with equal race parts to promote competitive racing...
The chassis kit is new and improved - and the '37 Chevy Coupe body is lightened and has extra detailing. The running gear has been updated with the new PSR AC1 16,000 rpm slim can motor, larger aluminium wheels, PCS tyres and Wolfrace wheel inserts. The chassis is now supplied with 3D printed guide holder and a Slot.it guide for improved guide positioning...
Each kit comes supplied with one self-adhesive decal sheet - there are currently three different designs to choose from...
As usual with the Penelope Pitlane kits, there are two options - a body kit and a complete kit...

Scalextric C4100 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 #188 Garage 59 - Blancpain GT Series 2019. Available now. RRP £40.99
All the Scalextric talk on social media this week is about a future release... but it wouldn't be right to let this much-anticipated new-for-2020 GT car slip under the radar...
For both Aston Martin and Scalextric, this is a replacement for the hugely popular and successful Vantage V12 GT3. Both the real car and the Scalextric model were designed from the ground up, the Scalextric model being unveiled in January - less than a year after customer teams debuted the car in GT series around the world. This was our first look at the new model at Margate, nine months ago...
The new Vantage looks like it will be right up there with the very best of the Scalextric GT cars - and reports from those who have driven it seem to confirm that. The vital stats are:
- Wheelbase: 85mm
- Rear track: 62mm
- Height: 37mm
- Weight: 84g
The first livery is of the #188 Garage 59 car that ran in the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and achieved four Am Cup podiums in the five races - including a class win at Paul Ricard - to finish runners-up to fellow Brits Barwell Motorsport in the Am Cup Teams' Championship. The Scalextric car features the names of Chris Goodwin, Alexander West and Top Gear presenter Chris Harris - who shared the car at four races...
A second livery - the blue # TF Sport Vantage from the 2019 British GT Championship - is due a little later this year. Although there are some minor differences between the GT3 Vantage and the GTE version that runs in the World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series, the 1:1 cars are easily converted between GT3 and GTE spec. Whether Scalextric have permission from Aston Martin to produce the GTE liveries, we shall have to wait and see.
The Scalextric Garage 59 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is available now, priced £40.99. It will also appear in the forthcoming Scalextric ARC Pro Platinum GT set.
It is good to see Slot Magazine back in WH Smiths shops after the difficulties of lockdown. The latest November/December edition is available now, priced £5.50.

