I recently completed (except for windscreen) this build for an upcoming proxy for 1.5 liter 1960's Grand Prix cars.  The resin shell (Pre-Wing) has been finished with Tamiya rattle can primer, color coat, and top coat.  My questions are:

1. Can Tamiya's "Finishing" polishing compound be used over top coated decals?

2. Is Tamiya's "Modeling Wax" a better product to use over top coated decals?

3. Can you recommend any other products?

Nice looking car! 

Almost any polishing compound has very fine grit. I would avoid compounding the decals.

Any liquid may soften the decal including wax.

I barely touch the wax with a one finger over a piece of soft T-shirt material and choose exactly where the wax goes. These are small cars. Only the large exposed areas need to sparkle.

Concerning wax. The best wax on the market in my opinion is "Mothers". Modeller's wax is just a smaller bottle for the same price as a large one for real cars. I'm sure Tamiya product is excellent too.

Hi Bob, Any of Tamiya's polishing compounds can be used over their gloss paints or gloss/semi gloss clear topcoats.....they are formulated for this, and work without any issues........I have used them on many models, and recommend them highly.

Their modelling wax is excellent, and can also be used, either on uncoated or coated decals, but, if used without a clear top coat, it will not provide the protection generally need for a slotcar,.....particularly one entered in a proxy 

My recommendation (if your finish is smooth)  would be to use the "fine" and "finish" compounds only.......you will get a gorgeous finish !!
