Lotus ... through the ages... all scales
#1

I have been involved with slot cars since the 60's. Was not terribly involved in club racing until the nineties. Then when arriving in Europe, got involved with my passion of vintage slot cars.
Through all the period I have been a Ferraristi - even married an Italian Rofl , and as a result my collection has always been focused on the red tide.
A short while ago I suddenly woke up to the fact that I have collected an eclectic collection of Lotii. Thus this is not a complrehensive view of all Lotii , but it could become that with YOUR input, so please feel free to add all those I do not have as well as your version of Lotus.

SLot cars started for me in 63 with my first set - Scalextric GP 33 with a Ferrari 156 sharknose and the lotus 18/20, so this is where I will start.

Stirling with his famous Monaco win:

Scalextric versions - The more rare Lotus with swivel guide, and a modified and upgraded version done in Germany.

Then a Penelope Pitlane version I built:

Possibly the start of it all slot car wise - the Scalextric C54 Lotus 16

Possibly the earlest car I have (1-2-1 wise) is the Lotus 15 - this one by MMK. There are lots of versions out there however  ;)

Next on my list is the Lotus 19 by Strombecker: the 2 versions of single driver and twin rally type?  Not sure it ever rallied - did it?

the first pic is Jim Clark driving a 19

The Lotus 24 was the first of the world champ cars - a pic of Jim driving one and the various versions I have based on the Airfix version.

And then came the 25- the 2 versions I have are the lovely new 1/32nd Scalextric version and the old not fantastic 1/24th Revell version

Next in my collection is the wonderful Lotus 33 by Monogram - possibly one of the best cars from the 60's

The first real attack on the big bangers - the Lotus 30 and 40

1/32nd Protoslot 40 and Strombecker 30:

Cox 1/24th 30 and 40:

to be contd....

Continuing on  ...... Sun

After the 25 and 33 came the relatively disastrous 43, where Chapman tried the H16 BRM motor, which had 1 win and numerous non finishes.

I have a version made by a friend of the Betta/Classic fibreglass version originally designed when the 43 was current!!

Then came the wonderful 49, which was a maifestation of the tie up between Ford and Chapman, who had realised he needed a far better motor supplier. Along can the cosworth!! Th 49 had many variants from the 49 to the 49c.

The versions I have are the 49 by Scalextric and the 49B by Betta/classic (also made by scalextric)

The USA winning H16 engine from the the Lotus 43 was kept in Caistor Castle motor museum. LINK
Presumably still there along with one of the surviving BRM P83s although I haven't been there for many years.
