The first Slot Rally of 2022 with re-defined 'Modified' class as the more historical and appropriate 'ProStock' class.

20 cars were seen in the actual Rally but many more were seen in practice.

5 Standard cars + 9 ProStock cars + 6 Open cars

STANDARD

All five cars tonight were sole entries in their classes, the regulars - Brians Abarth 131, Geoffs XK120 & Mikes Ford Focus were joined by Kevs Porsche 996 & Pantera.

PRO-STOCK

Popular as always primarily because these classes are mainly occupied by RTR cars with high end components. Brians Renault Megane was the exception being a 3D printed chassis under a Scaley body.

Two cars in 'Classic', Andys Pantera & Geoffs GT40, the GT40 NOT liking the anticlockwise run but much more competitive on the clockwise run. Andys Pantera was very consistent and comfortably won this class.

Five cars in '2WD', probably the easiest class to go well in, NSR, Scaleauto & MSC were all represented tonight.  You can enter this class with a standard class car and add alloy wheels, slotit gears and a much better guide of your choice or buy one of dozens of 3D chassis available to turn a dust gatherer into a competitive Rally car.

One new car seen in this class tonight was Kevs Aston Martin Vantage with 3D printed spotlights, not as nimble as Mikes Porsche 997 or consistent in both directions but much quicker in the clockwise run.

Geoffs Peugeot 208 always went well in this class and by far his best car on TT Grandstand tonight.

Brians Renault Megane on it's second outing is very smooth and just a couple of seconds behind Mikes other car in this class tonight the Scooby WRC.

'4WD' doesn't often have competition for the win, tonight Brians Peugeot 208 T16 was back in it's 4WD form to do battle with Mikes Evo X with Mike getting more out of his car than Brian to finish a few seconds ahead.

OPEN

Andys XK120 was the sole entry in 'Small Classic' and went as well as it always does.

'2WD' is popular with the Open class guys and is where the quicker cars round the stage are found.  Geoffs Toyota and Brians Peugeot 206 were pretty close but the 206 was Brians best car tonight and much quicker on the second run.

Kevs Scooby has been the car to beat for a while in this class had to put in a storming second run as Andys Ferrari F40 was quicker on the first stage.

'4WD' has been a regular class for Andys Mitsubishi EVO, both quick and consistent.

Race reports - 17th March - Slot Rally

A good turnout tonight, 6 club members and 24 Rally cars.

Standard Classes

Seven entries, only one class disputed tonight, Ninco 80’s between Chris & Gavin.  Both cars were the drivers second best performing car overall.

It was great to see an even mix of 80’s, 2WD and 4WD with Ninco being the favourite manufacturer.  Kev, Chris, Gavin, Mike H & Mike B all supporting the Standard classes.

ProStock Classes

This is where the bulk of tonights entries were seen with multiple entries in each class.

ProStock Small Classic
Two entries, Kev’s 3D printed Sunbeam Tiger and a Mike H modified SCX Alpine A110.  The Sunbeam going really well on it’s first Rally.

ProStock Classic
Two entries, Kev’s 3D printed Mustang Mach 1 and a Mike H modified Ninco Lancia Rally (037).  The rather large Mustang went much better than expected on it’s first Rally.

ProStock 80’s
A popular class tonight, Chris with two cars, a Fly Porsche with an Olifer 3D chassis and a slightly modified Slotwings BMW M3 with front mounted motor and solid front axle.
Mike H with a much modified Scaley RS200 and Gavin with a MSC Metro 6R4.
The Fly Porsche was the car to chase in this class.

ProStock 2WD
Five cars made this the most popular class, three NSR’s and a couple of highly modified Scaley cars. Chris’s Honda Civic missed 2nd spot by less than a tenth of a second with Brians Porsche only half a second away. Kev’s Aston Martin was the quickest car round TT Grandstand tonight.  Brian’s Renault was a smooth runner but not on the pace as last time out.

ProStock 4WD
Three entries, two of which were Mike B’s and there was very little in it between them, the MSC 4WDslightly better. Brian’s Peugeot 208 T16 was the other car in this class which looked more at ease in the clockwise run.

Open Class
With Andy away on the other side of the world, there was only one car in these classes, Brian’s Peugeot 206 was his second best runner overall.

As time was getting on, we ran 12 laps Anti Clockwise but reduced that to 10 laps on the Clockwise runs.

Next week is ‘Club Challenge’ round #2

Race reports - 21st April - Slot Rally

Of the five Standard Class cars there was competition for top spot in Ninco 80’s and SCX 4WD both classes having two entries.

Between the twelve Pro-Stock Class cars entered there were three classes contested by more than one car with three Classics, three 80’s and four 2WD.

We also saw two Open classes contested with two Small Classics and three 2WD.

Of the cars not seen before, Gav’s Abarth 500 went better in the clockwise run whilst Andy’s grandson George drove four of Andy’s cars and went best with the little Clan Crusader.

