The second running of our WHO Summer stages saw 24 drivers and 64 cars take to four stages, all of which had been used for the recent Slot Rally GB event, but with some modifications...

1. Friston Forest: SCX and Scalextric Classic (plus trees!!)
2. Jupp's Farm: Ninco off-road (a new configuration for this event)
3. Burpham & Wepham: Ninco tarmac (a longer version for this event)
4: Roundstone: Scalextric Sport (slightly changed from its first running)

There was no specific shakedown stage this time, with short runs permitted on Roundstone to test any new cars.

We welcomed Lee and Cedric from Solent Slot Car Club and Neil who'd joined us for the evening all the way from St Albans Slot Car Club.

   

All racers could enter a maximum of three cars, one in each class - Classic, 80s/90s and Modern - all running to Slot Rally GB regulations. Only Stephen A was utilising the club cars this evening - and he'd get two timed runs on each stage.

   

The line up was the usual mix of stock Scalextric and SCX cars, lots of Nincos, a few 3D printed chassis conversions and some high-end SRC, Scaleauto and NSR monsters. With registration and scrutineering over and the four groups ready to go, it was time to get the 2026 WHO Summer Stages underway...

Stage One: Friston Forest

Stage winner: Mike Dadson, SRC Porsche 914/6 GT

As well as four challenging stages, there was also the hottest day of the latest summer heatwave to content with. Set-up had started early so we could build steadily, but with very little breeze through the Barn it would be a warm evening.

   

First through Friston Forest were Group 1. Jeremy has added hundreds of trees to the stages, all attached on bases that fit perfectly into the track layout. It looks sensational! Jeremy could always see the trees in his mind - he regularly walks through Friston Forest - but he is now delighted the rest of us can see them too!

Phil's new SCX Suzuki Swift was rapid through this stage, beating everyone apart from Scott. Steve's Scalextric Impreza was six seconds off Scott's similar car and most of this group were in the 60-75 second range for the stage, making it a long start to the evening, compounded by some timing issues for the big Raid vehicles. At the end, Scott led the rally - his Ninco Subaru setting a time of 49.82 seconds over the three laps.

   

Group 4 were next through the forest. Andy clocked a 42.30 run with his Ninco Subaru to briefly top the leaderboard. Jeremy came close with his TR7, but it was Mike D who banged in a 39.58 to take the rally lead. In the Solent SCC battle, Lee's Focus beat Cedric's Alpine by just over a second.

   

Ollie was the star of Group 3's visit to Friston. His Ninco Subaru followed by all three of Matthew's cars and the Isaac's Lancer and Rob's Citroen C4 - lots of quick Nincos in this group. There were also two Scalextric Mini Coopers - Rob's vintage model beating Ollie's modern version by five seconds.

   

The final group in the forest were Group 2. There were some quick runs, but Oliver's best fell just short of Mike's winning time by 2.39 seconds - two SRC Porsche 914s at the top. Other notable performances from this group were Neil's Fly Lancia 037 and Pete's Ninco Porsche 911SC - both finishing in the top ten.

An excellent start for Mike and Oliver. Top SCX runner was Phil's Suzuki, Scott's Impreza was quickest Scalextric car and Stephen was an excellent 36th (of 64) with the Scalextric Mitsubishi Lancer club car.

     

Next up was the Ninco off-road Jupp's Farm...

Stage Two: Jupp's Farm

Stage Winner: Oliver Walker, SRC Porsche 914/6 GT

   

First into Jupp's Farm were Group 2. They had a different configuration to contemplate, with a right turn into the 3D printed Hobby Classic return loop and an unsighted Radius2 kink through the Barn. As always, it was about finding a steady speed over the rough surface that didn't bump the guide out of the slot. Neil's Scaleauto Fabia was quick with a 31.55, but the SRC Porsche 914/6s of Rob, Terry and Oliver all went quicker.

   

Group 1 were next over the Ninco off-road track. Scott was closest to those rapid SRC Porsches, his Ninco Subaru clocking 32.65 seconds. Phil had a good stage with his SRC Capri, SCX Suzuki Swift and SRC BMW - the latter two sandwiching Mike's full Dakar-spec Pajero. But it's fair to say that a good proportion of this group's car struggled on this stage.

   

Jeremy led the way for Group 4 and his SRC Lancia Delta S4 was incredibly smooth, slotting in just behind Oliver's leading Porsche by 0.34 of a second. Mike's Ninco Lancer Evo wasn't far behind, but he dropped time with his SRC Porsche 914 - 5.33 seconds behind Oliver's similar car. Cedric's Avant Slot Alpine was right up there with the quick guys, just ahead of Andy's Ninco Porsche. It was Lee's first time on Jupp's Farm and his quickest run was with the SCX Escort RS1800, a contender for overall SCX honours.

