MSCC - 2022 Race results & reports etc.
#21

Race reports - 21st July - GP & Prewing F1 followed by  Classic F1 & F1

Grand Prix

A second chance to run the same cars as last weeks Mike Dove Memorial Classic Race.

Four Grand Prix cars, three we’ve seen before and one new to the track car. Despite being notoriously difficult to ‘race’ these cars are great fun.
A slight change to the heat lengths with the Grand Prix heats running at 200 seconds.

Brian’s Vanwall and Geoff’s Talbot suffered badly in last weeks endurance races, a new set of tyres transformed Brian’s Vanwall, setting the fastest lane score in the Yellow lane…whilst Geoff’s Talbot carried on the suffering as tyres started wandering across the wheels but matching Kev’s Red & Yellow lane scores to within fractions of a second.

Kev’s newly painted and re-chassied Merc W165 absolutely flew round the Blue lane but really struggled in the Red lane.

Mike’s Merc W196 floats on the chassis and flew round in the Red lane setting the best score of the night in that lane.

Some super racing, Heat #2 saw Kev’s W165 leading at the beginning of the race with the car looking very nervous in Yellow, a deslot meant Brian’s Vanwall flew past with almost a lap lead…the Merc clawed back helped with a couple of deslots by the Vanwall with both cars only one second apart at the end of the race.

Heat #4 then saw another close race as Brian’s Vanwall was up against Mike’s Merc W196, both cars circulating within a tenth of a second of each other, a couple of deslots in the race and by the end they were less than one second apart.

Heat #5, again super close, Kev vs Mike, two Mercs, Kev’s W165 not happy at all in Red whilst Mikes W196 going off-track in Blue…both car only three seconds apart at the end of the race.

Heat wins for Mike, Kev, Brian & Geoff,

F1

After the narrow tall skinny tyre shod GP cars it was almost a walk in the park with the wide low fat tyred F1’s.

Three NSR F1’s plus Mike’s Merced-ish (he does have an NSR F1 but still in it’s box…I think he’s missing out).
No close racing tonight with these, Kev’s NSR going best in the Yellow lane whilst Geoff’s NSR was runner-up in F1 Standard and had a best run in the Red lane.
Brian again proved you can’t beat proper preparation as the grubscrew in the crown gear wouldn’t tighten which caused two race stoppages before fitting a HSS grubscrew and throwing the soft stainless one in the bin.  A confident final run in the Blue lane was his best result.

Mike’s Merced-ish had a best run in the Yellow lane but was a fair bit off the pace of the NSR’s tonight.

Heat wins for Kev, Geoff & Brian

Race reports - 28th July - Small Sports/Saloons + Group 5

Small Sports/Saloons

Standard class cars are rarely raced in this class as there isn’t anything on the market that’s competitive…that is until recently as Revoslot have released a Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA…shortly to be followed by a Mk1 Escort then a BMW 2002.

Six entrants for tonight's racing, a couple of resin AC Cobras (Gav & Kev), a couple of small saloons (Chris & Geoff) plus Andy & Brian’s Alpine & Healey.

Kev’s best run was in Blue
Chris’s best run was in Blue
Andy’s best run was in Red
Brian’s best run was in Yellow
Geoff’s best run was in Blue
Gav’s best run was in Yellow

Heat #3 was the closest of the six heats with Geoff, Gav & Brian finishing within 10 seconds of each other.

Heat wins for Kev, Brian & Andy

Group 5

Racer/Sideways Gr5 cars have dominated Standard class for years. An easy car to modify as the chassis is compatible with SlotIt SW pods which makes them quicker and easier to drive.  Gav & Brian both racing Racer Gr5’s with SlotIt SW pods in Modified class. Brian’s Capri was the car to beat last time out but tonight lost out in Red, taking it a little easier knowing full well laps-mean-prizes.  A best run in Blue for the Capri.  Gav’s Ferrari was found to have multiple issues before racing started, Andy kindly let Gav borrow a similar car and he raced it well with a best run in Blue.

