Manx Slot Car Club 2025 Race results & reports etc.
#41

Race report and results - 8th May 2025 - Saloons followed by TV/Film cars
.
We’re enjoying a nice long spell of good weather, here’s hoping for a long hot summer like the one we had during Covid (but without the coughing).
.
A new visitor tonight, Kyle came along with Ed and said he enjoyed the evening’s light hearted banter and racing.
.
Five club members with an array of Saloons and TV/Film cars (plus a couple of car allowed to race)
.
Saloons

.
Three Back2Basics cars, one standard class car and a pair of modified class cars.
.
Brian borrowed a Scaley Opel V8 off Kev and liked it so much he’s bought one for himself.
.
Ed also had two cars on the track as Kyle borrowed a Ninco Mercedes whilst Ed raced his trusty black Ninco Opel Calibra.
.
Gav raced his SlotIt Opel and had a really good run in Blue lane.
.
Chris raced his trusty Honda Civic, with three really good runs he was the closest to Kev’s Audi RS5 which had a few ‘offs’ tonight but managed to make it up with a really good run in Blue lane.

.
TV/Film cars

.
A fun theme class, meant for Back2Basics cars but we allow other cars to race but they don’t collect car bonuses (see the results chart).
.
Ed’s raced his old Batmobile to top spot, we must take notice of how he does it, keep it in the slot and don’t go too fast to get maximum bonus laps…
.
Brian raced his Joker which is a nice little runner with lights ablaze.
.
Talking of nice little runners, Chris’s James Bond Lotus is a little belter, when you think back to what it was like originally, a set of decent tyres and this flies round.
.
Kev raced his Knight Rider KARR, the nemesis of KITT, a really good runner but needs to slow down a lot to catch Ed’s Batmobile…
.
The other two cars aren’t Back2Basics TV/Film cars, Gav’s Ferrari 308 and Kyle’s Ferrari F430 Saturday Scalextric Club car.
Gav’s Ferrari is in desperate need of rear grip and Kyle’s Ferrari was too easy to drive with the magnet but would fly off the track without a moments notice unless driven like a non-mag car.

.
Another enjoyable night of racing and looking forward to next week…

Race report and results - 15th May 2025 - Sports followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #4
.
A great turnout tonight for what turned into some great action not only for the guys racing but the watching marshals who thoroughly enjoyed the racing action seen at times.
.
Chris arrived bearing gifts - or burned cakes…more ‘high bake’ than burned and very tasty they were too, thanks Chris.
.
Mike also arrived bearing gifts of a different kind, a car load of 1/24th scale car kits, some of which may find their way onto the track as a Slot car some time in the future.
.
Sports

.
Four Standard Class, one Modified Class and two Open Class cars…and not a Mosler to be seen…that was until later in the evening when all the cars were NSR Moslers
.
Andy & Kev raced proxy cars, Andy’s Corvette L88 against Mike’s resin UOP DN4 in Open Class and Kev’s the sole Modified Class entry Porsche 908/3 on the new NSR ‘zero graining’ tyres which are probably the best tyres NSR have made since they last produced pre-Evo ultragrips.
.
Standard Class was busy with four drivers and four different manufacturers cars.  We’ve seen Gav and Ed’s Audi LMP’s often and these were joined by Chris’s Revo Merc and Brian’s Sideways McLaren with all four cars going well at times.  Brian’s McLaren was the car the others couldn’t catch.

.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #4

.
Mike forgot to bring his car so raced the club Mosler setup by Brian which is a nice running car.
.
Whilst on the subject of forgetting…somebody forgot to reduce the track voltage down to 11v which explains the reason why the cars seemed a little too lively and the controller settings seemed different and we saw more deslots…not only that but somebody also forgot to start the video recording of the Mosler races until Heat #4

.
Yet another enjoyable night of racing and looking forward to next week which is…

Race report and results - 29th May 2025 - Club Revoslots followed by F1
.
Not only did we have a great turnout tonight but three visitors from Switzerland who race Slot cars on a few different tracks back home, for what turned into the best night's racing we’ve had for ages.
.
Lot’s of talking took place tonight, Pippo, Michael & Marcel tried some of our cars and even one of the Rally stages, it’s fair to say they enjoyed all the cars they drove.
.
Club Revoslots with club controllers

.
Our three visitors raced each other all night and it was nice to enjoy watching their private competition between themselves.  They were impressed with the Revoslots and the fact they were standard cars with no aftermarket parts on them.
.
The rest of us also enjoyed good racing, the cars seemed to have more grip than normal, maybe that was down to the track being warm.

