Below is the design for a 3dp replacement light gantry for the GT Raceways track.

Given the age of the old gantry @30years (shown below) and recent issues with the IR senders and track receivers a decision was made to build a brand new gantry complete with sensors and corresponding track pieces offline. This could be debugged, then brought to the track and hot swapped over via plugs so we would have 2 complete systems.

The new gantry has been printed in 9 sections (6 for the gantry plus 3 twin IR transmitter trays) and spans 640mm of the GT Raceways 6 lane Ninco track plus borders. The design is telescopic with around 40mm of adjustment to get the span correct. The IR transmitters leds are are ganged in pairs in each tray (shown in green) at the exact lane width of the Ninco track, and are designed to be slid along the gantry to align with the track sensors. The sections will bolt together to sandwich the centre section and then be screwed to the track board.

The design draws inspiration more from Brunel rather than any particular real life gantry and is all about making it strong enough to sit still and not wave around over the track sensors.

This was printed on a Creality CR10s which has a 330 x 330mm bed which allows the longest section @270mm to be printed with plenty of clearance. Material is PLA + which is easy to print and tougher/more flexible than the standard PLA and printed with a 0.8mm nozzle at 0.32mm layers.

Above is the sections just placed together for a pic to show the size of the gantry compared to a Ninco XK120 1/32 bodyshell. This will now have the basic wiring for the LEDs put in then handed over to the club electronics wizard to complete.

Cheers
John.

I have to start a new project!

I don't know too much about racing history, I go for what appeals to my eyes when I choose subjects. This one I can't resist!
Maybe not as sophisticated a design as some of the European cars from the period, but has, I think, a flavor of '50s science fiction style... Sun

It was made to support sales of the stock Corvette but is a real race car aimed for leMans. It raced only once, at Sebring, and was very fast but did not finish.
Shortly after, GM stopped all factory racing. So this is one of those „could have been “.

There are lots to read on the web, if anyone is interested, here is one:
https://www.autoevolution.com/news/the-s...71651.html#

Off we go.

I made my own „blueprint“. This is just to get the right dimensions for the lump of wood. When it all comes down, it's about looking at photos.

Open cars are generally more easily done, but this one definitely contains challenges! We have the „dollar grin“ grille, the side panels, and more...

Wish me luck! Bigsmile

Hello, I am a 52 year old slotracer from Germany. I have a 14 m Carrera dual track. I especially like the pre wing racers from the 1960s. This winter I made my first attempt at landscaping (see photo). I think the homepage slotracer.online is great.
Many greetings
Dirk

Having looked through the 1:24 thread I couldn't see a thread for cars bought by members for 2023, so I've created the thread and kick it off with a BRM car. I've also grabbed the little 1:32 brother in the same car, post will be in the Cars bought by members in 2023

The Ferrari 512M, which debuted late in 1970, was a development of the 512S model, which during the season had shown little reliability, especially towards the Porsche 917. With the Ferrari now concentrated on the 3-liter 312PB, the 512M was entrusted for 1971 to private teams: Penske, Loos, Escuderia Montjuich, NART, Ecurie Francorchamps and so on. The car performed quite well during the year but still showed reliability issues.

The change in the regulations in force since 1972 prevented the teams from entering the 512M’s again in the world championship races. In the following years some cars appeared in a very modified form in the Can-Am championship.

Follow link for listening options : Talking Utter Slot Ep18

This week we convened for lunch (thanks to the subscribers for buying all that merch') with an expensive and disappointing sticky toffee pudding, but that barely gets any mention. However, the joy of scenery, tickling fish, Pedro's commissioned Sideways Lexus, Dave Kennedy's perspective and Scott's hospitality all get full coverage.

Plus, we discuss what sells in international departure lounges and should we stop aunties and uncles buying Scalextric?

Yes, you read that right; tickling fish. Attention-seeking podcasting at its best.