Three different cars in Standard class, all three are regulars, Geoff, Chris & Kev.  Chris’s Nissan Skyline has often looked badly lacking in grip but tonight was flying round with a hot lap actually faster than Geoff’s BMW 320i but Geoff was more consistent whilst the big Skyline struggled a bit in Red. A best run in Blue for the Nissan.  An 80 lap total for the BMW 320i was a great result for Geoff with a best run in Blue. Kev’s BMW has gone well this year in Standard class, a best run in Blue tonight and 83 laps.

One Open class car, Andy’s BMW M1 flew round with a couple of 29 lappers and an 85 lap total.

Heat wins for Andy, Geoff, Kev

Race reports - 11th August - Saloon + Sports

Firstly, it was great to see Paul return to the club for the first time in about 2 years…his Mutley Racing cup still hanging on the wall waiting for him to return.

Saloon

All three classes were represented tonight which meant three class winners.

In Standard Class Mike H raced a Peugeot 406, this has been the car to have in Standard Saloon for years.  Mikes 406 went well tonight, three very controlled races.  Heat #4 in Blue was his best lane score finishing not far behind Paul’s Camaro.

In Modified Class Kev raced an Opel Manta 400 seen last week terrorising TT Grandstand, it went well…for about 90 seconds then times dropped as tyre issues reared their head.  Paul’s Camaro first saw action in heat #2 and went best in the Yellow lane, obviously a bit ring-rusty after such a long time away but enjoyed racing on a big track again.  A best lane score for the Camaro was runner up in heat #4 in Yellow.  A best lane score for the Opel Manta was runner up in heat #7 in Kev’s favoured Blue lane.

Open Class was where the main action was, four cars, the quickest of which was Andy’s Peugeot 406 rocket that strangely went best in the Red lane but was just too consistent and quick to be caught.  The battle for 2nd was closer than the result shows with Chris & Geoff not far apart, the big difference was their Yellow lane scores.  ’Comeback King’ tonight was Chris, having a couple of great races, one with Kev’s Manta and one with Geoff’s Opel.  Mike B’s Mustang has been a regular entry in Saloon and it always goes well, you can see how well it digs into the corners.

Heat wins for Andy, Chris, Geoff & Kev.

Sport

Again all three classes were represented meaning three class winners.

Only three Moslers tonight in Standard Class joined by Mike H’s Alfa Romeo T33/3, a great little race car not quite a match for the Moslers but made a big impression.  Kev, Geoff & Mike B blasted past the little Alfa a few times, Kev’s copper coloured one within inches of a 31 lapper in Blue.  Geoff’s score in Red was the main difference between his and Mike B’s Moslers.  Heat #1 was good, Geoff vs Chris vs Paul…Chris managing the win, Geoff less than a tenth of a second behind and Paul’s Marcos a few seconds behind.

Modified Class - Paul got to race his Revo Marcos on a Pendle 3D chassis, a nice smooth runner that goes great…he put this car together getting on for two years ago.

Two regulars in Open Class, Andy & Chris.  Chris’s Dome Judd started as a project a couple of years ago and just goes great, so consistent…three heat wins was a good night for the black and white chequered car.  Meanwhile Andy decided to race a Lamborghini for a change, it’s been seen many times in practice and tonight got to race proper, the Huracan managed a best lane score in Heat #1 in Red.

Heat wins for Chris, Geoff & Kev

Race reports - 18th August - The ‘Italian Job’

Although we had four regular club members away / ill / post surgery recuperation / family commitments there were enough to race thanks to Brian turning up in the nick of time.

We saw allsorts of Italian race cars in practice and when the race sheets were filled in there were some new cars on the grid.

All cars entered did 5 qually laps in the Red lane with the best time being used to calculate the predicted score.  The driver who managed to get closest to their predicted score in the races would be the winner.  This meant any of the cars entered could win as long as they were consistent and didn’t need much marshal help.  Qually in the slow lane means you can't sandbag, you have to push it like crazy because the quicker lanes means you 'overshoot' your target score.

