MSCC 2024 Race results & reports etc.
#51

Race results and report - 22nd August 2024 - Club Revoslots followed by Saloons
.
A wet and disrupted Manx Grand Prix didn’t have any effect on what turned into a memorable nights racing, Brian said “...some of the best we have seen”
.
Club Revoslots

.
Very evenly matched cars made for enjoyable racing with Heat #5 the best to watch as Andy & Kev in the Red and Blue lanes were a couple of cars lengths apart for all but two laps in the four minute heats.
.
Andy drove well to finish a couple of laps ahead of Brian with Kev a few seconds behind.
Ed’s best race was the Marcos in the Yellow lane and a hot lap only a couple of tenths behind Brian.

.
Saloons

.
Standard ‘Back 2 Basics’ Class:
Ed’s Ninco Opel Calibra
Standard Class:
Brian’s SlotIt Opel Calibra
Modified Class:
Kev’s Monogram Ford Galaxie 500 on a 3D chassis
Open Class:
Andy’s SlotIt Opel Calibra on a brass chassis
.
Four different classes so everyone was a winner tonight.
.
Again some great racing was seen and enjoyed with Heat #2 the best to watch as Kev’s land barge Ford Galaxie 500 raced Andy’s Opel Calibra side-by-side for many laps, the two cars even closer than the earlier Revo race.
Both cars finishing on the same lap overall at the end of the night.
.
Brian’s Opel Calibra is at long last competitive…taking advice on fixing ballast into his car has paid off.
.
Ed’s Opel Calibra did nearly 200 laps in practice, he always practises in the Red lane and often struggles during the racing in the easier Blue lane but tonight had his best race in that lane.

Race results and report - 29th August 2024 - NSR Mosler 'Club Challenge' #7 followed by Sports

.
A good turnout tonight, two ‘Club Challenge’ championship drivers (Ed & Mike B) and four ‘non-championship’ drivers (Andy, Brian, Geoff & Kev).
.
The track voltage was reduced to 11V which does slow the cars down a little but high speed deslots are dramatically reduced.
.
It was great to see Geoff’s Mosler back in action for the first time since early March, he can drive that car as fast as anyone…but can he keep it in the slot?
.
Brian’s nemesis is Red lane, could he finally put the previous six challenges behind him on that lane…the answer was sadly no…but his car was a flying machine in Blue and Yellow lanes and had a couple of storming races with Andy.  Both drivers managed 6.0 second hot laps.
.
Geoff’s Mosler was the only other car besides Kev’s to get under 6 seconds, Kev’s sticker bomb car even managed one lap under 5.9 seconds and thought the cars were a little slow tonight as Andy was comfortably quicker last time out in ‘Challenge #6’ a few weeks ago.
.
The ‘non-championship’ results were closer than the last time out with these cars and would have been much closer if Geoff’s ‘Clarion’ car had stayed in the slot more often.
.
Of the two challenge championship racers, Mike was nursing a split motor pod but still managed to finish ahead of Ed’s dayglo orange car.  Ed’s 6.32 second hot lap was the fastest of these two cars tonight, he goes best when he’s ‘in the mix’ right behind another car but calms down a bit when there’s no rabbit to chase.
.
As far as the club challenge championships are concerned, Mike B now leads from Ed with Chris losing the lead to 3rd place as he wasn’t able to attend tonight.
Gav has unfortunately been sidelined for a while and Mike H said he should get down some time soon.
The non-championship table hasn’t changed, Kev leads from Andy with Brian 3rd and Geoff having missed four rounds back in 4th place.

