I have refused any attempt to install any sort of smart utility meter in anywhere I live.
There has been a campaign by my gas/electricity supplier to fit smart meters, to which I have not responded or turned down.
I just received an email, which appears to be genuinely from my supplier quoting verbatim:

We’re getting in touch to let you know that your electricity meter is going to be impacted by the planned BBC RTS switch off (we’ll explain this below) on 31/03/2024, meaning that it’s time for it to be replaced.

Please book your free appointment today. We need to get your meter replaced before the service is disconnected.
You can book your free smart meter appointment by clicking on the link below. We really need to get you booked in, so please follow the link to arrange your slot. If you need assistance, you can respond to us via this email and a member of our team will be more than happy to help.

What does this mean?

On 31/03/2024, the BBC has planned to turn off its RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service). Industry data shows that you have a meter that uses RTS to help manage your heating and hot water turn on and off, meaning that you may lose access to these services if your meter is not replaced before the deadline.
Although it may seem far away, we recommend booking your appointment sooner rather than later to avoid being impacted.
Should I be concerned?
No. At this stage, you still have time to comfortably book and receive an appointment within the next 6 weeks. It’s prudent to get this work done well in advance of the of the RTS coming to an end to avoid any risk of being impacted.
Having your meter exchanged is also a fantastic opportunity to modernise and future-proof your in-home metering system, which also goes a long way towards helping the UK achieve net zero.
So what do I need to do?
There’s never been a better time to upgrade to smart meters, and the great news is we have engineers available in your area to get them installed. You can book your free meter exchange  – it takes just a few minutes.

As my heating and hot water is controlled by a timer, this fishy sounding excuse holds no water for me !
I think the last paragraph is the real reason:

Why are you sending me other emails about smart meters?

We’re required by the Government to install a certain number of smart meters, and so we email all of our customers offering the chance to upgrade. In this case, your meter being impacted by the RTS switch off is the most important thing, hence us needing to get you booked in as soon as possible.

My first thought was Its a bit late for an April fools prank ! Bigsmile Rofl Bigsmile
I had not heard of it before, But It turns out this RTS is a thing.

But, I'll be beggared if I will let them use it as an excuse to fit a smart meter  Tease

Not sure if this is limited to Scalextric or not, but I have a few cars that have trouble drifting in turns. It's hard to describe maybe and I haven't had time to make a video. The cars seem to drift fine up to a point, but if they drift too far away from the rails, perhaps 15 degrees or so, then violently bounce back in the other direction back towards the rails and then de-slot. It seems as though the guide blade gets stuck or reaches a hard limit of how far it will rotate then bounces back quickly the other way. Not all my cars do this, but the ones that do it really takes away from the fun. To me drifting is like the best part of racing, approaching being out of control / too fast, but then recovering.

One car I have that does this is the "Scalextric Porsche 911 3.0 RSR Jagermeister 1:32 Slot Race Car C4211 Orange"

I've been working on a new 3D printed P34 Elf 6-wheeler. Unlike the one made by Aurora back in the day, this one is much smaller and as proportionately accurate as possible down to the scale 10" front wheels. It uses a custom frame, not a full chassis, to clamp the motor into the body. Axles and other running gear are attached to the frame. Initial test prints are being sent out to a friend for track testing. If all goes well, I'll be putting these into very limited production. The test body in the pictures is of the earliest version of the car. I may make slightly later versions as well which use a different front wing shape. As well as a different or no airbox. I just slapped a quick coat of paint on the translucent resin body without any prep work to help show the shape of the car. But also to help me better see areas that need tweaking.

This week on Talking Utter Slot: the Canadians are coming - again - and Pedro is pushed on his thoughts. Also, he remembers some drug dealers, recalls recently finding some packaging for gentlemen's enhancement pills and reminisces about The King of Magnets (R.I.P.).

Scott bravely attempts to lift things by quoting Shakespeare, is our correspondent at the Orpington International Swapmeet, tells us what makes him happy and goes a bit teary-eyed over some Cold War Commuter tat.

The question is; are we flabby in the middle?

                   Hello

I have been going through boxes left from my teenage years & founds a few gems. I don't remember buying them, but I appear to have two mint condition, unused Parma slot cars. I am trying to find out more about them. Looks like they might have folded, but I could be wrong?

My local club doesn't race them & despite how cool it must be to potentially go changing body shells, it is probably a bit too faffy for my (too busy) & my eight-year-old (too complex). We're both at the "drop it in the slot & race it" phase at this stage. Maybe when I have less (children, pets, work etc.) things going on I can visit the more committed racer's zone, but my local club has other (seemingly newer & in business) manufacturers on the go.

I'm looking at selling them - is there a recommended place to do this? I briefly looked at Ebay & can see the odd one on there. I know of Facebook groups that do slot cars sales, but often wondered just how those transactions work (seems to be a lot of trust involved!)

Any idea what would be a going price for them?