ROUND 1

Kev raced the recently released Revo Alfa GTA for the first time and it goes as well as expected.  A very consistent runner managed to stay within a lap of Andy’s Alfa in Heat #3 and Brian’s Maserati in Heat #6.
Paul also has one of the Revo Alfas but needs a new spur gear, as he couldn’t race it the trusty Lancia LC2 saw double action tonight.  The Lancia is a long car and the tail is longer than it looks as Kev’s Alfa found out on lap #1 ending in the long grass at the side of the road.  Two heat wins in round one was a good return to action for the Lancia beating Kev’s Alfa in Heat #2 and Brian’s Maserati in Heat #4.
Andy raced an interesting couple of cars, the Alfa 147 with the all female crew showing the boys how it’s done…(whilst Valentino Rossi blasted round in the Ferrari 458 in round 2).  Two heat wins for the ladies in the Alfa, Heat #3 against Kev’s Alfa and Heat #5 against Paul’s Lancia.
Brian’s very tidy Maserati GT3 looks slow but it’s so consistent, winning heat #1 in the Blue lane which was his best lane score.  Another heat win in Heat #6 against Kev’s Alfa for the Maserati.

Heat wins in heat order for Brian, Paul & Andy.

ROUND 2

Andy lined up for Heat #1 in this round with a very quick Ferrari 458 against Kev’s quick Ferrari 512S, this first race was a marked increase in performance for both drivers over their first round cars.  The 458 won the heat in the Blue lane over the 512S in the Red lane.
Heat #2 saw a return for Paul’s Lancia LC2 in the Yellow lane whilst Brian raced Andy’s Ferrari F40 in Red…not the best lane to have your first race with a borrowed QUICK car but managed to finish ahead of the Lancia.
Heat #3 was Kev’s Ferrari 512S chance to show it’s true race pace lining up against Brian who was now in the quick Blue lane.  The 512S making a quick getaway with a marshal-free race the F40 couldn’t keep up.
Heat #4 saw Paul’s Lancia lining up against Andy’s ferrari, with this being the 458’s best lane score of the night the LC2 couldn’t keep up despite also managing it’s best lane score of this round.
Heat #5 was the last race for Paul’s Lancia and Kev’s Ferrari 512S.  A best lane score of the night saw the Ferrari finish ahead of the Lancia.
The final race of the night was Heat #6, Andy vs Brian, two Ferrari’s going head to head, another marshal-free race with Andy finishing ahead by just over a lap.  Watching Brian push the F40 round the first right hander was entertaining with both inside tyres in the air.

Heat wins in heat order for Andy, Brian & Kev

So who won?...

If this was a normal head-to-head race the cars on the grid would have been totally different, these handicap races are all about consistency and a car that can be raced at a constant pace.  Although we had a few deslots a bit of luck always comes in handy.

The spread of the results shows just how well all the cars were raced, in the past we’ve seen differences of numerous laps, tonight everyone finished less than 4 laps from their predicted result.

A great nights racing with mixed special heats meant everyone raced everyone and an event I for one can’t wait to do again next year.

Race reports - 25th August - Club BMW 320i

Six club members turned up before racing started, Chris back after surgery but took it easy.  Lot’s of practice took place with many of last weeks Italian cars seen on track again.

The Club BMW’s were given plenty of tyre cleaning laps after being sat in the box a few months, each car getting a service and adjustments where necessary.

We mentioned using the controllers from the ‘Club Challenge’ set, this was offered as an option that three of us decided to use.

No qualifying tonight but two lots of custom heats and races of 200 seconds…Murray Walker popped in a few times tonight with inevitable mayhem.

