Autumn Endurance - InterSeries Proxy

Wavegreen Good afternoon,

Just before I move on to the next class , there is the posting of the Class A Scrutineers Report below.

In general I was quite happy with the compliance.

Only Team Tatters AMG Mercedes failed the spec in regard to track clearance, but I know this was the substitute car made up very quickly because of the failure of the original car. So I will allow the car to run, but there maybe a stewards enquiry at the end of the series which could result in a points penalty if the car was seen to had gained an performance enhancing advantage.

So onto the Classic Le mans (Class B) cars

Obviously there is a space where car 5 (Oaktree Racers - Maserati) should be, should it arrive before we start the timed runs, I will include it in this presentation posting.

Rokers Roar - Cunningham C4R

Fitted with a full set of lights this car is based on a Resin body with a PCS32 adjustable chassis and PCS 20k in line motor.

Test Run- this one will need careful driving, the chassis does not lend itself well for offering stability, as its difficult to fix any weight where its needed, so the car has a tendency to roll on the corners. But it is a very pleasing model to run.

Bangers Racing - AC Cobra

Originally Bangers Racing were intending to field the Jaguar D Type from "Le Mans proxy" of last year, but could not quite get it right, so they chosen to field the American Road Race Classic car class winner. Unfortunately this car does not come with lights fitted, so will not benefit from the bonus points.
It is based on a Polystil body with Slot it Adjustable chassis and now with a NSR 20k SW motor.

Test Run - it is very stable when run fast, and fast it does run..... so it will be the one to beat this time around, but perhaps those lost bonus points maybe to the others advantage.

BARacer - Ferrari 250GTO

First of the two Ferrari 250's, this one is based on a Fly body with Amato 3d Chassis with in line 20k NSR motor.

Test Run- I love this kind of slightly mustard coloured Ferrari yellow body colour, and the yellow light lenses would have earned an extra point, if I was awarding them for "Best presented Lighting".....perhaps next time. The car ran quite well, I think it struggled abit because the front tended to out brake the rear and the rear tyres were quite narrow. So grip could be an issue over the 20 lap running period. Therefore smaller diameter front wheels, raised a little more off the track and wider rear tyres would have helped alot I think.

RoadRunners - Aston Martin DB1

well where do we start with this one......everything was looking great this morning, a few weeks ago I had replaced the original Pioneer 18k motor (which had secured me 2nd place in last years Le Mans proxy) with a NSR 20k motor in the JS Design AW chassis. Then disaster, the top of the chassis holding the motor in place broke off during the Test Run  Tappingfoot I managed to superglue it back in place.....then one of the lighting wires broke...... Tappingfoot Tappingfoot

Eventually with the lighting wire soldered together I managed the Test run

Test Run- well it looks very competitive, if only it can hold itself together  Ambulance I have put out an urgent request for a replacement chassis, but unlikely to be able to get it or fit it before Sunday. So the car as it is, will have to run ....with my fingers firmly crossed.

Oaktree Racers - Maserati A6 GCS
Well this one took an awful long time to appear, since it was entered in the "Milie Miglia" it somehow got lost and ended up in Le Mans race !

It is based on the Carrera body but with a brass chassis and Scaleauto Slimline motor. Has full lights fitted.

Test Run - this one is more of a gentle cruise around the track at a leisurely pace, driver waving to the Grandstand spectators as he passes. Fairly stable though so might give the slower cars something to worry about.

Brumos RSR - Porsche 904

So here it is the long awaited tiny Porsche 904, not sure about the "flock effect" silver body paint colour, and it could had at least some racing numbers on it  Tease
However it does demonstrate that if your going to enter a "skinny" model you really need to fit a brass chassis  Bigsmile It is fitted with a AW NSR 20k motor

Test Run- well it runs really well, very stable on the corners and fast on the straights, so could be very tight at the top in this class. oh by the way Brumos, the spur gear needed tightening up and one of the light lenses fell out. But I will fix that and that very long guide flag needed shortening at the front, 24mm was way too long.

