What's in the 2024 Scalextric Catalogue?
#11

For me as a rallyfan the Rallye Monte Carlo Kankkunen Escort WRC, VW Golf and Ford Anglia are very welcome.
I hope the windscreen of the Anglia is not as high as shown in the picture.

Great to see the Anglia and the Golf. I might wait until we get some rally liveries though.

As always, I missed one…

This Jaguar XJ-S finished 24th in the 1986 Bathurst 1000. Rather outclassed by newer machinery, entrant John Goss and team mate Bob Muir gave it their best. Nice livery - and this one is due very soon, RRP £49.99.

Thanks for your input, Woodcote.   Thumbup

I'm definitely interested in the Anglebox, but will hold-off in expectation of a rally livery or two - unless the car shown here starts being sold cheaply enough on our favourite auction site to justify me doing a rally repaint.  As it's FF- motored, it will fit nicely in one of my categories.
I think I went public a couple of times with my request for a Scalextric Anglia.

Best regards,
Stuart.

Noo Yoik Taxi interests me, scale width just over 60mm and would be a perfect TV/Film car for our new fun class.

Bigsmile Not a big release but to see some sets and cars for just about every taste is good.

The new wireless controller/spark setup might be a good thing for unleashing kids and reducing tracks being pulled when the excitement goes up while racing.  Rofl

Checkeredflag It may also provide a simple way to wire up the spark to a c7042 to get wireless controllers for that. If I could get it to work then I'd be able to get back to some of the other RMS I have sitting unused. Wireless should be in every set these days. Perhaps a first step is here!

Thank you Andy for another excellent introduction to the 2024 Scalextric range Thumbup

As a collector of many Historic race cars the Ford Anglia is very welcome indeed, thank you Hornby Scalextric!
So many different options available for this one,  and not just race liveries.  Very much looking forward to this.

The VW Golf GTI is surely a good idea,  it really did define its era.  It will make a super Saloon car racer ( as we called them, before Touring cars became the norm), and its a definite one for me.

The Checker Cab is great!  Who would ever have thought Scalextric would be treating us to a range of models of this size.
I love Kevan's idea of a Club fun class for these big beasts, standard running gear and bad handling and all.....

Two more nice Sierra Cosworths is good, and a second Land Rover already.  Please can we have one with a Harvey Frost recovery crane on the back, thank you  Sun

As for the new release format.....   not really sure.  It did, in all honesty, feel a bit lacklustre yesterday.   And if the 2024 Hornby Scalextric catalogue is only these initial releases,  with a second insert or similar,  to follow,  that will look and feel a bit odd.    At least if it's all done in early January you get everything,  and all year, to look forward to.   That said I do remember posting on the Forum this time last year that if the Thunderbird FAB 1 was going to be potentially early January 2024, did that really mean it should be a 2023 release!?  They can't win, can they!   Bigsmile

Either way, I will definitely be purchasing some of yesterday's releases,  and like Woodcote, already looking forward to the May set of releases with interest and excitement.
Ghostbusters  Ecto 1.  Definitely,  maybe,  unlikely,  no bloody hope!

Apart from not being able to get that Taxi theme out of my head (not a bad earworm, by any means), I feel like Pip... that things have moved on already - whereas a full catalogue usually keeps me excited for the rest of the week.

That said, under the new format, the Mirage, FAB1 and half a dozen unreleased reliveries (including one of the Pumas) would probably have been kept under wraps and unveiled yesterday as 2024 Q1 cars - together with the Q2 (Spring / Summer) offerings. That would have had much more impact. I'm sure the catalogue situation will be resolved over the next few months - it does remain extremely important to many collectors.

The Anglia, Golf, Batmobile and Checker cab all hit the spot for me - and that bodes well for what's still in the bag for the summer onwards.

I said I'd post some more images of the Hot Laps app, so here they are...

The graphics look great...

... and if the basic functionality is up there with Lap Tracker and LapTrax, it'll be awesome!

The phone cradle is a very sensible idea, as positioning the phone and calibrating the triggering of laps is the most difficult part of the process with the other apps - especially with two lanes. With one car on a rally stage, it's much easier. I'll see if I can get more info or even a trial copy of the app.

The theme shows how Scalextric have embraced the new rally range. With the new models selling so well - and the Escort re-liveries always so popular - my hunch is that new rally car tooling can't be too far off, in addition to the rally possibilities on the Golf and Anglia. I can't find a Checker cab used as a rally car... although one did act as a press car to cover the 1968 Baja 1000.

Hello Andy,
Are there "sound effects" in the Hot-Laps App ? I find that the Spark Plug sounds are irritating and reducing the volume also reduces the ring-tone volume.
Am wondering if the new app will work with an existing Spark Plug?

Leo

Edit: Just noticed that there is another Spark Plug App - " Scalextric SparkPlug Formula E "

Edit: The Formula E version works OK with the first released Spark Plugs. The Formula E version strikes me as an adult version with the pre-set drivers being actual F-E drivers and the background sounds much better balanced. I think the sounds work on the Media setting rather than Ring Tone. (Original App has cartoon characters)
