KJoystick Interface Wiring

The Joystick Game Pad interface port can be used to time and count laps with a minimum of external electronic circuitry. The wiring diagram below illustrates the basic schematic required.

KThe photo-cells in the wiring diagram above are available at any Radio Shack retail outlet for less than $2.00 each. Ask the clerk for RS Part No. 276-145. Purchase one photo-cell for each lane on your raceway. The longer lead (Emitter) is connected to the common signal ground (Pin 4).

KNote: The 100K Ohm resistors shown in the wiring diagram above are required to simulate the X/Y axis controls on a normal joystick. These axis controls are not actually used by Lap Timer 2000, but must be present so that the Windows Game Port Driver can detect an active and functioning joystick device. You must defineGame Pad Testing a Custom 2-Axis, 4-Button Game Pad device if you use the Joystick interface.

KYou may also purchaseCable Order Form a pre-made Joystick Interface Cable if you would prefer not building your own interface electronics. Secure on-line credit card purchases can be made by using the Help | Purchase Interface Cables menuHelp Menu command.
