Manx Slot Car Club - 2026 race reports & results
#1

Race report and results - 1st January 2026 - Club Revoslots followed by Grand Prix & F1 -
.
Club Revoslots:

.
Take them out of the box, clean the tyres, check the braids, race them, put them back in the box, wait a few months, repeat…
…yes, they just work, every time.  Every club should have a set of Revoslot club cars because they’re great cars, very even, all slightly different in character and everyone has a personal favourite.

.
Grand Prix & F1:

.
The first noticeable change to this year's race calendar is the amalgamation of the four Grand Prix/Prewing/Classic and F1 cars into one evening.
The cars are separated in the results and where possible the much smaller Grand Prix cars will race together.
.
As numbers were a little reduced tonight, we had to mix the cars but were warned the wide F1 cars weren’t allowed to overtake in the tight chicane… as Ed found out when he was reminded after his NSR F1 nerfed a GP car off in the middle of the tight chicane.
.
As it turned out the five of us had entered cars in five different classes so everyone was a winner tonight.
.
It was pleasantly surprising that the majority chose to race the slower Grand Prix cars, I’d wrongly assumed the NSR F1’s would be most popular… here’s hoping this is an ongoing trend.

.

Next week is Saloons followed by Sports.
Saloons now consists of all Saloon type cars, Small Saloons, Saloons (and silhouettes), plus Group 5 saloon based cars.
Sports now consists of all Sports type cars, Small Sports, Sports, Group C/LMP and Group 5 sport based cars.

Race report and results - 8th January 2026 - Saloons followed by Sports -
.
What an amazing turnout we had on Thursday, nine racers and that’s with some club members not able to get to the club!
…we had a few visitors tonight, at one time I think there were 14 people in the room!!!
.
We’ve made a point of being more visible to the public this year, highlighting what it is we do on local social media groups; it seems there are quite a lot of interested people out there, we just have to make them feel welcome when they visit our club.
.
As far as the results sheets are concerned, I’ve always listed cars & classes in a specific way:
  • Standard Class - Modified Class - ProStock Class - Open Class
With our new amalgamated groups I will list them in this way:
  • Small Saloon - Saloon - Group 5
.
SALOONS

.
Gone are the three separate types of saloons, now we will see small saloons, big saloons and Group 5 saloons all racing together.
Small Saloons are limited to 9mm wide tyres and 54mm overall width across the tyres.
Saloons & Group 5’s are limited to 10mm wide tyres and 64mm overall width across the tyres.
…in theory the small saloons are at a big disadvantage… theory isn’t always right  ?
.
We saw a wide choice of cars and classes tonight, a couple of club cars were also raced by newer club members.  These club cars are race proven and competitive against our own cars.
.
One thing we will see are more winners as the cars are separated by class in the results.  There’s also a car comparison chart so we can see how the different classes of cars compare.
.
There were six class winners tonight:
  • Kev’s Anglia in Small Saloons (ProStock Class)
  • Ed’s Ninco Opel Calibra in Saloons (Modified Class)
  • Brian’s SlotIt Opel Calibra in Saloons (ProStock Class)
  • Andy’s Peugeot 406 in Saloons (Open Class)
  • Jack’s Club BMW 320i in Group 5 (ProStock Class)
  • Mike’s Capri in Group 5 (Open Class)

Comparison chart:

.
SPORTS

.
Gone are the two separate types of sports, now we will see small sports, big sports and now joined by Group 5 sports all racing together.
Small Sports are limited to 9mm wide tyres and 54mm overall width across the tyres.
Group 5 Sports are limited to 10mm wide tyres and 64mm overall width across the tyres.
Sports are limited to 12mm wide tyres and 64mm overall width across the tyres.
…Sports are the quick guys here!
.
Three class winners this time:
  • Kev’s Thunderslot Mclaren in Sports (Prostock Class)
  • Andy’s Audi R18 in Sports (Open Class)
  • Ed’s Racer Porsche 935 in Group 5 (Prostock Class)
.
Jamie knocking on the door of his first sub- 6 second lap… oh so close!

Comparison chart:

.
Lot’s of great racing to watch and enjoy driving in.
.
In the last couple of years or so we’ve changed a lot to accommodate new club members with their needs, it has to be said it’s been for the better.
So far after only two weeks it’s looking like the amalgamated classes are a great idea; it’s interesting to see what the club members prefer driving.
…2026 should be a really good year.