Round #1 heat #1 was Kev in Red vs Brian in Blue, Brian winning the race by just over one second and had a great 30 lapper.
R.1 H.2 was Paul (Red) vs Chris (Yellow), Paul winning by just over a lap.  It was obvious Chris was struggling to get comfortable, he tried sitting for one race but didn’t like the perspective and couldn’t gauge the bends as easily.
R.1 H.3 was Kev (Yellow) vs Geoff (Red), kev off to a good start…a deslot lost the lead…a few laps later another deslot whilst adjusting the controller meant Geoff was miles in the lead…Kev fought back to finish just over two seconds behind Geoff who drove the quick red car well.
R.1 H.4 was Brian (Yellow) vs Paul (Blue), Paul raced the blue car very well, it’s the easiest of the three cars to push hard and he finished a lap and a half ahead of Brian who had a couple too many deslots.
R.1 H.5 - Chris (Red) vs Geoff (Blue) - a great 30 lapper by Geoff no stopping him this race as Chris struggled a little with the very quick red car.  The red car is easily the quickest of the three but not the easiest to push hard.
R.1 H.6 - Paul (Yellow) vs Kev (Blue) - a great 30 lapper from Kev with a clean run, Paul pushing the Yellow car too hard a couple of times with the marshal helping out, sometimes not the easiest place to grab a car.
R.1 H.7 - the final heat of Round 1 has three drivers and only two marshals…time to race carefully…what could possibly go wrong…yes, thanks Murray.  Chris (Blue) and Geoff (Yellow) weren’t far apart at the end, both circulating within a tenth of a second of each other, Geoff was off the track three times to Chris’s two.  Brian couldn’t keep up, taking it easy and only one deslot may count when the results of Round 2 are in.

Race wins in heat order for Brian, Paul, Kev, Geoff & Chris (everyone a winner).

The heats were mixed up and Round #2 Heat #1 was Geoff (Red) vs Paul (Blue).  Paul finished just over a lap clear.
R.2 H.2 was Chris (Red) vs Brian (Yellow).  Brian finished two laps ahead of Chris,
R.2 H.3 was Kev (Red) vs Geoff (Yellow) - this heat was close, Kev finishing two seconds ahead of Geoff.
R.2 H.4 was Paul (Yellow) vs Chris (Blue).  Paul finished just over a lap ahead of Chris, this was to be the best heat of this round for Chris.
R.2 H.5 was Brian (Red) vs Kev (Blue).  Kev finished two and a half laps ahead of Brian.
R.2 H.6 was Chris (Yellow) vs Geoff (Blue).  Geoff finished three and a half laps ahead of Chris.
R.2 H.7 was Paul (Red) vs Kev (Yellow) vs Brian (Blue).  Brian & Kev weren’t far apart all race, Paul in Red not able to keep up the same pace and in the end Brian won by less than a second ahead of Kev.

Race wins in heat order for Paul, Brian, Kev & Geoff

Race reports - 15th September - GP/Prewing F1 + Classic F1/F1

Two new visitors to the club last night, Edward who raced Slot cars many years ago and Alan who was introduced to the club members present by Gavin.

GP/Prewing F1

Although the class wins weren’t close some heats certainly saw close racing.

Heat #1 with Brian’s Vanwall (Modified GP) finished just over a lap ahead of Chris’s Maserati 250F (Open GP).

Heat #2 was Gavin’s best heat, the Lancia D50 (Open GP) only two seconds behind Chris’s Maserati.

Heat #3 was super close, Brian & Chris swapping the lead…in the end Brian’s Vanwall just finished ahead of Chris’s Maserati by less than two seconds.

Heat #6 Kev’s Mercedes W165 (Modified GP) finished just over a lap ahead of Mike’s Ferrari 156 (Open Pre-wing).  Heat #7 was Kev’s best run with the Merc.

Heat #4 was Mike’s best run with the Ferrari which was also the best heat for Andy’s Ferrari with Kev’s Merc W165 the closest Andy saw in all three heats.  An unruffled night’s racing for Andy’s Ferrari 156.

Heat winners in heat order: Brian, Andy & Kev

Classic F1/F1

Standard class was busy tonight, starting with five NSR’s.  With the heats the same for this class as the earlier GP/Pre-wing racing Chris & Brian were again swapping race leads in Heat #1 & #3, Brian finished ahead in both but not by much.  Heat #3 was the closest, a couple of deslots late in the race from Chris meant Brian could breathe a sigh of relief crossing the finish line in front.

Andy was the runaway winner in Heat #2 whilst in Blue, this was to be Andy’s last heat finish as a race incident in Heat #4 meant a DNF.

Kev’s best run was a 29 lapper in Blue with Gavin having his best heat whilst in Red.

