Hi,

I run my own club, with two 4 lane analogue layouts.
One is routed, average lane length 32 feet, fast and flowing and painted with ultra smooth masonry paint.
The other is Scalextric sports track, again painted with the same ultra smooth masonry paint, average lane length 57 feet, and much more technical with changes in levels etc.

I own a good number of Jaguar E Types, of many brands.
Basically it all depends what you want to race them against!
The Scalextric versions available now are, as has already been pointed out, a pretty accurate scale model, but this of course doesn't always relate to the best handling car!
They are correct in being front engined, but this always gives a few headaches.
We actually race, as a club class, these current Scalextric E Types, on both tracks, and against each other they are great. With a bit of tweaking they are on par with the Revell/ Monogram cars, not far of a Ninco, but yes, one of Mr George Turner's cars, with the chassis set low and slightly wider than scale would be much quicker.

To get our club class cars sorted I did just the basics.
True the tyres, magnets out ( E Types at magnet speed, no thanks!), two small 5 gram weights strategically place around the rear axle area, and most importantly slacken the body screws a good bit.  Yes, that is always the way to get almost all cars to handle, but on these it made a massive difference.
On the Routed layout they skipped and bucked on full acceleration, even with the weight in place , until given a few turns of each body screw.
On the painted Scalextric track they are awesome. Really good for drifting out of the bends, and great fun as a club class, as they are so different to drive compared to the modern wide, low type of cars. With the magnet in place there fine, but it just hides all and any handling characteristics, like all slot cars with magnets.....

The rear exiting exhaust pipes are a bit fragile in hard racing, but otherwise no issues at all.

Thank you for replies. I did buy a Revell model and it is ok but not good with magnet removed. It is as I have said in tyres thread, finding grip tyres to replace the Revell is a problem as it is with many others.