 ----------------------------------------
Next week is the first of this year's theme nights - ‘Battle of Britain’ - for British & German cars.
We race one car of each type i.e. one Brit, one German.  The only proviso is no open wheelers (F1 type cars)..

Race report and results - 15th January 2026 - British & German cars (Battle of Britain) -

.
Another amazing turnout tonight, eleven racers!... and it was great to see Paul back again.
…a lot of extra work organising the racing but a room full of banter and happy racers made a great atmosphere.
.
Tonight was the first theme night of the year, this one is for British and German cars (no open wheelers), we all raced one of each and the cars were mixed for both sessions of racing.
.
What we’ve done in the past is 5 qually laps then select the teams.  With 22 cars this would take far too long so I’ve used everyone’s fastest lap to seed the cars.
Initially with 22 cars there would have to be 11 teams of 2 but Paul had to go early and didn’t race the second round, this meant 21 cars which is much easier to create more teams.
7 teams of 3 cars is the format.  To try and equal things, teams were selected like this:
Team 1. Fastest car, slowest car
Team 2. Second fastest car, second slowest car
Team 3. Third fastest car, third slowest car
…down to Team 7.
The last 7 cars were teamed up like this:
Fastest car joined Team 7.
Second fastest car joined Team 6.
…down to Team 1.
.

One of the good things about these theme nights is we see cars never raced before and tonight was no exception.
There was a great variety of car types and eras, the smallest was Kev’s Mini, dwarfed by the various Bentley’s, LMP’s and GT1’s.
Jamie’s Aston Martin DBR1 was a great purchase and will see plenty of action this year including the Targa Florio.
Jacks big Bentley was new to the track, joined by Mike’s Bentley and SlotIt Mercedes.
Macaulay’s Spirit Radical was a lovely smooth runner.
Terry’s black Audi LMP saw race action for the first time and went well.
T.J. and Jake borrowed club cars and both had good racing
Paul borrowed a Rover SD1 from Andy and enjoyed racing it
Brian raced his favourite, the Porsche 956/962 whilst Andy raced an often-seen-but-never-raced Aston Martin XJ220
.
The club BMW 320i’s saw action again, they’re going to get some mileage this year!
.

Another great nights racing, the newcomers are coming on in leaps and bounds and really enjoy racing each other in the specially created heats.
.
…enjoy the two videos!

Race report and results - 22nd January 2026 - Grand Prix & F1 followed by Saloons -
.
Twelve of us tonight and that’s with two regulars not able to attend…!
.
Grand Prix and F1
…Grand Prix

.
The smaller Grand Prix cars will race each other this year, Ed, Gav, Kev & Mike should have been joined by Paul’s Porsche 804, that was an oversight tonight.
As long as the cars in this class meet the width rules (7.5mm wide tyres, 53mm overall width across the tyres) they will race together.
.
A good mix of modified standard cars and cars built with resin cast bodyshells.
Ed & Paul with modified standard Cartrix cars were fairly close at the end.
In Open Class, Mike’s Mercedes W196 was too fast and consistent for Gav’s Lancia Ferrari D50.
Kev’s Mercedes W154 was the sole entrant in Prostock class.
.
…F1

.
The first Standard Class cars this year, Jack & Terry, had their own race for class win.
In fact it’s probably the first time in years that a pair of standard Scalextric F1’s have been raced.
.
NSR F1’s of both types seen tonight, the new 2022 version is a superb runner and looks far more stable than the shorter wheelbase 86/89 cars.  Less than four laps separated them at the end.
.
T.J. & Jake both raced cars in their own classes but still raced amongst other class cars.

.
Saloons

.
No small class cars tonight but a great mix of Saloons and Group 5’s, also a good mix of modified standard cars, Prostocks and Open Class cars.
.
I’ve started putting all Modified Class cars together, all Prostock Class cars together and all Open Class cars together otherwise the results sheets become too long and spread out.
At the end of the day all Saloons have the same limitations (tyre width) and overall car widths.
.
The club BMW 320i’s had another run tonight, they’re good race cars but we could do with some alternative cars rather than run these into the ground.
…any donations will be gratefully received, they will be setup ready to race in one class or another.
.
A trio of modified standard cars, Kev, Ed & Terry showing you don’t need an all-out pro car to have a good competitive car that is satisfying to race.
.
Seven Prostock cars, funnily enough all with SlotIt motor pods (although Chris started the evening with a Racer Nissan Skyline which broke the guide mount with a few seconds to go).
…Brian, Jack & Chris not far apart at the end of the night whilst Jake & Paul weren’t far behind them.
.
A couple of Open Class cars, Mike & Macaulay had a fairly close race for class win.
.
Another great nights racing, the newcomers are now regularly featuring amongst the more experienced racers in the final results, long may it continue.

