Hello Steam,
The irony/relevance did seem lost when I ran the "EV Triathlon" a few years ago. Not many people rushed to enter :-(
I had considered a follow up event that would include the Formula E cars from Carrera and Scalextric but at that time the environmental benefits of EVs were being questioned so I abandoned the idea.

"questioned" ... when the evidence is plan to see... There is so much FUD /Dear Uncertainty and Doubt) about EVs and renewables out there it almost makes me sick...
I will never ever force someone to drive something they don't want but when people come with total and utter nonsense about EVs being "worse" they can never ever produce verifiable. peer-reviewed evidence...
BTW: Just did two weekends of traveling over 1000 KM in a Skoda Enyaq half of which pulling a trailer with a motorcycle on it. No charging issues (all pull-through chargers, no detaching the trailer or waiting) , supposedly always 100% renewable (I am a bit skeptical about that...) and with barely any added time as I am now past 50 and have to stop every 2 hours anyway... I was easily passing trucks and other SUVs on the uphill parts clipping along nicely at 100 KPH as the dino-juice farters lost their torque... Driving an EV for towing is actually a LOT easier than with ICE...
We have 2 BEVs and they get charged 90% of the time from the sun (yes, even in winter). It isn't that hard.
They aren't perfect and not for everybody but for most people, most of the time and in most places they are more than adequate.
I did not intend this thread to become a discussion on EVs but as it seems to be heading that way .......
Electric motors are far and away better drive units than ICE. The problem lies in the batteries primarily, and charging infrastructure also. Here in Aus distance is a real thing, we have to travel 400kms to the nearest city capital, we can do it a day in an ICE but an EV would need an overnight stay.
Hybrids, either PHEV or true hybrid are the best option at the moment. We drive a true hybrid and find it good.

Not seeing any irony at all.
However, it does go to show how far ahead of the curve our hobby is.
Shame that no major slot manufacturer has the muscle to get their logo onto a major EV formula car.

Any EV with capacity of 80 KWh or higher in battery can do 400km in one go without stopping even with the air con on. Charging time with a car with that capacity to do 400KM with one charging stop would be 10-15 minutes tops... And I challenge anyone to go to the bathroom in that time (and wash their hands!) in less time than that... but as you say... to do that, you have to have a charger...
That is a map of Australia's charging infrastructure and I admit there are white spots particularly in the north. Orange spots are chargers above 50KW that will do the charging time I mentioned above.
Like I said, EVs are not perfect and not for everybody but for most of the people, most of the time in most places they are more than just fine...
I am simply pointing out that a lot of the FUD about them is just that, pure utter cow manure...

Thank you for the map, however I am already aware of charge points. As you say 400kms is doable but is dependant on charge poinrt availability. The closest charge point of any description (apart from domestic) to us is 40km away. Finding one in the local towns is a lottery, and in the cities, not always conveniently located.
Hence hybrid suits better at the moment.