   

Last through were Group 3 and could anyone knock Oliver off top spot? Ollie came closest, putting his Ninco Subaru an excellent sixth overall on the stage. Isaac's Teamslot Alpine was next, ahead of Matthew's Ninco Lancia 037 and Kev's run with the Alpine. Rob had a bit of a nightmare stage, all his cars towards the back of the field and the SCX BMW M3 dead last.

Stage Three: Burpham & Wepham

Winner: Oliver Walker, SRC Porsche 914/6 GT

   

Burpham & Wepham returned after its debut at the Spring Stages and a first running in its proper configuration (lots of Radius One corners) at the Worthing Slot Rally GB event. The stage is fast, but challenging - just like the real roads on the Duke of Norfolk's estate near Arundel. Group 3 started their evening on this Ninco tarmac stage. Rob was quickest through in his Ninco Citroën C4, recording a 50.01. Matthew's Ninco Subaru was a second slower, ahead of Ollie's Ninco Impreza and then a stunning drive by Stephen A - getting the SCX Renault 5 club car round in 54.05. Awesome job!

   

Group 2 were next on the stage. Oliver's SRC Porsche 914 remained on top form, setting the fastest time of the group with a 42.86, which was 0.77 seconds ahead of Neil's Lancia 037. Oliver's NSR Clio was another second back, ahead of Rob's SRC Porsche, Oliver's Porsche 934, Terry's SRC Porsche and Pete's Ninco 037.

   

Fastest of Group 1 was Steve's Scalextric Audi Quattro - a car that notoriously blows hot and cold. Five seconds off Oliver's pace, but a decent run. Close behind were Scott's Ninco Subaru and Phil's SRC Capri. Chas' SCX Škoda Fabia had struggled with grip, but Burpham and Wepham was a good stage for the new car, setting the fastest time of the SCX cars.

   

Ending their evening on the Ninco tarmac were Group 4. Jeremy's SRC Lancia S4 had another excellent stage, finishing on 43.85 and just 0.99 of a second off Oliver's time. No-one managed a quicker run, Mike's SRC Porsche and SRC Peugeot slotting in to fourth and fifth, Andy's Subaru eighth and Jeremy's TR7 ninth. Cedric's lovely Powerslot Nissan 350Z was twelfth overall on the stage.

In the SCX battle, Andy's Fiat 124 Spider was leading Phil's Suzuki Swift by 5.41 seconds. Rob's Scalextric RS200 led Scott's Subari Impreza by 6.89 seconds.

Stage Four: Roundstone

Winner: Mike Dadson, SRC Porsche 914/6 GT

   

Roundstone was built for the first time at the Slot Rally GB event. The Scalextric Sport stage features two of the return loops from our original WHO Rally Sprint Proxy from 2021 - Oli's donut loop and Simon's teardrop. Connecting them is a bridge up from the short-legged tables to the standard ones and some quick corners. The slick track surface is certainly a challenge when it comes to grip.

Most of Group 4's runners had tackled Roundstone at the Slot Rally GB Saturday. Mike was straight out of the blocks with a rapid 33.99 time for his Porsche 914/6 - nearly two seconds quicker than Andy's Subaru. Jeremy's Peugoet 208 was a further 0.40 of a second back. Cedric's fastest time was with his Alpine and Lee enjoyed his first taste of WHO Slot Rally, but was well off the pace.

   

Group 3 were next to tackle Roundstone. It was another good stage for the Nincos - Ollie's Impreza, Matthew's 037 and Rob's C4 all within a second of each other, followed by Isaac and Kev in the Fuller Evo. Again, Stephen wasn't far behind with the SCX Renault 5 club car. Rob pipped Ollie in their Scalextric Mini battle - vintage beating modern.

   

The rally leader was next on stage with the rest of Group 2. Oliver's Porsche had put in some stunning times and this final stage saw him slot in second, 1.48 seconds behind Mike's similar car. Oliver's Porsche 934 was next quickest (fifth overall), followed by Neil's Fabia and 037. Terry and Rob's SRC 914s were up there too. Jerome had the better of Pete in their shared Ninco machinery. Terry's Citroën C2 was fastest of the SCX runners on this stage.

   

Finishing the rally on the final stage were Group 1. Scott's Impreza was the fastest car from this group, ahead of Phil's SRC Capri and Chas' Avant Slot Ferrari 308. Scott's Scalextric Subaru was the fastest of any Scalextric car on the stage, ahead of Steve's Quattro. Scott's third car - the wonderful Toyota Crown - propped up the rest of the 64 car field.
