A great weekend of club racing will be streamed live on the British Racing & Sports Car Club Facebook page this weekend. There's an impressive mix of classes over the two days, including a pair of 3 hour Fun Cup Endurance races - the second running into darkness on Saturday evening. Other classes on Saturday include MX-5 Championship and SuperCup, National & Northern Formula Ford and British SuperKarts. All racing in the picturesque surroundings of the Anglesey circuit.

Sunday's action adds two races for the Scalextric-sponsored Modified Ford Series - including Andy Pipe's Escort Mk1 that was recently modelled as a slot car (see SlotRacer article here). You can see the Fords in action at 10am, 1pm and 4.50pm. The other class (except the FunCup) also race on Sunday.

The July 2021 edition of Slot Car Magazine has just been published. The printed magazine is currently on its way from the printers to Pendle Slot Racing – and the ebook is available at Lulu here. There are two competitions this time - one for an SRC Porsche 914, the other for the first two volumes of Adrian Norman's Ultimate Guide.

Here are the contents for issue #62...

  • A Hannu Mikkola Tribute by Hub Habets. We never cease to be amazed at the depth of Hub’s Rally collection. Here he recounts the history of a legend via slot cars.
  • Thoroughbred Muscle by Tony Di Pastena. The Scalextric and Carrera Mustangs sally forth into battle. Tony Di Pastena is on hand to ensure fair play.
  • Policar / Slot.it latest by Ric Woods. Some fresh examples of Italian magic from the 1970s – The Ferrari 312B2 of Regazzoni and Alfa 33/3 Nastasi/Merzario.
  • The Ultimate Guide by Ric Woods. Adrian Norman has grappled with the enormous history that Scalextric has produced... by producing 10 collectable volumes.
  • HO Pro Stock by Andy Player. It’s Rat Pack vs California Flash burning up the HO track on Andy’s home track.
  • Go Your Own Way by Marc Abbott. What? Another generic F1?! We are awash with single-seater, never-had-it-so-goodness. Bring on the Scaleauto cars... we can’t wait!
  • The Long and Winding Road by Woods/Abbott. SRC Toyota TS050 Hybrid LMP1. It took Toyota a while, but they finally won Le Mans. Ric checks out the history, whilst Marc builds.
  • Going Round The Benz by Ric Woods. The RevoSlot 1997 Mercedes CLK GTR has hit the shelves at your local slot car dealer... and it looks the business.
  • The First and the Last by Brett Jürmann. Brett recounts the first Le Mans Ferrari win – and modifies Ninco’s “Little Boat” to boot!
  • Bastos by Andy Player. Andy has always dreamt of owning an American muscle car... and now he gets to drive one: Scalextric’s latest Camaro Z28.
  • Slot Car Racing by Tony Di Pastena. Just what the doctor ordered – Tony gets some good medicine with an interview with Dr Hugh Palmer.
  • The World Of Dilworth. Demolition Man at West Hamley – It’ll all end in tears ya know!

The print magazine will be available soon from Pendle Slot Racing for £4.50. The ebook is available now from Lulu for £1.55.

I have 2 controllers with switches on them.

Anyone have an idea what switches stand for ?

Can anyone tell me why some of my old MMRC Airfix slot cars, purchased in the eighties have a oily deposit coming from the tyres? Obviously they are now quite old! But I wondered if other slot racers have any theory or information. Checkeredflag

I've bought a couple of Slot.it cars now - MacLaren F1 GTR & Ferrari 312 kit - that have had a pair of tyres taped under the box. I know the stock tyres are usually C1 compound but does anyone know what compound these spares are likely to be?

Matra's first definitive F1 car was the Matra MS10, fitted with a Cosworth DFV engine and supplied to Ken Tyrrell for Jackie Stewart to race. Stewart very nearly won the 1968 title in this car.

The MS10 was born out of two initiatives, the new French state-owned ELF oil company's sponsorship of a Matra F1 project, and Ken Tyrrell's desire to put Jackie Stewart in a Cosworth DFV-powered car for 1968. Stewart was regarded as one of F1's top talents, currently being wasted in the unreliable BRM H16 cars, and Matra could see his potential to give them the instant results they wanted in F1. Bernard Boyer designed the MS10 and it followed Matra practice of using aerospace construction methods in the construction of its monocoque.  The monocoque was halfway between the open "bathtub" and enclosed "full" monocoque by having a monocoque scuttle enclosing the inboard front springs.  Rear suspension was orthodox outboard, but the DFV was only partly stressed, using engine bay truss tubes alongside the engine.  One unusual feature was its bagless fuel tanks which allowed far greater torsional rigidity. One of the Matras being demonstrated in 2017 still does not have bag tanks, but uses the polymer resin coated aluminium tanks with which it was built 37 years earlier. It leaks a little of course, but it is remarkable that it is still usable.
As well as the DFV-powered MS10, Matra also built a very similar MS11 design to take its own V12 engine.

the car as raced in 1968.

The MS10s were used briefly at the start of 1969, when Stewart won in South Africa, and were then retired (The No 7 car in abover photo's)

The model for the MS 11 is wellknown in both 1/32nd and 1/24th - Scalextric and Carrera Respectively.

The MS 10 is less well known being made by Airfix in late 60's and early 70's.
I used to think that it was not a good replica, and have had one in my to do bucket for years.

This one was built and put together by Paolo Dapretto, and he raced at the 2021 Bordo Vintage international meet, where he cam 2nd overall but took a first in concourse.
I managed to talk him into selling it after the race.

The aluminium additions to the fron suspension and front Diaplanes are remarkable.

The top of the rear engine is removable and allows the chassis to be removed. The wing is also handmade and remarkable strong.
A wonderful piece of workmanship.

Nice to know there are others out there. Modeling the track is as much fun as racing and offers creative opportunities not found elsewhere, unless it's model railroading.
My 70 foot, two lane HO track is a joy to me. I have developed it in the attic of our home in Riverside, CA. I will share photos if anyone is interested.

Hi All,
I would like to introduce myself to you all.
As the title suggests, I live in Australia. I have been playing with Slot Cars on and off for about 50 years; however started getting serious about the hobby in 2017.
Recently started build up cars which I get the most enjoyment out of. In saying that I cannot go past a car that catches my eye from one of the manufacturers.
My main focus has been Australian touring and V8 Supercars as well as American muscle cars. , However I have been buying LMP and European GT cars as well.
Cheers

I tend to have a wide range of vintage 'loves'. As you will all know I love Ferrari (not the current F1 team mind you) but I do love lots of other cars from the sixties including Can Am.  I will keep my builds of Can AM cars on another thread, but i think I want to keep my builds in one place. I do tend to share a lot of photos on FB but they 'disappear' quickly, and for sure the forum is the place to hold and keep my builds in one place.

Just a reminder that this forum is not owned and was not set up for commercial reasons, and thus the pictures will always be here, and not likely to 'disappear' because someone makes a decision to change the database for financial reasons. I also do not want to be the only contributor here dso PLEASE feel free to add your vintage pics here, as it can make a wonderful database of 'old' loved cars.

To start are some Revell cars - 2 Corvettes - a wonderful old car from the collection of an original Pittman early 60's factory driver, and the secon one my attempt to copy the paint scheme of the 67 car that raced at Le Mans.
The Cobra I obtained painted in the 60's and I jsut loved the paint job, so left it as you see it.
