Lexan bodies....I still love em !!
#1

Hello Folks, While most of my building/racing over the last 10+ years has been with "hardbody" cars, I still Love the "clear" body cars, as these were the ones I built the most during the 60's/70's. While the 1/24 commercial cars eventually morphed into "speed at all cost wedges", (most not at all realistic, nor well painted) the 1/32 club scene generally required some decently turned out scale (ish) bodies.

There were some really great manufacturers (most notably Lancer) turning out literally hundreds of different models, all well detailed and well proportioned. Lancer made bodies in HO, 1/32, and 1/24 scale, and when well painted/detailed they could be made to look gorgeous. More recently, Truescale did some repops of some of the nicer molds from days gone by, and these can also be made to look equally as wonderful. On the other side, there were some truly horrific efforts by a number of manufacturers and these no doubt did not help the "clear" body reputation.

Done well, they can look great, and they sure help the car to handle well... [Image: wink.png]

Below are a couple of "clear" 1/32 cars that I have done...

Cheers

First up is a Watson roadster, (Jim Rathman livery) done by Ej's hobbies (I have posted this somewhere here before).....it was a complete kit including body/chassis/motor, etc. etc., but I did build a new chassis, and changed the wheels/inserts.

Next is a Lola T163 (Chuck Parson's Simoniz CanAm car) from Truescale....decals from Pattos'

And last a March 717, also from Truescale.......

And a chassis shot of the March, ( I didn't have the inserts in at this stage).....a similar chassis sits under the Lola

Hi Steve, The motor is a ProSlot PS4000.....one  of their "Euro" series of motors, which fit motor mounts designed for "FC"/"S" can motors.
ProSlot (Dan Debella) has been around for decades providing motors and motor bits for commercial racers, and the "Euro" series began development in late 2008.
While some of the "Euro" range are absolutely fine for 1/32 circuit racing, some (The Velociraptors) are designed for drag racing, and are not suitable for going round and round.!!

Cheers

Hi Chris,
what sort of rpm is this motor rated at ? What would be the pros/cons of this vs an 'S'-can motor  of similar rpm rating on Scalextric Sport digital ?

No no no Chris, you're doing it all wrong.

Proper blobs are done in this way. Get some kitchen scissors and cut roughly along the lines, making sure at least 50% are cut crooked. Use an old brush and slap on some Humbrol, making sure it's not too even. Fix any spoilers on crooked and make sure that lots of glue gets on the screen. Finally, stick a driver to the motor and only paint half of it so it looks like a proper 60's job. Make sure any paint lines are crooked too.

Like this.

I did this for Bordo next week and actually wanted to have something that was like the crap I used to produce when I were a lad! Saves having to worry about the concours .

Bigsmile ....but there is no second!

The December meeting only has a cup for the winner of each class rather than down to tenth like it is in June. Four up for grabs for racing this year. 24th scale classic, 32nd scale classic, 32nd scale modern RTRs and this year JOUEF!!!!! Should be fun.
