I found this lovely 1/32 McLaren at Gaydon, attracted by its proportions, condition, alloy wheels, sidewinder motor,
full interior and - steering. The driver even has a separate clear visor on his full face helmet!
I'm delighted with it as it's of good quality, with some weight to it - but it seems to be a bit of a mystery machine. It has no identifying marks other than the ubiquitous 'Made in China' underneath. Several fellow 'slotters' were unable to identify the manufacturer but 'knew someone who could'. However, none could shed any light on it.
The obvious thing was to return to the vendor, who thought it was a 'one-off' by an American manufacturer that disappeared without making anything else - but he couldn't think of the manufacturer's name either.
Is there anyone out there who does please?

I don't know if this helps any further? I thought I'd see if there were any identifying marks inside. There are none but the execution is very neat, tidy and well thought out. I'm not sure if the lead nose-weight is original but the car didn't appear to have been opened before.
P.S. Suits me that there is no provision for traction magnets either.

HSRR,..........only produced the M8D, ( Gurney, Hulme, Gethin),.......they are far from the best runners out of the box, but, can be made to run quite well, albeit, with some extensive modifications.
They never sold very well, and you can still find these at a few retailers.
cheers

Thanks Beejay & Chris.
The seller was on the right lines then when he said "HPI? No, not HPI" - but he got the 'H' right and the fact it was initials, not a name.
Not too worried about it not being a performer as it looks great and I'll just run and tinker with it at home.
Since you identified it I have found a tech. spec. that mentions a traction magnet but there isn't one - and I see no evidence that there ever was, thankfully.

Seems the maker had a crack at making an accurate scale McLaren. Don't know that they made any other cars.
They are a nice car. A search of the inter web will find some tips on making it run a bit better.

Thanks for that. I had found one (very) old site that did a brief review but I see from this one that the lead weight in mine is an addition, plus the rear traction magnet and brass shim/weight have been removed, so it has been opened up, 'tuned' and used - but very gently as it looks near mint.
I love it

This might be the review that you have already found but if not hope it helps.

This is where the magnet and brass shim should sit - no loss though. Just happy with the thing and the great condition it's in