.
F1

.
Four standard NSR F1’s and two Open Class F1’s were raced by our club members.
Andy & Kev with the quick Open Class cars and Brian, Chris, Ed & Gav racing Standard Class NSR’s.
.
As is usual, the NSR F1’s are very good race cars with Brian doing a great job of stopping the others catching his car.  Chris and Ed weren’t far apart at the end, Chris with a great run in Blue lane was the biggest difference between them.
Gav had a best run in Red lane and did his best to keep up with Ed.
.
Kev’s ‘Black Bull’ got a run out tonight, not often raced these days but Andy made him work hard for the win with his quick Falcon powered Ligier and the overall result wasn’t decided until Kev finished his last lap in the final heat of the night.
.
…meanwhile, our three visitors raced three different cars, a Club F1 (Allslot) and two borrowed cars, one also an Allslot and the other a Policar Ferrari.
They each raced all three cars with the overall lead between the three changing through the evening…’it was a challenge’ was the remark at the end.

.
A brilliant night’s racing at the end of which I was getting hoarse, losing my voice a little…

Race report and results - 5th June 2025 - Group 5 followed by Small Sports/Saloons
.
TT week is never good for big turnouts, tonight was no exception but the four of us had some great racing and some hilarious moments.
.
Pre-race testing saw plenty of choice, the noisiest of which were a couple of Kev ‘s B2B based cars…a change to NSR pinions should dramatically improve matters.
Andy was testing a set of NSR Z-grips (zero graining) and despite doing about 300 laps on them to polish them like Kev did a few weeks ago, was never happy…the car was transformed with a pair of Alan Mann Ultragrips.
Brian & Ed tested a few cars too whilst the computer was set up for tonight's racing.
.
Group 5

.
It’s rare that we see a new car in this class, we’ve all got our tried & tested favourites…tonight was all tried & tested favourites.
.
Brian’s Capri used to be good for 6.2 second laps, once those tyres wear away and your old favourite compound is out of production forever (NSR Ultragrips) you end up with sub-par performance as he’s found out.  Half way through his first race the back end of the Capri was fishtailing.  Andy kindly lent him a pair of wheels/tyres to try (I think they were the new Zero graining tyres aka Z-grips) but he wasn’t happy with those then tried a pair of Alan Mann Ultragrips (pre-evo compound) and they are superb tyres, the Capri was back with a BANG!...6.1’s again!
.
Andy, Ed & Kev had no such issues, their cars running to expectations.  I have to say Ed’s got that Porsche going pretty handy.
It was good to see Kev’s BMW giving Andy’s Capri a good run in the last heat although the Capri was in the slow (Red) lane the cars were evenly matched.

.
Small Sports/Saloons

.
A pair of Back2Basics Jaguar XK120’s (Ed & Kev) and a pair of Open Class cars…well we had major issues…and major laughs with this lot!!!
.
Ed was complaining of a bent axle as the Jag was hobbling around the track…miffed pit crew had a look at it and found nothing obvious…only to find a chunk of rubber stuck to a tyre that hadn’t been cleaned off before the racing started!.
.
Andy’s AC Cobra shot off at warp factor 9 into the corner at the end of the main straight as he was fiddling around trying to get his controller and voltage box in place.  The end result was a smashed windscreen and a driverless car…the most painful part was the aftermath banter…the funny side wore thin after a while…
…that was, until Ed suddenly announced the reason the Jag was slowing down during the races was the expansion of the axle due to excess heat at high speeds…Andy nearly had an aneurysm he was laughing so hard…I’ve never seen Ed so red in the face he was laughing so hard too
.
Brian eventually found top gear with the Ferrari, it’s capable of a 6.6 second lap…honest!
.
Kev was racing a proxy Jaguar XK120 with a no-pod one-piece chassis and this time a new untried motor, Scaleauto 20k S-can…and was more than impressed with it’s performance…another is now on order.

.
A brilliant night’s racing despite the low turnout
