1956 Ferrari D50

When the pubs open this scratch building will end ,can't afford both .
This is the Penelope Pitlane kit all complete ,so again more of an assembly than a true scratch build  Really looking forward to this one learnt a lot from the previous Maserati .Just a few photos of the bags of bits ,there is an option to change the chassis to allow a bigger motor ,this will come later  It's the same one I fitted to the Cooper Ford

Finished painting the body ,came out OK ,considering the near disaster at the start .Scrubbed the body in hot soapy water ,let it dry in the sunshine ,first coat of primer and it all went pear shaped with the paint reacting to the silicon still on the body ,quickly cleaned it off with petrol and the started again with very light coats of primer ,glad to say it worked . Got the chassis built ,its a bit tight ,hopefully running it should ease it off .The chassis is now fitted to the body and I think it looks nice and low .All the other bits to paint and fit ,might have it done tomorrow !!

Looks like it will be another good one, and should sit nicely with the Maserati. Thumbup

Remembering you have the Lancia Ferrari D50 as your version with the incorporated panniers was called , I managed to find this pic .

I thought it might be added cooling for...... something and I think that may be what it is

Looking closely below - you can see that the piping parts are aluminum and small radiators would be flat black....

I reckon its a variation on the type of oil coolers known affectionately as a porcupine.  The sporty versions of Imps had such a thing which comprised simple tubes with short loops of wire welded/braised all around them.

Hi Leo , when I first looked to me that it could have been a badge of some sort ,it was obvious when everyone said , oil cooler . Might get it finished today except for the blue and yellow nose stripes ,that needs nerves of steel and a steady hand  .Must get some Tamiya masking tape .
