MSCC 2024 Race results & reports etc.
#71

Race results and report - 9th November 2024 - NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #9 followed by Grand Prix & Prewing F1
.
What an amazing turnout we had tonight, ten club members and past club members.
.
NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ - with two of us without ‘official’ cars.  Brian H borrowed Geoff’s standard NSR Mosler and Paul raced the club's NSR Mosler.

.
These cars always give fast close racing, the tyres are now two years old and give tremendous grip on the painted track.  The final heat with Brian L, Andy & Kev was particularly quick with all three drivers getting their Mosler round under 6 seconds and all finishing on the same lap.
.
The closest finish was Heat #4 as Geoff & Kev crossed the finish line inches apart, Geoff’s Mosler just ahead.
.
Other heat winners tonight were Brian H in Heat #1, Chris in Heat #2, Andy in Heat #3, Brian H in Heat #5, Brian L in Heat #6, Kev in Heat #7, Brian H in Heat #8, Mike B in Heat #9 and Kev in Heat #10.

.
Let’s not forget there is an official NSR Mosler ‘Club Championship’ for this event for those who haven’t won it before (previous championship winners aren’t eligible to enter).
With only nine of the ten rounds scores counting for the championship Mike B, Chris & Ed can still win…it’s all down to who turns up on the 12th of December for the finale…
.
As far as the ‘Unofficial Non-Championship’ is concerned, Brian L is the only one of us to have run all nine rounds so far and will be dropping his worst score.

.
Grand Prix & Prewing F1

.
Chris couldn’t stay to race these cars with an early shift in the morning but we had cars in four different classes tonight, Ed’s Standard Class - ‘out of the box’ - Lancia, three Modified Class GP cars, three Open Class GP cars and two Open Class Prewing F1’s.
.
This class has the most complicated rules mainly due to us sticking with CSCRA guidelines which means the Grand Prix cars have three different tyre and overall width limits as outlined below (and in the new width limit sheet uploaded to the clubs Facebook page).
  • 1934-51 Grand Prix cars - 7mm wide tyres, 53mm overall width, 2mm ground clearance
  • 1934-51 Voiturettes - 7mm wide tyres, 50mm overall width, 2mm ground clearance
  • 1952-1960 Grand Prix cars - 7.5mm wide tyres, 50mm overall width, 2mm ground clearance
  • 1961-1965 Prewing F1 cars - 9mm wide tyres, 54mm overall width, 2mm ground clearance
N.B. It’s not the end of the world if a Grand Prix car has wide tyres or wide track, it will be listed with the Prewing cars.
.
To go from the fast Moslers to the slowest class in one evening takes a few practice laps to get used to these cars.
.
There’s no doubt each of us have a favourite car, some of us have a few ‘not so favourites’ in their pit box too.
.
The #1 most important thing is PREPARATION…the umpteen hours that went into getting Brian L’s Lancia Ferrari D50 ready for race night resulted in the ‘going nowhere fast’ song we all heard as Brian nailed the throttle!
…the trusty Vanwall quickly replaced the Lancia…this time the ‘going somewhere but horribly noisy’ song screeching like a banshee from the Vanwall…’it’s the supercharger, honest’.
.
The three Open Class GP cars were pretty well matched, Brian H managing quick lap times with the Merc W196 but didn’t have the consistency as Mike B with a similar car.
Gav’s Lancia Ferrari D50 is much more consistent with the mild Predator motor and he finished not far behind Brian H.
.
Three Modified Class GP cars were headed by Kev’s Mercedes W165 with Geoff’s consistent Talbot Lago doing well in 2nd place and Brian L’s Vanwall saving face after the disastrous first heat, beating Geoff’s combined score in the other two lanes.
.
Two cars in Open Prewing F1, Andy’s Ferrari 156 which is two laps per heat quicker than the better Grand Prix cars and Paul’s Porsche which has tyres and track too wide for the Grand Prix class.
.
…and finally to Ed’s ‘out of the box’ Cartrix Lancia D50…it was actually a coffin judging by the car wreck presented to Kev to ‘fix’
…unbelievably, out of the fire rises the phoenix to finish in overall 4th place a mere fifth of a lap behind Geoff’s Talbot Lago…nice one Ed.

Race results and report - 21st November 2024 - Club Ford GT40 followed by Small Sports/Saloons
.
Another great turnout tonight, even with the sudden icy/snowy spell plus the ‘lurgy’ infecting folk, we still had eight racers attend.
.
Club GT40

.
Some close racing (and racing ‘incidents’ ) as expected with the top three drivers finishing on the same lap.
The rest of the drivers except Matthew who’s only been racing a couple of weeks, finished a small number of laps apart…
…and Brian L winning with club cars for the first time!

.
Small Sports/Saloons

.
Three different classes, one big smash, one car-swap and a ruddy great Dodge Viper on skinny tyres (which goes rather well actually).
.
A really good mix of cars and a good spread of racing, the return of Paul’s Ferrari 365P2, the demise of Geoff’s XK120 Jag in a race stopping multi car smash which broke the steel chassis on the Jag!, heat wins for Matthew plus the ‘50p Trophy’ presented to him at the end of the evening for outstanding performance on the evening.
.
Chris’s yellow Alpine was a bit wayward tonight for some reason, it actually looked like it had too much grip but still managed the odd really fast lap and was one of four cars to get into the 6+ second hot laps along with Andy’s AC Cobra, Kev’s Chaparral and Brian L’s Ferrari 365P2.
.
The upside of Geoff’s early disaster was he won Standard Class with his trusty Ninco XK120 usually seen in Slot Rally.
.
Paul seemed to enjoy bringing the Ferrari 365P2 out of retirement, since his return it’s noticeable that his cars are nice smooth runners and not too wayward like some cars we see on track.

