Slot.it Chaparral 2F - 1967 Daytona 24 hours
#1

Slot.it CA46a Chaparral 2F #15 - 24 hour of Daytona 1967. Scheduled 4th quarter 2022.

With an announcement impeccably timed for the week of the 2022 Daytona 24 hours, Slot.it have unveiled the prototype and release schedule of their new Chaparral 2F. This is what Slot.it have to say...
Quote:Here at Slot.it we have a soft spot for Chaparral cars. Actually, we've had the immense privilege of being praised by Jim Hall in person for our own version of the 2E. Now comes the 2F.

About this car, the Man himself said: "For the 1967 endurance races we built the 2F. I thought that it was pretty spectacular and quite decent-looking too. [...] The car was plenty fast with the 427-cubic-inch aluminium Chevrolet engine, but we were beset by more little nit-picking problems than anyone can imagine"--Jim Hall.

The 2F certainly had pace, Phil Hill and Mike Spence starting second on the grid, behind the Ford MKII of Foyt and Gurney. Hill took the lead of the race from the start and even Ford 'hare' of Andretti - given the task of breaking the Ferraris - could not keep up. But when the 2F retired after three hours, it wasn't a mechanical failure but a crash. With the new Chaparral out of contention, it was back to the heavyweight battle between Ford and Ferrari - the Italians desperate to humiliate Ford in America, as Ford has done on European soil at Le Mans the previous June...

Enzo's revenge was sweet - joyfully creating a full-colour Ferrari 1-2-3 finish for the sports pages. The open-topped 330 P3/P4 of Bandini and Amon winning, the P4 of Parkes and Scarfiotti second - and the NART 412P of Rodriguez and Guichet third. Will we see more Daytona '67 Slot.it and Policar models, I wonder?

Back to the model of the 2F..
Quote:For the first time in a mass produced slot car, the features that are unique to this Daytona race are done properly: the radiators, in their signature rear position, divert hot air through two tail end openings, rather than through their later, 2E style, top of rear hood.

The nose of the car is also void of the characteristic aerodynamic balance openings. Unique to the Daytona car, a rear mirror springs from the right side of the driver's window.

Nose air intake and rear motor area are also unique to this specific car. Last, 'ça va va sans dire', in classic Chaparral style, the rear wing can be moved.

The Chaparral is scheduled for release in the final quarter of this year. Pendle Slot Racing are quick off the mark and have the model on pre-order, priced £58.50: https://www.pendleslotracing.co.uk/slot-...-1967.html

That's £2 more than the latest Slot.it releases at Pendles, suggesting that we won't be seeing big prices from Slot.it and Policar this year.
