Race report and results - 18th June 2026 -
- NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge 2026’ #5 plus NSR Moslers
- F1, Classic F1, prewing F1, Grand Prix

.
It was busy tonight with ten club members, George was again a visitor during pre-race practice, Mike was back from holiday and Jamie was back, keen to try his new controller and Sidecar.
.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge 2026’ #5 plus NSR Moslers
.
With the track turned down to 11V for this event we still had seriously quick racing.
Eight ‘Club Challenge’ entrants (in order of appearance on the track):
- Mike, Kev, Brian, Chris, Paul, Ed, Andy, Geoff
…and two club members racing their own cars:
- Dave & Jamie raced their own Moslers
One of three drivers to manage sub-six second laps with Andy & Kev, Brian was shocked to find he’d managed to get into the 5.9’s, especially as his Mosler had so many ‘offs’.
6.0 second hot laps for Mike, Geoff & Jamie.
6.1s for Chris & Dave.
Ed managed to get into the 6.2’s bracket, that must have been satisfying for him.
Paul’s best run was in Yellow lane, only one deslot all night and very consistent.
.
F1, Classic F1, prewing F1, Grand Prix
.
The track was turned back up to 12V and it was time for another class of fast cars.
NSR F1’s filled the F1 grid. In order of appearance on the track we saw:
- Andy, Ed & Brian (NSR 86/89 F1’s), Jamie (NSR 2022 F1), Dave & Mike (NSR 86/89 F1’s)
Andy’s NSR F1 was in a race of its own ahead of the rest. A traffic disrupted run in his favourite Yellow lane reducing his overall lead by at least one lap…but that’s racing!
Ed’s best run was in Red lane, it’s his practice lane and he always looks comfortable racing in this lane.
Brian fared much better with his NSR F1 after the earlier Mosler races, three 23 lappers got second podium place. Three clean runs for Brian, ‘keep it in the slot’ and let the laps take care of the rest.
Jamie’s NSR F1 2022 got the most laps of all on Yellow lane, winning Heat #5, it’s deceptively quick in that it doesn’t look as fast as the shorter earlier NSR’s. A great race to finish on the same lap as Andy in Heat #4.
Dave managing numerous 6.0 second laps with his NSR F1 was good to see and was the second fastest of the NSR’s on hot lap pace. Mike’s NSR F1 was more consistent though with three 21 lappers to finish slightly ahead of Dave.
.
We had a mix of earlier classics and GP cars. In order of appearance on the track we saw:
- Paul (Cartrix Porsche 804), Geoff (Policar Ferrari 312B2), Kev (Policar March 701 + Lotus 24), Chris (resin Brabham BT24 on a Pitlane chassis)
Paul has a couple of Cartrix Grand Prix cars, tonight it was the turn of the Porsche 804. It’s very consistent and the sole GP car.
Geoff & Kev raced Policar Classic F1’s, they did race together in one heat, both super smooth cars but Kev’s March had to be swapped for a Lotus 24 towards the end of its second run as the Policars are a nightmare to get the bodyshell off in a hurry to fix a guide wire. The last race of the night saw Geoff’s Ferrari and Kev’s Lotus 24 cross the line a few car lengths apart to a round of applause.
Chris chose his resin Brabham BT24 tonight, another nice smooth runner but half a dozen ‘offs’ in Yellow lane spoiled his overall score. Easily his best run though was in Blue lane in Heat #8, passing Geoff’s Ferrari which was lost under the bridge, with the BT24 crossing the line half a lap clear for the win.

SRF F1 SIDECARS - (we race these every week)
.
Eight SRF Sidecars tonight with more to come! Ed’s outfit isn’t ready to race yet and Paul had to go before we raced them.
In order of appearance on the track we saw:
- Kev, Dave, Chris, Andy, Geoff, Jamie, Brian, Mike.
First of all the ‘newcomers’, Jamie’s black & silver outfit, won his final race, in Yellow lane beating Brian’s much improved outfit by a couple of seconds.
Chris did turn up with his RAF liveried outfit last week but had to retire from the race on the first lap. This week it was ready to race and very consistent it is too. Winning the last race of the night in Red lane, one second ahead of Dave in Blue lane.
Chris has done a great video on building one of these -

.
Kev’s outfit was back up to speed this week, mostly down to less aggressive controller settings. A best run in Yellow lane whilst finishing behind Andy’s outfit in Blue lane.
.
Dave’s outfit is on the pace, a little more consistency will see him much further up the results chart. A best run in the last race of the night in Blue lane finishing one second behind Chris is Red lane.
.
Andy’s outfit was also back up to speed, managing the only 23 lapper of the evening whilst in Blue lane winning ahead of Kev in Yellow lane.
.
Geoff’s silver outfit (now with 10mm tyres) is one of the quick Sidecars. A best run whilst in Blue lane and a trio of 21 lappers all night.
.
Brian’s spent hours on his Sidecar this week and that work paid off as his white outfit managed a 22 lapper in Heat #7 finishing a couple of laps ahead of Dave & Mike.
The squeaky-scratchy-clicky is still there, did someone say ‘Flipper the Dolphin’?
.
Mike’s outfit looks like it’s lacking a bit of pace, although geared like the ‘quick’ outfits and consistent with three 18 lappers, something is holding his Sidecar back.
.
Here’s a reminder of the setups that seem to work well:
- Gearing - 3:1 or thereabouts, i.e. 11/34, 12/34 or 12/36. This gives plenty of acceleration and brakes and more than enough top speed.
- 10mm wide tyres gives a great selection of tyre choices, tried and tested compounds in this size on BallaYorkley are NSR Alan Mann Untragrips, Thunderslot 002 or 004’s and NSR Zero graining tyres (if you have the patience to true them as they take ages!)
- A good chunk of ballast down the centre of the chassis seems to work well.
- A small diameter front tyre so it doesn’t foul the chassis or touch the bodywork.
- How tight the bodyshell fixing screws are seems to have a big effect on handling, trial & error here.
.
A ‘gentleman's agreement’ formulated after a discussion with the SRF design team to keep the racing close for everyone:
- Slotcarmann Harrier handout motors
- 10mm wide tyres
- No tyre treatment once Sidecar racing starts
- Ballast inside the outfit only
.
Three videos this week…enjoy!

Next week at the Manx Scalextric & Slot Car Club…
- Slot Rally on our three unique permanent tracks. 4 cars each, approximately 60 second run times for the quicker cars. Standard out-of-the-box cars with minor tuning are popular with classes specifically for these.