Here are some pictures and hopefully not too long and boring description of my track! This very compact layout(bit less than 8x4 ft) was built at what can only be described as a glacial rate, with construction of the baseboards (it’s built in four detachable sections) began at the start of 2014!!
The boards are 12mm hardwood mounted on 2x1 frames with 2x2 legs on foldable hinges.
All the track is standard SSD parts with SSD borders and barriers, which were painted cut and generally modified where necessary. In order to ensue reliable running, particularly given the permanent nature of the layout, all the track parts have individual feeds soldered both across lanes and from piece to piece. All four sections of track feed into a central plug in board (under the grandstand). This belt and braces approach has avoided any voltage drops/issues. The albeit tiny pit lane has the pit lane challenge game track, with for the purposes of realism has the associated tower wired to a remote location on the side of the board.
The raised sections of track are supported on plywood bases, with the scenery built using constructed frames covered with Plaster of Paris bandage. A lot of time was given to the construction of scenic retaining walls and tunnel mouths from brickpapers and embossed plasticard, and the tunnels all have ‘walls’ made in the same method, and finally all illuminated with LED’s. The landscape after painting with Woodland Scenics grass colour, were then covered with various WWS static grass materials, and finally lichens and shrubs also from Woodland Scenics.
The overbridge is an Magnetic Racing model, that has been extended with an additional span and fitted with a revolving sign. Whilst the towers and walkways have been fully detailed with internal walls and ceilings with working lights and pictures and signage. Finally various figures were added.
All the other structures are scratch built again all illuminated with interior detail etc. Various other figures and details from the likes of Slot Track Scenics have been added round the board. Details such as a small flock of sheep complete with Shepherd in a field adjacent to the track in one corner, and little things like the construction of actual 3d advertising signs (the Pirelli and Heineken signs next to the pit garage) hopefully bring things to 'life'.
The whole premise behind the layout, obviously aside from racing, mostly with pace cars (so no curves less than second radius), was to apply a level of ‘model railway’ level of scenary. Of course, and particularly given the relatively large size of 1/32 scale, the very limited space available is going to lead to inevitable compromises in the overall levels of realism, but hopefully I have captured the ‘flavour’ of a real race track, and perhaps shows how something completely self contained can be built in a small space.
Racer Sideways Toyota Celica Rodenstock.
The car:
One of two recent releases from Racer Sideways, the other being the Nissan Skyline.
The pandemic does not seem to have even broken the stride of this company at all.
The question is "Does it have the same quality as prior releases?"
Packaging
• The car is packaged with a polycarbonate transparent inner shell.
I've not seen any other manufacturer package an inner sleeve like this.
The sleeve would prevent damage if the car broke loose of its crystal case mount in transit (good) but obscures the view of the car in "mint and boxed" condition(bad?)
The crystal case base has the motor pod's optional ride height parts taped beneath.
The Build.
• Flawless paint and decalwork.
• The car was locked up tight when removed from the box.
All screws turned really tight which is a shame considering that the car is factory fitted with collared screws and washers.
The body and pod screws were loosened, but the body was still stuck tight.
The tight body turned out to be a result of the chassis/pod and chassis/body interfaces which interfere with each other.
To set up for racing, trimming and sanding will be required.
• The guide did not self centre.
• The Mirrors were fitted but not glued.
Good if you want to keep them aside for racing instead of them being lost in an on track incident, bad if you are home user who just wants to de-box and run around home track because you are sure to lose these.
• Power, Transmission and Wiring were sub optimal.
The motor wires were not routed through the guide routes or chassis routes except for the front two, see pics.
The motor wire routing was the root cause of the non centring guide. A little additional attention to detail in the build process would have been good here but given that this is a Chinese factory build, the quality of the build is still much better than most chinese builds I have seen recently.
The axle was set too loose with excessive play left and right.
In an angle winder setup , a loose axle is better than a tight one, but setting the the axle up correctly would take no time in the factory build.
The ride height was quite high. For home use, its a good compromise to have high factory ride height because a car that is supplied so that its rear wheels don't touch the track will probably end up in the bin.
For club racers and tuners , ride height will need to be optimised for your track.
The guide did not self centre out of the box.
More about that later.

Comparisons
Left to right:M1 Celica Capri
Dimensions, and overhang.
Rear body width
65.5mm
Front body width
58mm
Rear track width
62.5mm
Front track width
54.5mm
Guide length
93.7mm
You can see from the chassis comparison pictures that the celica has more overhang than the M1 but less than the Capri which puts its polar moment right between the two. Both the M1 and Capri are good performers so the signs are good.
-----
Rolling Road testing.
I put the car on the RRV2 rolling Road.
The car ran and performed in a similar way to the Capri and M1 but given the identical motor spend gearing, this is not a surprise.
Track testing
I had no opportunity to properly test the car.
Club track closures shut down any opportunity to test the car in "right out of the box" mode or to prep for club racing.
Given the triangular styling of this car wide the rear and narrow at the front, even without track testing, some predictions can be made.
Those who like their cars set up in an "outrigger" configuration might hate this car and might find it prone to roll-DeSlot and understeer.
Those who like their cars set up in "triangular" configuration will love this car.
In Summary
Another good car from RacerSideways, albeit if some small (easily corrected) defects were found in the factory build process.
Whether a shelf queen collector or a rabid club racer, this car has something for you.
My car will be initially set up with a slot it anglewinder offset pod with the factory fitted FlatSix motor and running gear.
If the 1st setup does not show promise, the car will get the "Fully modified inline conversion" treatment with a boxer style motor.
Only when the clubs open again will I be able to determine whether this model is a competitor.

As my first post, and something that was discussed on, dare I say it, another forum.
Up until now I have used only Scalextric cars on my SSD (C7042 APB) track. I am planning on trying another brand and as the title says a Revoslot car (Marcos).
Is anyone aware of any issues in using a C7005 non DPR chip in relation to motor current draw etc. Also as this range uses a metal chassis, is it wise to insulate the underneath to prevent short circuiting, and obviously isolating the chip.
New member.
Trying to decide between Carrera & Scalextric.
Room for 20x5, maybe 6.
Digital with multi car play.