.
With the track back at 12V, nobody wanted to race another Mosler after the earlier event so it was a pleasant change to see a good mix of cars:
Andy’s new little Gulf Cobra (but it packs a punch, or is that a bite?)
Geoff’s gold leaf (honest…not gold paint) SlotIt Lola LMP
Kev’s Thunderslot Mclaren (the driver must have a crick in his neck looking backwards all night…MIND THAT CAR!)
Mike B’s (borrowed from Andy as he thought it was Club Revolsots tonight) NSR AMG GT3 (it’s a belter and goes great! )
Brian’s bright yellow NSR Porsche 997 GT3, resurrected from the dead pile (goes really nicely too)
Ed’s recently returned from the GT Sports proxy - Ninco Mercedes CLK GTR
Ed’s ‘Back 2 Basics’ Ninco Merc went well in Yellow and Blue lanes, OK he wasn’t actually racing anyone tonight but he was very consistent with it.
.
Geoff’s Lola is quick and difficult to get away from, especially coming out of corners as he’s such an aggressive driver you’re under pressure to get a move-on.  “I’m pretty good in Red lane” says he…and was right as it was his best lane.
.
Brian’s yellow Porsche “It’s a 911”...”no, it’s actually a 997 GT3”, he’s spent time getting this back on the road and really enjoys driving it, he too going best in Red lane.
.
Mike B’s borrowed NSR Merc GT3 seemed to improve after each heat, the tyres polishing nicely.  He really enjoyed racing it and with a bit more time would have gone a bit faster.  Another driver going best in Red lane!
.
Kev’s Thunderslot Mclaren went well as it seems to do each time it gets raced.  The driver's head spins around (probably a good thing he doesn’t see trouble coming), really got a shift on in Blue lane (his favoured lane).
.
Andy’s Gulf AC Cobra with a brass sidewinder chassis and Falcon lite motor (25k as opposed to the full fat 47k version) was a joy to watch in action against the bigger (and not really any faster to be honest) GT1 and GT3 cars.
.
With Ed winning ‘B2B’ Standard Class, Geoff winning Standard Class, Kev winning Modified Class and Andy winning Open Class it was the end of another great night's racing.

Next week is Targa Florio night, one car…three Rally stages + three rounds of circuit racing.  Cars allowed must have raced in a Targa Florio before 1973 (there’s a list of cars on the clubs Facebook page and on both forums).

Race results and report - 12th September 2024 - Grand Prix & Prewing F1 followed by Small Sports/Saloons
.
Racing these two classes was always going to be a relatively slow night as these are the two slowest classes overall (ignoring TV/Film cars) but great racing was still enjoyed and watched.
.
Grand Prix & Prewing F1

.
Four classes were represented tonight:
  • Andy’s Ferrari 156 in Open Prewing F1 Class
  • Mike B’s Mercedes W196 in Open Grand Prix Class
  • Kev’s Mercedes W165 in Modified Grand Prix Class
  • Brian & Ed racing Cartrix Lancia/ Lancia Ferrari D50’s in Standard (B2B) Class
The best race was the last heat with Brian, Ed & Mike B having a yellow flag half way through as Brian’s Lancia Ferrari threw a guide braid…swapped for his trusty Vanwall and race commenced…that Ed won with his ‘re-built-from-a-box-of-scrap’ Lancia D50.

.
Small Sports/Saloons

.
Small Saloons seem popular recently, only one Small Sports tonight as the rest were hard-tops.
.
Standard Class has never been popular in Small Sports/Saloons but thanks to Revoslot there’s a range of cars that are actually really competitive.
Kev & Brian racing Alfa GTAm’s, Kev’s fully sorted, Brian’s is getting better as he’s taking on board things to do to make it go better.
.
Mike’s 3D Moggy Racer is welcome every day of the week in this class and sat somewhere between Brian’s Alfa and Ed’s Metro in overall performance.  Heat #5 against Ed’s Metro saw the Moggy win comfortably.
.
Open Class was a bit of a mismatch, Andy’s AC Cobra against Ed’s Metro…Andy’s Cobra has gone great since it first hit the track a few weeks ago, unfortunately Ed’s Metro had no chance but he gave it his best shot.

Next week is Club BMW 320i Group 5 followed by Classic F1 & F1…lap times will be down considerably on this weeks racing
