Worthing HO Racing 2019 - all the action from the Barn
#11

As I might have mentioned, we build a different track for each of our HO and Scalextric digital events at the Barn. Various club members have responsibility for the various classes: Simon does WHO Mod, Keith decides on Nascar, Mike Mc F1, me the AFX team races and Mike D and Simon share design duties for our WHO/digital events. That gives us nearly ten years-worth of designs for between 12 and 25 events a year! A jpeg of the track part of the report of each and every event on our website: whoracing.org.uk/racing

Returning to the present day, here is Simon's layout plan for tomorrow's WHO Mod championship-decider at the Barn...

Here's a video of some of the action from last night...

It was a fabulous evening and some great racing too. The post-race coverage is gradually coming together on the WHO website.

Our third and final AFX Endurance Championship team race of the year took place on Wednesday. It turned out to be one of the closest ever finishes and a fabulous evening of racing. All the post-race coverage is on the website: whoracing.org.uk/afx_october2019

The direction of our Nascar class has been steered by two club members, Deborah and Keith. They aim to get to a real Nascar race each year and did the Charlotte Roval in 2018. Ever since, we've been planning this year's WHO Nascar season final for an AFX version of the Roval...

This is what it looked like last night, decorated by some banners and flags brought back from Charlotte last autumn...

And the racing was pretty excellent - fast and with a suitable amount of mayhem!

Some of the action is in this video...

The final round of our 2019 HO season is next Wednesday (4 December). The club championship and junior championship were wrapped up at the November Nascar race, but we have a mouth-watering three-way battle for the F1 title to look forward to in seven days time...

With 160 points for a win, 130 for second and 110 for third, it is winner-takes-all for any of the top three. Deborah, Keith and Terry finished in the top three places at the last F1 race in September, so it promises to be very close. None of the four drivers has ever won an individual WHO championship...

Our F1 races usually feature replicas of real-life circuits - some quite obscure - and this time we've gone for Karlskoga (thanks to the SlotRacer Online Track Plans section)...

Doors open at 6.30pm for practice next Wednesday, with heats starting at 7 - everything should be done and dusted by 9.30. Results, a report and a video will be post here.

I'd never heard of Karlskoga until I saw it in 101 Circuits. After some research, I still don't know much. Rofl

I'd heard of Karlskoga as it's where Stirling Moss won the Lotus 19's first race (and there's a Spark 1/43 model of that car). There's a nice history of the circuit here: https://www.racingcircuits.info/europe/s...skoga.html

However, it was Anderstorp that hosted the Swedish Grand Prix when I was growing up - including the only Grand Prix win for the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler in 1976, Ligier and Jacques Laffite's first win in 1977 and a controversial win for the short-lived Brabham fan-car in 1978. Sadly, there's been no Swedish Grand Prix on the calendar since then.

Our other three WHO F1 rounds this year were on our AFX replica of Suzuka, our take on the Mexico City Grand Prix track and this UK circuit, which was planned but never completed...

If you need more info, there's a fascinating article here.

Yes, that was the main article I found about Karlskoga too. Good stuff.

Interesting Donington proposal, not seen that before. Thumbup

It was cracking evening of racing...

Keith picked up the Formula One title, beating Terry by less than a lap in a very tense A final. Jerome won the race, putting him in an exclusive group of three WHO racers who have won multiple A finals as juniors.

The post-race coverage is nearly there, just the race report to finish: whoracing.org.uk/december2019

That is the end of our HO season - with just a Scalextric Digital Saturday on 14 December to wrap up our tenth year at the Barn.