Gavin managed a couple of runners-up spots in Heats #6 & #7

Mike was the sole Open class runner, the Merced’ish being consistent but not able to keep up with the NSR’s.  Yellow lane in Heat #3 was the best run for the Merc.

It’s great to see some club members racing fully liveried NSR F1’s, it transforms a bland single coloured car.

One of our visitors, Alan joined in the racing, these are not the best classes for a first nights racing, fast, wide and prone to deslot.  Racing the sole Standard class Classic F1, the Policar Ferrari nearly managed 22 laps in Yellow during Heat #7.  Chris let him borrow a BRM BT24 for the GP/Pre-wing racing although not a Pre-wing era car he managed 18 laps in Heat #5 in Blue.

Heat winners in heat order: Brian, Andy & Kev

Our other visitor Edward had a drive of a Spirit Peugeot after the racing was finished and seemed to enjoy driving on a big track for the first time in many years.

Race reports - 22nd September - Small Sports/Saloons + Group 5

A good turnout tonight as seven club members raced a good variety of cars across the different classes.

Small Sports/Saloons

This year we have seen many cars in the Modified class, 3D chassis are seen every week alongside the favourite scatchbuilds seen for a few years now. It’s only a matter of time before we see one or two Revo Alfas/Escorts/BMW 2002’s in Standard class.

Heat #1 - Brian & Mike were racing for 2nd spot as Andy’s King Cobra couldn’t be caught, in the end Brain’s Healey which seemed to be going noticeably quicker this week finished less than half a lap ahead of Mike’s Moggy Racer, Andy finished a few laps clear at the end of the race.

Heat #2 - would have been close for 1st place but a deslot for Andy’s King Cobra meant Kev’s AC Cobra could be raced a little easier and that’s how it stayed until the end of the race with Geoff’s Mini a few laps behind.

Heat #3 - The first of two runners-up spots for Mike’s Moggy Racer, this heat finishing behind Andy’s King Cobra but ahead of Gav’s Cobra.

Heat #4 - saw the return to race action for Paul’s Ferrari 365 P2 faced up to Geoff’s rapid Mini, they were only one second apart at the end of the race with the Ferrari a fraction behind.  Gav’s Cobra managed its best lane score in this heat to finish less than two laps behind the Mini.

Heat #5 - this had the makings of the best heat of the night as Geoff, Mike & Brian lined up with a Mini in the slow lane, a Healey in the fast lane and a Moggy racer inbetween.  A first lap crash for the Mini & Healey let the Moggy lead for over a minute…Brian chipping away at the lead to eventually catch up…then pass, to win the heat nearly a lap ahead of the Moggy no doubt helped by a couple of ‘offs’ as Mike got carried away and Geoff’s Mini recovering after the first lap plus another two or three ‘offs’ to finish only half a lap behind the Moggy.

Heat #6 - Paul in Yellow managed his best lane score with the Ferrari but couldn’t catch Kev’s AC Cobra in his favoured Blue lane that was his best lane score also.  Gav racing the other AC Cobra struggled a little in Red.

Heat #7 - Brian managed his beat heat score in Yellow whilst Kev (Red) & Paul (Blue) managed their worst lane scores.  At the end of this final heat all three cars were within two laps of each other.

Heat winners in heat order: Andy, Kev, Geoff & Brian

Group 5

Standard Class means Racer Sideways cars, Geoff’s BMW 320i vs Kev’s BMW M1.  They did get to race each other, Heat #2, both drivers managing their best lane scores, Kev in Blue, Geoff in Yellow with the 320i having one deslot on lap #3 the M1 finished a lap ahead at the end of the race.  Looking at the results sheet these two cars are well matched in Red & Yellow, the big difference came in the quick lane where Kev’s M1 managed to stretch the advantage beyond Geoff’s 320i.

Modified Class usually means Racer Sideways cars with SlotIt sidewinder pods, some of these are rockets.  Tonight this class was Brian’s Capri vs Paul’s Porsche 935 and based on previous Gr5 Modified Class racing the Porsche was going to struggle.  The Capri was on a mission tonight not only outpacing the Porsche 935 but seriously tested Andy’s Open Class M1 in Heats #4 & #6.  Paul’s best single result was in Heat #1 in Blue finishing 2nd to Mike’s Open Class Capri.