Well time for another break...be back later

Green Star Racing - MGA

One of my favourite classic cars from previous Le Mans proxy, 6th out of 8 runners last year. This improved version has a 3d chassis with in line Flat 6 motor. The lights are much improved and exceptionally bright  Idea you will be easily able to see this one in the dark  Rofl

Test Run - it is quite narrow and probably as mentioned above would be more competitive with a brass chassis, so it has a tendency to roll if corners are taken at speed, but runs better than last year, and a joy to run  Heart

Mountain View Racing - Ferrari 250 GTO

Another Ferrari Fly body model with Amato Chassis, different motor, this time a in line Sideways 20k motor. Full set of lights fitted. Hang on a minute was it not black last year ? I reckon Mountain View Racing have a fleet of these Ferrari's  Rofl

Test Run - umm! another very fast car, I could be in trouble here and not just because my chassis is falling apart.

Well that's it for tonight, tomorrow is the Classic Daytona (Class C) and I will be praying tonight that the Aston Chassis will suddenly appear like a miracle before Sunday....but probably not

Graham, thank you for the shakedown run of the cars, it is greatly appreciated.  Sorry that there are no numbers on the 904, the body was changed out last minute from a Carrera and the lights added from a MRRC 904 for weight. I apologize for the spur gear and guide which I thought I had tight and measured correctly.  I’m not expecting much as the car has been bench tested and was rebuilt on theory, so we will see.  That Cobra has proven to be tough to out run so we will see.  Good luck to all the builders as the cars appear to be HOTT and ready to go!!

well I am tempted to put some stick on number decals on myself, so next time you see the photos......., the spur gear just came loose on running,  so no great problem, the guide flag I cut back by 2.5mm to make it legal, but it didn't seem to slowed it down at all  Rofl .....still too fast  Sun

Nice presentation.

I entered the Astra because I love the body styling and livery and have been waiting for an suitable event to run it in. It didn't click that it would be up against Le Mans prototypes!

The GTO was originally built up for the Worthing Goodwood Revival series, hence the narrow tyres. If I recall correctly, I couldn't drop the front anymore as the body would have rubbed on the tyres.

There...got my excuses in early!

I love puttering with gears

Wavegreen Good Morning

Scrutineer Report for Classic Le Mans (Class B)

Generally compliance to the rules was quite good, the idea in regard to setting wheel/tyres diameters and tyre widths is in order to keep the contenders cars relatively to scale and to give a fairly even playing field to the wide range of competing cars in this class. But also I have in mind the practical nature of running these Proxy's where time is quite restricting component of running 30-40 cars in a day. So I set "Rear tyre widths" marginally wider than to scale in order to offer better track stability to these classic cars. In reality this era of sports cars should have been max 7.5mm width according to CSCRA Rules.

The late arrival of the Maserati A6 GCS of Oaktree Racers means that this chart has been updated, this car had a Slimline Scaleauto 25k rpm motor fitted, which is out of the specified range. So the car will be under investigation after the series has run.

And then there is the question whether you should measure "Overall tyre wall thickness" or "Tyre width when in contact with the track" ?  In my view the latter is more important in regard to competitive performance, so rightly or wrongly I have decided that this is my criteria, and in effect mostly this was complied with. One thing I would say is that many would disagree in regard to National Championships where overall tyre width is usually the measurement accepted. And it is probably true to say that overall tyre width is more accurate to measure using a caliper, than trying to measure contact surface area.

Amendment
I have reconsidered the above statement, and whilst the Administrator part of me wants to avoid controversy and satisfy the majority, the Scrutineer part  tells me that we should abide by conventional understanding of the rules applied. So I have done a U -turn and decided that "Overall Tyre wall Thickness" should prevail.

Therefore there will be a Review of the results at the end of the Series and should the offending cars (including my own) be seen to had gained an unfair  advantage over the compliant cars above. There will be a deduction of 1 point per Round deduction.
But there we go, let the debate commence..........

That had me scratching my head for a minute, Sideways only do a 17k and 21.5k motor .... but if its from a Sideways group 5 that makes sense, as its  a re-wrapped Slot It 20.5k Flat 6 motor  Bigsmile

I would take the overall tyre width as measurement personally - all tyres will need a rounding on the edge for consistent performance IMO.
Using a 13mm wide tyre and rounding it so the contact area is 12mm does not make it a 12mm tyre  .... just my tuppence worth  Bigsmile

I am enjoying all the pre race build up and introductions, as usual great work, many thanks to you for taking the time Beer

agreed
ppl usually buy max width wall to wall 12mm tyres , if 12mm is the stated rule
but you are the rule maker , so all good

Wavegreen Good afternoon

So I have completed the Daytona (Class C) Review

ALS Racing -Lancia BMC

The 1st of the two Lancia's entered. This is a Sideways Body & Chassis fitted with AW PSM21 Piranha  21.5k motor. No lights fitted

Test Run - very fast and smooth running car, perhaps a little less stable around corners than some of the other similar Group 5 cars.