.
The Club Christmas Dinner draws closer, please ensure you get your menu choices (and payment) to Andy.
Whilst on the subject of Christmas, December is just around the corner and Christmas jumpers are traditionally mandatory for those four weeks so get them out of the drawer and let them air for a week.

Race results and report - 28th November 2024 - F1 followed by Group 5
.
‘The Lurgy’ hit again this week, this time different club members, but 7 of us still got down for a great nights racing.
.
F1

.
Straight into the fastest overall class we race.  NSR F1’s normally dominate this class and why not as they go great with nothing but a tyre-true.
Tonight however we saw a couple of SCX cars (Kev’s Modified Class Minardi and Gav’s Standard Class Ferrari), a Paul’s Cartrix Porsche and the return of Andy’s Open Class Fly Ligier on a Eurosport chassis which was flying round (fly-ing…yeah yeah I’ll get my coat ).
.
Gav, Paul & Geoff raced each other three times, what started as a mix of three different class cars with Geoff deciding to race his Policar Ferrari ended half way through Heat #1 as his car lost a wire from the guide…the restart saw Geoff racing the rest of the night with his NSR F1.
.
The other two NSR F1’s of Mike & Brian did go well, Brian’s in particular getting into the 5.9 second laps I think for the first time, he thinks the kit tyres are finally ‘coming in’.  Mike’s F1 going a lap quicker from Red to Yellow to Blue lanes.
.
Paul’s Porsche 804 could possibly have won a heat or two had Geoff’s Ferrari not broken down.
.
Kev & Andy had two quick races, Kev really enjoying racing an old SCX and it’s probably not the last time we’ll see Andy’s Ligier as he really enjoyed racing it.

.
Group 5

.
We rarely see a major change in this class as Racer Sideways cars have been the most popular cars for years but tonight Paul broke the mold with a Carrera VW Kafer Beetle as a ‘B2B’ car which made a pleasant change.
.
Mike raced his tried & tested Open Class Mack chassied Capri and managed low 6.1 second laps.
.
A pair of Modified Class Racer Capri’s with SlotIt sidewinder pods and NSR Shark 30 motors, Andy’s knocking on the door of 5.8 second laps, Gav’s looking too lightweight as the front end was lifting under acceleration and caused him to struggle with consistency.
.
The other three cars were Racer Sideways BMW’s, Kev’s M1 and a pair of 320i of Geoff & Brian.
Geoff’s BMW was THE car to catch early in 2024 but Kev’s M1 was sorted in the Spring and has managed to keep ahead…for the time being.
.
Brian’s relatively new 320i is still not ‘there’ yet but he’s working on it…

.
The Club Christmas Dinner draws closer, please ensure you get your menu choices (and payment) to Andy.
Whilst on the subject of Christmas, December is here and Christmas jumpers are traditionally mandatory for those four weeks so get them out of the drawer and let them air for a week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Saturday between 10am and 12 noon we’re opening the club for a Saturday Scalextric Club for ‘out of the box’ racing with basic cars (think Scalextric, SCX, Fly Slot cars).
We’ve spent a few hours testing this Saturday and the manufacturers fitted magnet is allowed but no car mods or upgrades are allowed.
No doubt we’ll see how it goes and possibly make changes if deemed necessary.
Next week is Le Manx Classic followed by Le Manx (Group C/LMP )
Race results and report - 12 December 2024 - Saloon followed by NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ #10 (the championship decider)
.
Six of us turned up tonight to decide the winner of the NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ Championship…three drivers were in the running (Mike B, Chris & Ed).
.
First off, Saloons…and what turned out to be one of the most enjoyable nights of Saloon racing I can remember.
.
The super fast racing specials were left in their boxes tonight, instead we had a couple of Back 2 Basics Class cars (Ed’s Opel and Kev’s Camaro), Brian’s Standard Class Opel, Chris’s Modified Class Honda Civic and a couple of Open Class cars, Andy’s Alfa and Mike’s Mustang.
Brian’s SlotIt Opel nicked overall best score of the night on the last lap but four class winners meant a good night for all.
.
…and now the NSR Mosler ‘Club Challenge’ Championship decider
.
The three drivers in the running turned up and raced each other all night.
…Mike was setting the fastest laps but Chris was the most consistent, Ed was doing his best to stay in touch but in the end a few too many deslots for Chris meant Mike ended up on top spot.
.
The other three guys in the ‘Unofficial Non-Championship’ saved the closest race to last, all three cars blasting round to wrap up an interesting race series.
.
So who’s this years Champion?...counting a maximum of 9 results:
 - Mike B got 38 points
 - Chris got 33 points
 - Ed got 31 points
 - Gav got 20 points
Championship standings
.
This series is also on next years race calendar but reduced to nine rounds to allow for a new addition namely the ‘Battle of Britain’ theme night and will no longer be sponsored by Andy but will carry on as we’ve run it as the cars go so well.
.
—----------------------
This Saturday the club will be open all day as we are hosting the final round of the ‘Goodwood Revival Proxy’ as reported all year on SlotRacer Forum.
—----------------------
Next week is the Christmas ‘Turkey Targa’ (aka Targa Florio) on all the club tracks, one car all night, check the club Facebook for a list of eligible cars https://www.facebook.com/groups/manx.slo...3134812184