Open Class Gr.5 is usually where you find the quickest car, Andy’s BMW M1 going off track in Heat #6 in Yellow losing nearly a lap but recovered really well to finish with the best overall score with less than a lap to spare.  Mike’s Capri had it’s best race in Heat #5 in Blue, this heat had one car from each class, the Capri finishing less than 3 seconds behind Kev’s BMW.  Gav’s Porsche went best in Blue lane in Heat #3 behind Paul’s 935 and Brian’s Capri.

Heat #1 was close as Mike’s Capri finished ahead of Paul’s Porsche by just over 4 seconds.

Heat #5 was closer as Mike & Paul again raced to within 2.8 seconds of each other.

Heat #4 was the race between what was to end up being the three class winners with Andy’s M1 in Red, Kev’s M1 in Yellow & Brian’s Capri in Blue…the Modified Class Capri won that one.  Andy’s BMW M1 managed the only 28 lapper in Red to finish 3 seconds behind the Capri.

The closest race tonight was Heat #6 as Brian’s Capri finished only 0.3 seconds behind Andy’s BMW after a great recovery drive to win the heat by Andy.

Heat winners in heat order: Mike, Kev, Brian & Andy

Race reports - 29th September - Saloons + Sports

Saloons

Another good turnout tonight as seven of us raced mainly DTM’s

Standard Class

Ed dragged a 20 year old Ninco Merc out of retirement, it was slow but it was consistent and for a car with zero setup it went better than expected and should be much nicer to drive next time. Although Ed has been down before and driven a few cars in practice this was his first race night.

Modified Class

Kev racing an SCX DTM Merc on a Sloting plus 3D chassis and Brian racing a SlotIt Opel with NSR motor, both cars were very consistent but the Opel couldn’t keep up with the Merc in the overall standings but they never raced each other.

Open Class

The business end of the grid, three Andy’s chassis Opels raced by Andy, Chris & geoff plus Mike’s Mustang.  Four heats saw two or more of these racing each other, Heat #2 was Andy, Chris & Geoff with Geoff’s Opel storming to the heat win.

The closest race was Heat #7 the final race with all three finishing within half a lap of each other.  Chris was putting in the fastest laps but deslots ultimately relegated his Opel to third spot behind Brian’s Opel, meanwhile Mike’s ‘65 Mustang may have been a little down on pace to the Opels but keeping it in the slot is what counts as he won the heat.

Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Geoff, Chris & Mike B.

Sports

Standard Class

Not surprisingly a Mosler-fest, three of them breaking the 80 lap barrier.  Kev’s copper missile seemed to come round again a few too many times for some, Brians got closest in Heat #1.  Heat #5 was the only all Standard Class race as Geoff & Brian lined up with Kev for what was to be the quickest race of the night for Kev in Blue and Brian in Yellow.
Geoff’s Mosler first saw action in Heat #2 in the quick lane (Blue), after the starter called ‘GO!’ the Mosler never looked back with a comfortable win for what was Geoff’s quickest race tonight.
Mike’s best run by far was in the Blue lane, sadly outgunned by Geoff’s Mosler & Andy’s Ferrari with the heat win going to the Rossi Ferrari 458.
Ed racing in Sports for the first time, his Audi R8C another out of the box car, had it’s magnet removed before being driven for the first time.  His best race was Heat #6 in Blue finishing half a lap behind Mike’s Mosler.

Open Class

Andy’s black Valentino Rossi Ferrari 458 certainly looks quick… Heat #7 in Blue was his best run tonight plus two heat wins, the first of which Heat #4 in Red against Geoff & Mike, the second win was Heat #6 racing Mike & Ed.
Chris usually races a Dome Judd in Sports, it’s totally different to the rest and looks satisfyingly quick enough to be competing for heat wins..as long as he doesn’t line up against Geoff or Kev’s Moslers which he did do twice. Heat #3 in Blue was his best run against Brian & Mike B that ended up Brian’s sole class win tonight.