Ruscillo Racing - BMW M1

This is a Sideways Body & Chassis model fitted with the standard 20.5k motor. No lights fitted.

Test Run - Another fast moving car perhaps seemed  more stable around the many bends on my Carrera track.

Team Groundhogs - De Tomaso Pantera

The 1st of the De Tomaso's, this Scaleauto body & SW Chassis version is fitted with a slot it 23k motor. Full lights fitted

Test Run - A little noisy and uneven around the gears area perhaps. And did not feel quite so smooth as many of the others. The pace appeared a little down on the Group 5 cars.

Courtney Sport - Camaro 72

Scalex body, Olifer 3d chassis, AW Predator 22.5k motor. No lights fitted

Test Run - Well I kind of expected Courtney to have played safe and enter his Porsche 914/6 from last year, but unexpectedly he has offered this superb car. All I can say is "be very afraid" I can't recollect having ran a slot car which is so quiet and smooth EVER. And does it move, well you Group 5 guys may be struggling to keep up !

Oaktree Racers - Porsche 914/6

I did have time to do a new photo, so I found this one from the Road Race archives.
The 914/6 eventually turned up, it is a re - run of the same car which entered the Brighton to John O Groats RoadRace in 2021.
SRC body & in line Chassis with M7 21k motor. Full lights fitted.
Test run- the tyres were only fitted before dispatching the cars to me, so they felt abit new and untried, but with settling in they will improve. Mid range speed kind of feel, but we know these cars can perform very well when run in.

Green Star Racing - De Tomaso Pantero

The 2nd Scaleauto body & Chassis De Tomaso Pantera, but this one fitted with AW SRC M6 20k motor. Full set of Lights. This is actually the 4th running of this model in our Proxy series, finished 4th in the "Brighton to John O'Groats Road Race", 7th in the "Lights on, Le Mans" and most recently 3rd in the "American Road Race". So could it be the top spot this time for this well travelled Proxy car  Sun

Test Run - another very smooth runner and great on the corners.. and most importantly fast.

Well that it for tonight, as it is my club night, and I not been for a while, so I will complete the posting tomorrow morning

Wavegreen OK I am back to finish this thread, I also did some soul searching last night in regard to the tyres width issue and decided to do a U-Turn (common acceptable political English term nowadays) and use the "conventional " measurement qualifying understanding of "Overall tyre wall width" rather than "surface contact area" as the Rules requirement. so I will edit the posting of Scrutineer Report Class B above accordingly shortly.

Team Tatters - BMW 320i

A Sideways body and chassis, Scaleauto AW 20k motor. Full lights fitted

Test Run - very smooth and fast, good around my multi corners track, will be a contender at the top as we might expect from this team.

Scott Sports - Porsche 911 Turbo

Scalex body with a AW JS Design chassis, I think an Allslot 22k "Red Devil" motor. No lights fitted.

Test Run - Good grip around my track and has enough power to be competitive in this class, but quite noisy around the gear mesh area, so does not run as smoothly as some of the others. A shame because I think this model would be a good choice, and I like the self decorated body work livery. Shame that the lights were not fitted which may have gave it more of an advantage, looks as if it was contemplated at one stage.

Harrisons Racers - Zakspeed Capri

Fly body with JS Design chassis, and IL Pioneer 22k motor. No lights fitted.

Test Run - the slightly narrower Fly body  and in line motor made it abit more unpredictable around the corners compared to the Sideways Group 5 cars, but ran quite smoothly at a respectable pace.

Bangers Racing - Lancia BMC

Another Fly body based car, so slightly narrower than the Sideways Group 5 cars, with a slot it HRS adjustable chassis (which we know this team generally speaking uses to very good effect), AW Scaleauto 22.5k motor. And front only lights

Test Run - yes very good runner, this time the AW orientation assisting the car around my track corners and the initial feeling is that this one will be up there with the top runners.

So after that very full Class C list of runners, it is time for a coffee break before I complete the Scrutineers Report.
