WHO Slot Rally - 2024 Autumn Stages
#1

It's not long to wait for a second Slot Rally club night - the WHO Autumn Stages Rally

We're still awaiting final confirmation from the council's road department, but we are looking to run Friston Forest, Jupp's Farm, Titnore Lane (with or without roadworks) and the Ford Ice Rink. Sea Lane waits in reserve.

Doors open at 6.30pm and groups will rotate around the stages as we did last time. Entry is £3 (£2 under-16s) with club cars and controllers available.

All the details - including car build regulations - can be found here: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...p?tid=3870

A report from our first event in May is here: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...p?tid=4345

Here's a reminder of those stages...

Friston Forest (SCX / Scalextric Classic)

Jupp's Farm (Ninco + Ninco off-road)

Titnore Lane (Ninco + Ninco Ice)

Ford Ice Rink (routed foamboard)

Expect a few tweaks to each of the layouts - apart from the ice rink.

We had another cracking evening of slot rally action at the Barn. Nineteen drivers tackled the four stages with 44 cars...

The start ramp was back - any most people grabbed a photo opportunity at some point during the evening. There were quite a few new rally cars on show, with only newcomers Samuel and James using the club cars. Ten people had a full complement of three cars - one each for the three classes - five drivers had two cars and the remaining four had just the one...

As usual, the drivers were split into four groups, who circulated around the stages. We had new, bigger timing cards for this rally and they were held together on a group clipboard. Two of the stages saw significant modifications for this event...

Ryan and Andy enjoyed building Titnore Lane, adding some authentic-ish elevations and adverse camber to make the switchbacks suitably fiendish. Economical use of tables elsewhere also meant the stage was nice and long.

The Classic track on Friston Forest certainly caused Jeremy headaches, but the stage was ready to run by 7pm. Although smaller than on debut in July, it was still a stern challenge to drive and particularly for cars without the necessary Classic track preparation. Otherwise, both the Ford Ice Rink and Jupp's Farm were as they were in July - the timing bridge on the ice rink having solved the issues we had back in May...

The Ninco off-road track section on Jupp's Farm remain a car-shaking trial...

The groups circulated with few problems and minimal hold-ups, meaning data was being input and analysed at WHO Slot Rally HQ by 9pm and churning out these overall results...

Congratulations to Mike on taking the top two places, with Andy third, just a couple of seconds behind. Ollie finished top junior by over half a minute!

We took loads of podium pictures - those will appear soon alongside the corresponding class results.

A very big thank you to everyone who came along last night. Special thanks goes to the set-up crew of Ash, Jeremy, Ryan, Phil, Terry, Mike and Andy - plus everyone who stayed behind to pack away.

Congrats to Mike for winning the Modern class, ahead of Andy and Rob...

Andy won the 80s-90s class ahead of Mike and Ash...

Mike was back on the top step for the Classic class with his overall winner, the SRC Porsche 916/4GT. Phil was second - also with an SRC Porsche - and Terry third with his Ferrari...

In the battle for club car honours, James finished 11 seconds ahead of Samuel...

There were also podiums for the top SCX and Scalextric runners...

Of the SCX runners, Andy's Fiat 124 finished ahead of Scott's Porsche GT3 and John's Escort RS1800...

Ryan's Mk2 Escort was top of the Scalextric runners, ahead of Rob's Mini Cooper S and Frankie's Escort...

Next will be the individual stage results.

A good mix of overall and class winners on those four stages. A very big thank you to Slot Car Magazine for supporting our first year of slot rallying with some rally-themed back issues for prizes.

Next year, we'll have four Wednesday evening WHO Slot Rally events...
  • Wednesday 22 January - WHO Winter Stages
  • Wednesday 30 April - WHO Spring Stages
  • Wednesday 23 July - WHO Summer Stages
  • Wednesday 22 October - WHO Autumn Stages
That's sixteen stages. We hope to expand on our current five basic designs and add plenty of variation to those (apart from the ice rink, of course!). If you would like to design, test and bring a track, we can drop our Johnny's Workshop power and timing modules into any SCX/Scalextric Classic, Scalextric Sport and Ninco layouts. Just let us know and we'll get your stage on the schedule.

A few more pics of last night's cars, including Jeremy's new SRC Porsche 914/6 GT...

Was it an upgrade from the TR7?

There were a couple of retro Scalextric Minis, this being Tracy's.

Mike's SCX MGA was one of the best-looking new cars and finished fourth in the SCX class and sixth in Classic.

Phil's SRC Porsche won on the Ice Rink and was runner-up in the Classic class.

Scott brought an eclectic set of cars, his GSlot Yaris not making the cut, but the Polistil Fiat 131 probably the most esoteric model that tackled the stages last night.

I was delighted with the debut of my Ninco Porsche 911SC which won in 80s/90s and went quickest on the Titnore Lane stage. There's a good chance it'll make the trip to Farnborough on 3 November.