The closest race in Sports was Heat#4 as Andy (Red), Geoff (Yellow) and Mike B (Blue) finished within 9 seconds of each other.

Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Geoff, Brian & Andy

Race reports - 6th October - 60’s Minis & 60’s Mustangs

With a few club members not able to get down to the club tonight we had enough drivers for a nights racing with two marshals and two drivers per heat.
For a change we had an even number of Minis and Mustangs (or alternative).

60’s MINI’s

Chris borrowed Andy’s quick Minisprint and Mike borrowed Kev’s Mini Clubman last raced by Brian (who now has his own Mini).

Heat #1. One Mini was head and shoulders ahead of the other three, Chris drove a super quick Minisprint exceptionally well and no matter how much turbo was added to Kev’s controller his Mini wasn’t going to keep up.
Heat #2. Brian raced his Mini for the first time, on a WAC chassis it goes remarkably well and is a popular setup in the club.
Heat #4. Mike has a Mini but it’s stuck in a particular development stage that isn’t going to see progress so borrowed Kev’s original Mini but fitted with a quicker motor than last time, it also goes well.

Heat wins in heat order for Chris, Brian & Kev

All in all, between us we have a fair selection of well sorted Minis.

60’s MUSTANGS (and alternatives)

Heat #1. Kev’s modified black Mustang was too quick for Mikes Pioneer Mustang, those kit tyres seemed to work well for Mike until he pushed the car too hard.

Heat #2. Brian doesn’t have a Mustang so borrowed Chris’s black Camaro…and didn’t he enjoy racing it!...two heat wins to the black Camaro…Chris obviously pleased to see his Camaro go well but would have preferred to see it follow his Mustang over the line.

Chris prepped a nice red Mustang for these Minis & Mustangs races, when he’s not pushing it too hard it’s very consistent (and would make a nice Classic class Rally car).

Mike should be commended for doing a good job with a standard Pioneer Mustang, it was the nicest looking car on the track but outgunned by the race prepped opposition.

A best run for Mike in Heat #4 in Yellow.
A best run for Chris in Heat #6 in Yellow
A best run for Kev in Heat #5 in Blue
A best run for Brian in Heat #4 in Blue

Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Brian & Chris

Race reports - 20th October - Club Revoslots

With five club members and two never having driven these before it was going to be an interesting evening.

The cars were last run in June so a fair few cleaning laps were done before the start of the first few heats.

Club controllers were used by all except Paul who decided to use a 55 Ohm CS controller and despite only minimal adjustments available the cars go remarkably well.

Everyone went quicker in Round 2 except Mike but he did dramatically improve his fastest race lap second time out.

The final heat in Round 1 was the closest heat, although Mike won he was only a lap clear of Paul & Brian who finished within half a lap of each other…Kev as the sole marshal was kept busy at times!

Ed & Paul had never driven these before and both did a good job.  Paul matched Brian & Mike with the yellow Marcos which is a bit of a flying machine.

Mike outscored Brian in Round 1 but Brian outscored Mike in Round 2.

Kev went really well in Round 1 but managed an extra half a lap in Yellow and Blue and kept calm with the red Porsche in Round 2 improving by three laps.  Two wins in Round 1 and three wins in Round 2.

Brian also managed to improve by three laps, the biggest improvement also with the red Porsche.  Two wins in Round 1 and three wins in Round 2.

Mike’s best three lane scores were all in Round 1 and won all three of his heats but couldn’t keep that up in Round 2.

Paul opted for a resistor controller and found it was far too high an ohmage to keep up on track.  He did manage a heat win in Round 2 and a super close finish in the final heat in Round 1 just two seconds behind Brian.

Ed hasn’t raced anything this quick before and with a controller that doesn’t have the ability to turn the top speed down struggled to properly control the cars but managed a best result with the blue Dodge Viper in Round 2.

Round 1.
Heat wins in heat order for Paul, Kev & Brian

Round 2.
Heat wins in heat order for Brian, Mike & Kev
