Race results and report - 9th November 2024 - NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #9 followed by Grand Prix & Prewing F1
.
What an amazing turnout we had tonight, ten club members and past club members.
.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ - with two of us without ‘official’ cars. Brian H borrowed Geoff’s standard NSR Mosler and Paul raced the club's NSR Mosler.
.
These cars always give fast close racing, the tyres are now two years old and give tremendous grip on the painted track. The final heat with Brian L, Andy & Kev was particularly quick with all three drivers getting their Mosler round under 6 seconds and all finishing on the same lap.
.
The closest finish was Heat #4 as Geoff & Kev crossed the finish line inches apart, Geoff’s Mosler just ahead.
.
Other heat winners tonight were Brian H in Heat #1, Chris in Heat #2, Andy in Heat #3, Brian H in Heat #5, Brian L in Heat #6, Kev in Heat #7, Brian H in Heat #8, Mike B in Heat #9 and Kev in Heat #10.
.
Let’s not forget there is an official NSR Mosler ‘Club Championship’ for this event for those who haven’t won it before (previous championship winners aren’t eligible to enter).
With only nine of the ten rounds scores counting for the championship Mike B, Chris & Ed can still win…it’s all down to who turns up on the 12th of December for the finale…
.
As far as the ‘Unofficial Non-Championship’ is concerned, Brian L is the only one of us to have run all nine rounds so far and will be dropping his worst score.
.
Grand Prix & Prewing F1
.
Chris couldn’t stay to race these cars with an early shift in the morning but we had cars in four different classes tonight, Ed’s Standard Class - ‘out of the box’ - Lancia, three Modified Class GP cars, three Open Class GP cars and two Open Class Prewing F1’s.
.
This class has the most complicated rules mainly due to us sticking with CSCRA guidelines which means the Grand Prix cars have three different tyre and overall width limits as outlined below (and in the new width limit sheet uploaded to the clubs Facebook page).
.
To go from the fast Moslers to the slowest class in one evening takes a few practice laps to get used to these cars.
.
There’s no doubt each of us have a favourite car, some of us have a few ‘not so favourites’ in their pit box too.
.
The #1 most important thing is PREPARATION…the umpteen hours that went into getting Brian L’s Lancia Ferrari D50 ready for race night resulted in the ‘going nowhere fast’ song we all heard as Brian nailed the throttle!
…the trusty Vanwall quickly replaced the Lancia…this time the ‘going somewhere but horribly noisy’ song screeching like a banshee from the Vanwall…’it’s the supercharger, honest’.
.
The three Open Class GP cars were pretty well matched, Brian H managing quick lap times with the Merc W196 but didn’t have the consistency as Mike B with a similar car.
Gav’s Lancia Ferrari D50 is much more consistent with the mild Predator motor and he finished not far behind Brian H.
.
Three Modified Class GP cars were headed by Kev’s Mercedes W165 with Geoff’s consistent Talbot Lago doing well in 2nd place and Brian L’s Vanwall saving face after the disastrous first heat, beating Geoff’s combined score in the other two lanes.
.
Two cars in Open Prewing F1, Andy’s Ferrari 156 which is two laps per heat quicker than the better Grand Prix cars and Paul’s Porsche which has tyres and track too wide for the Grand Prix class.
.
…and finally to Ed’s ‘out of the box’ Cartrix Lancia D50…it was actually a coffin judging by the car wreck presented to Kev to ‘fix’
…unbelievably, out of the fire rises the phoenix to finish in overall 4th place a mere fifth of a lap behind Geoff’s Talbot Lago…nice one Ed.
