John Bacon's track
#1

Very sadly John is no longer with us, and he also sadly destroyed all the moulds he made for the great cars and scenery parts he designed. Have put this in here for the exact reason of showing his building skills.

Here is a set off 3 links to videos of his amazing work:

Pictures have far more impact than links - so here are some grabs from the videos above (originally loaded on youtube by Melbourne Raceway) - so NOT always centered or fully focused....but still ;)

I am so please to know I have many of his bodies lying in my to do box. Most are hard work, but most again are not duplicated.

Love his Cooper Maserati!

First batch of pics Cool

I mean he made a Lotus 47!!!

Absolutely exquisite work!

I read/see this often that moulds get destroyed and I am not too sure why... I guess to protect their work but it does mean that future generations are robbed of it.

Couldn't one simply lock them away with a time-lock of say 10 years or something?

Thanks Abie for showing and sharing.
If you have seen a "John Bacon" body in the raw then you would be surprised by their crudeness compared to some of todays resins.
He was however a visionary of his time...not to mention a hugely clever model maker.

Destroying moulds is an odd thing to do since they can be easily remade if the original shell is still present. Moulds begin to deteriorate as soon as you start using them and do have a life. Some are longer than others usually due to the shape of what is being cast.

John - I have about 25 of his bodies in my to-do box, and have built several of his cars. Compared to todays superb work and casting techniques, they are very rough. BUT - there are still a lot of his models not being made in any quantity today.

Chappy 2J and 2G, BRM can am, Ferrari 350 Can AM, 312p's, 312 F1's, 312B (although that is now coming from Policar), Lotus 47, Copper Maserati and so on...

A Few of his I have Built:

Yes I agree, Anthony....and your results look very commendable.

Some fine skills are evident there.