.
…enjoy the two videos!
.
Just to add, TJ & the gang were away racing 1:1 scale cars this weekend, good luck guys!

Race report and results - 29th January 2026 - NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge 2026’ #1 followed by TV & Film cars -
.
Twelve of us tonight is starting to become a regular thing… with such a good spread of experience we’re seeing three groups that regularly race amongst each other which is good for everyone.
.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge 2026’ #1… plus other Sports cars

  • Four ‘Club Challenge’ entrants eligible tonight, Brian, Chris, Ed & Kev, raced each other.
  • The other seven raced a variety of Modified, Prostock and Open Class Sports cars split into two groups.
The Moslers seemed lacking in traction tonight, the tyres taking two races to get some proper grip.  This is understandable as the cars have been sat in the cupboard for the best part of three cold months.  As we’re not allowed to put any treatment on these tyres we just have to drive through the problem until the top layer of rubber is worn through.
  • Chris & Brian were very close after the first round, a couple of ‘offs’ for Brian put paid to catching Chris or Kev.  Ed did well again with a result only beaten by Jamie’s Mosler in the other group.
  • In the end Kev won comfortably from Chris who was comfortably ahead of Brian & Ed.
The main group of cars were the Sports cars racing separately from the ‘Club Challenge’ guys.
  • The quickest was Jamie with his bright orange (it’s ‘HIS’ colour apparently) Mosler and getting into the 5.8’s, he was super happy.
  • Macaulay and Jack finished a fraction of a lap apart overall, racing in different groups, Jack winning all his heats, Macaulay winning one of his.
  • The next three cars were also really close at the end, Jake, Paul & T.J.
Jake’s Fly Porsche was the big surprise, it’s not a prostock car, it’s just a basic one-piece chassis that’s well setup for racing.  He did well to finish ahead of Paul’s Racer Porsche 935 and T.J.’s NSR Audi, it took nearly a race for TJ to get the controller setting right…(a racers tip, write them settings down in a little book).

  • Terry raced his SlotIt Audi R8C well but it looks like it needs rear tyres with more grip.

TV & Film Cars …plus other Scalextric cars

  • With two new eligible cars, Jack & Jake joined the regulars with the Fast & Furious RX7 and Joker cars listed with other well known cars from film & screen.  They finished a couple of seconds apart overall, behind Ed’s Batmobile.
  • Ahead of them was Chris’s Bond Lotus and Kev’s huge ‘Bluesmobile’.
  • All five of these cars are Standard cars.
  • Two Modified cars, Macaulay’s Knightrider K.I.T.T. and Brian’s Dukes of Hazzard Dodge Charger (Chris said something about it needing a ramp to jump over)
  • The other four cars were Scalextric - Paul raced a race prepped club Ferrari which he enjoyed racing (I think he was surprised how nicely a basic Scaley car can go), T.J racing a shapely Pagani Zonda winning one heat to a round of applause, Jamie going much better than he expected with the Scaley Mclaren that Macaulay didn’t want to race (he wanted to race K.I.T.T.) and getting a better overall score than Macaulay’s Knight Rider car… and Terry won the first heat of the night to a round of applause and big cheer with his Scaley GT40 that handled like a pig before the racing but a quick swap for smaller diameter front tyres got the guide fully on the track and settled the car.
  • …Terry was also awarded the ‘50p Trophy’ for the week, well done.

.
Whilst starting to race the much slower TV & Film cars, Jamie said we should have raced them first but the race calendar was purposely set up like this.
In the end it was another great nights racing, the newcomers are quickly becoming regulars and slowly but surely bringing new cars with them and doing well.
.
…enjoy the two videos!

Next week is the first time the covers come off the Rally stages as it’s Targa Florio night, one car, all four tracks… it’s going to be a night of banter!