Personal best runs:

  • Kev’s re-chassied Opel Manta in Pro-Stock 80’s.
  • Andy’s Ferrari F40 in Open 2WD.
  • Brian’s Peugeot 206 in Open 2WD.
  • Mike H’s Toyota Celica in Standard Ninco 2WD.
  • Gav’s Abarth 500 in Pro-Stock 2WD.
  • George’s Clan Crusader in Open Small Classic.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Next week is Club GT40’s, hopefully we’ll see the return of a couple of club members who have been unable to get to the club for the last two weeks.

Race reports - 26th May 2022 - Slot Rally

With ‘Death Race 2022’ imminent (IoM TT) and some members unable to attend due to illness, work or being off island there were enough of us to see sixteen Rally entries.

15 lap runs all round as we had time and only 16 cars to drive round.

A few cars were seen with new owners tonight, Brian’s DeTomaso Pantera, Gav’s AC Cobra and Porsche 997.

Gav has upgraded his controller and should be fully up to speed with it’s adjustments in due course.  Settings were chosen which suited the SCX Citroen Xsara nicely, the car driven well in control and smoothly…the same settings don’t work for cars with much quicker motors but those will be found.  As it turned out this was to be his best car tonight…sometimes slower is faster.

Brian’s Pantera (nicknamed DeTomato) is a little flier and will be seen many more times I suspect.  The Peugeot 206 was a few seconds quicker though and his best car tonight, slightly quicker in the ‘slow’ direction but he’s much happier now he has a bunch of ‘proper’ Rally cars…they’ll probably go even better if he remembers to bring the correct controller next time!

Andy was reccying with a bunch of small classics, what to Rally, MiniSprint…Moggy 1000…Anglia…Alpine A110…in the end the Anglia was chosen.  The Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40 were easy choices and there was a welcome return of the Jaguar Xk120 which ended up his second best runner tonight.  One or two too many deslots spoiled a couple of runs but again probably affected by controller tuning as his usual one is…finally in the post!

Kev’s four car choices were quickly selected (for a change) with a Volvo 850 T5 seen on the stage for the first time, it went well but still looked a bit too hasty with current controller settings.  The Opel Manta and Mustang seen last time went well again (especially the Manta) with the final choice runner Ninco Lancia 037 managing quick stage times.

Car comparisons

---------------------------------------------------------------

Next week sees a change to the race calendar as we’ve swapped the next two weeks around.  So next week is Le Manx (Group C & LMP) - race format to be decided - the following week is Small Sports/Saloons & Group 5

Race reports - 30th June - Slot Rally

We had a good turnout tonight, 20 cars and a great fun atmosphere.

Brian is a good sport as he referred to his secret code book numerous times for the ‘Enigma Machine’ (controller) he wasn’t put off as he drove the Peugeot 206 to a class win in Open 2WD and two runners-up spots in Prostock Classic and Prostock 2WD.  His best performer tonight was the NSR Porsche in Prostock 2WD.

Geoff’s Moggy Minor was the car to beat in Prostock Small Classic with Mike’s Alpine A110 finishing a few seconds behind in either direction round TT Grandstand. Geoff’s Toyota Supra managed a runners-up spot in Open 2WD, keeping up with Brian’s Peugeot in the anti clockwise run.  His best car tonight was the Scaleauto Peugeot in Prostock 2WD.

Kev rallied a couple of Standard class cars, the Ninco Lancia 037 in the 80’s class the best of the two, the Ninco Jaguar in the Classic class tripped up a couple of times despite having most of the ballast removed put back in.  The big Mustang Mach 1 went well in Prostock Classic to finish ahead of Brian’s yellow DeTomato.  The Volvo 850 that was a bit hasty last time out ended up his best car tonight winning Prostock 2WD whilst up against a couple of quick cars in Brian’s NSR Porsche and Geoff’s Scaleauto Peugeot.

Mike H was seen tuning a Lancia Stratos…it was going really well after ballast tuning tips from Kev but extra weight added just before the Rally started seemed to hinder the cars performance…two steps forward and three steps backwards it seems. The Renault Alpine A110 went well in Prostock Small Classic, keeping Geoff’s Moggy 1000 honest.  The Ninco Toyota Celica went just as well as the Alpine as the sole entry in Standard Ninco 2WD.  A class win in Prostock 80’s for the Ford RS200 was a nice surprise.

Gav’s AC Cobra was a real surprise going really well and was his best performing car tonight and the sole entry in Open Small Classic.  The NSR Abarth 500 was one of six Prostock 2WD entries tonight and should go better with some ballast. The Metro 6R4 was runner-up in Prostock 80’s behind Mike’s RS200 whilst the Porsche 997 was one of three Open 2WD entries.

COMPARISON CHART:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Next week is the next round of ‘Club Challenge’ as the Moslers get their fourth run out this year.
