Slot Rally GB in Worthing - 27 July 2024
#1

We're just a week away from the visit of Slot Rally GB to the Barn - home of Worthing HO Racing.

The four stages from our first WHO Slot Rally event have been tweaked and we've added a fifth...
  • Friston Forest - Scalextric Classic / SCX
  • Titnore Lane - Ninco tarmac + Ninco ice
  • Jupp's Farm - Ninco off-road + Ninco tarmac
  • Sea Lane - Scalextric Sport
  • Ford Ice Rink - routed foamboard
The first two stages will be run twice to give seven stages in all.

Doors open at 9am, with the action scheduled to begin at 10. Entry is £5 per car, with a maximum of four cars and two in any class. Rules and regs can be found here. Payment can be made on the day, but it would be really useful to know in advance if you're coming. Either reply to this thread, message me or contact Phil Barry directly via the Abergavenny Slot Rally Club Facebook page.

For those visiting for the first time, the Barn is a typical 18th-Century Sussex flint barn and sits next to the modern English Martyrs Church building in Goring-by-Sea. The post code is BN12 4UE. You can type Worthing HO Racing into Google or Apple maps and you'll be taken straight to the Barn...

Parking is either in the church car park or on-street in the Goring Way southern slip-road outside the Barn and the church. There are no parking charges or restrictions in Goring. For those travelling on public transport, the Stagecoach 700 Coastliner stops within a few yards of the Barn in both directions. Goring-by-Sea station is 600 yards west of the Barn - a very leisurely 5-10 minute walk.

In terms of facilities, the Barn shares a toilet block with the church, including a fully-accessible disabled cubicle. There is a ramp available at the main entrance for wheelchair access. The kitchen has a fridge-freezer, microwave and a hot water machine for making hot drinks. We'll aim to have tea bags, a jar of coffee, plus milk and sugar available on the day. As indicated on the map, there is a Tesco Express and small parade of shops located about 5 minutes walk to the west of the Barn. The main Goring shops, takeaways and Mulberry pub are to the south east, about half a mile away. There is a shaded grass area at the front of the Barn and a patio area to the rear for those who need a breath of fresh air or a vape / smoke.

Any questions, just ask.

Rob and Ollie will be there. A quick question... Can I race this in the classic class? It has a co-driver but it isn't in rally livery but moulded in the chassis is "Rally Mini Cooper C.7"

We'll be debuting a new stand-alone lap timing module on Saturday...

Jean Lefebvre of Johnny's Workshop has very kindly built us some of his new Arduino-based timers, which Mike has rigged up with deadstrips and 3-pin controller boxes. They will feature on the Titnore Lane and Sea Lane stages.

We also have the brand new Scalextric Hot Laps app to play with, as an alternative to LapTracker on the Ford Ice Rink stage...

The new Scalextric Rally set isn't out yet, but you can download the app now from the Apple and Google app stores.

The Jupp's Farm and Friston Forest stages will use Ninco N-Scorers for timing.

That timing module looks great. I presume you can set the number of laps.

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers

Yes, on start-up the display defaults to laps - the knob controls up and down. When you’re ready to go, press the knob and there’s a 3-2-1 count down…

The timer starts on the first pass through the sensor, then either the completed lap number or a fast lap time is displayed on each pass. At the end of the set number of laps, END is displayed.

Turn the knob right to display total race time (in seconds) and left for fastest lap time. Press the knob only when you want to start the next race…

It’s really simple and effective. Jean had this at the Havant swapmeet last year. He was planning on something more complex, but I suggested this was perfect for a rally stage.

In addition to the usual Slot Rally GB prizes, we've got WHO Slot Rally 2024 stickers for everyone who races on Saturday, plus there are Slot Car Magazines for the top 3 finishers.

And there's a start ramp for the event, so everyone can take commemorative pictures of their cars.
