hi Guys
as a winter project i would like to try my hand at routing a wood track to replace my current Scalextric sport layout
my question is :-
where do i get the lexan strip to create compound curves
i know Greg Gaub supplies these strips , but with current across pond shipping prices , i was wondering if a similar product is available in the UK
I have tried trawling the internet , but must not be inputting the correct search criteria
i am happy to buy second hand if someone has this strip and no longer intends to use
or a link to the product would be great
thankyou in advance
Kev

Lexan is a trade name...for Polycarbonate, try a double glazing company or kitchen fitters.

I'm not sure if there are enough people making routed tracks in the UK for anybody to make a similar piece of kit.
The material itself isn't hard to get hold of, the difficulty is in drilling all the holes that you need to pin it to the mdf. You'd need a pillar drill for that.
I wonder if 20mm blue MDPE water pipe might be worth an experiment. That wouldn't be quite so critical on the accuracy of the drilling. Or perhaps even hose pipe?

MDPE would be much more sturdy than hosepipe

I have also used flexible drywall bead (normally used for arched doorways).
It works as long as you screw it down. You do have to fill the holes later, which is also true of the lexan strip.

Of course. Hose pipe would much more flexible but would require more nails or panel pins. But if you wanted a tight and twisty rally track...
MDPE is a lot sturdier, it would require less nails, and it would be less prone to being distorted by a nail driven in too hard.

I still get orders from the UK and EU. Shipping is a killer, though.
