I have been talked into attending this event - had to talked into it as we have a multitude of overseas visitors in late august and early September (and it is the weekend of the Brussels beer festival   ).

It is 2 races with Scalextric cars - 1 Class using the clamshell cars and one with powersledge. Then 2 classes - open 1/32nd cars - vintage prior to 72.

I had to trawl through my boxes in the garage to get out the Scaley cars and then to test which to use. Below are my choices based on performance

   

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the silver hong kong Johnson motors are a good bit quicker than the blue english versions, to the (then) plain red Ferrari and the Red electra are the 2 I will choose from.
I decided that I would paint the plain read Ferrari and this is the outcome :

           

My open class GT class choices are :

       

The no 26 GTO performs really well but the Cobra took a top 6 place in Bordo - so will choose once I am testing on the track


For the sports class I will probably use the 612, but for fun might use the Chappie as the wing works in racing (flops up and down at the correct moments)



           


Will take a lot of pics at the race and attempt some videos....

Will take some 1/24ths as I believe there will be some demonstration runs

Are the 612 and 2G resin, or converted models?   I have a1/24 2G that looks similar.....but a good 1/32 is tough these days.

Hi - no they are old fibreglass bodies made by the late John Bacon in Australia!! When I first discovered his bodies - you could only buy 10, pay for them and then wait - Mine took up to 10 months to arrive. I ordered every year for 4 years like this as I just had a feeling in my 'waters' that they would not be around forever.

Sadly John did pass on and the sad story is before that happened he destroyed all his moulds - no idea of the story behind that - but very sad none the less.

I downloaded at one stage pics from the net of his track and some of the cars he built. If I remember correctly all the buildings and spectators were hand made as well.

Some confusion in reading the French rules - Scalextric cars - the clamshells and powersledge are ok. But the open classes - will have to see when I arrive

Attended the Lens meeting this last weekend.

What a wonderful track! Stunning in fact

               

The race was part of a three prong French Scalextric championship being held in Bordo, Lens and Neuvic.
Bordo was held in April, Lens Sept and Neuvic will be in Nov.

Racing Scalextric cars on a wooden track - initial reaction was - no a bit boring. But was asked by a friend to attend with hime.

I have to say - racing the powersledge F1s and Clamshell GTs was FUN!! ANd a lot quicker than I expected. We ran the GTs on 12v and Powersledges on 14v. Virtually all the powersledges ran race tuned versions and in the clamshells the Hong King 222 Johnson motor was the choice as it was by far the quickest. I had braid issues in the sledges (order now in for thicker braids) so finished stone last.
Then some last minute weight set up in my P4 to try and get stability in the corners, was not effective enough and finished 15th.
Was leading my heat in the open class when we had a computer glitch (on a really fancy but overly complex system) that stopped the race. I was also surprised to see some cars in the clamshells work very well indeed (French Porsche 930RSR and The renault Alpine - not c1 version c 028 I think). Picked up a cheap Porsche to work on as I could see some 'tricks to improve the handling further.

Good fun indeed!!

We had a dinner on the Sat evening which was really nice to sit and chat about slot cars while eating nice food.
