My Track(s) for Gaydon
#1
Wink

Hi Guys,
As this Forum is presently a small gathering, I thought that I would let on about the tracks that I am making for this year's Slot Car Festival in May.

As you are well aware, I am a digital racer and one of the bugbears of digital racing has to endure is brief short-circuits as the braids cross over lane-changers and breaks (gaps) in the track if using Scalextric type plastic track pieces. Too many of these can disrupt the workings of the chips firmware.

My plan is to separate to change the plane of the electrical rails. Instead of having the right rail as +ve and the left as -ve, I am making them both +ve and inserting the -ve rail into the bottom of the slot. This orientation has the benefit of having everything at track level of the same polarity so the flippers in the lane-changers do not need to be electrically isolated. This is important because when changing lanes, the polarity of the flipper alternates depending upon direction of travel. Further, it means that the flipper will not be a massive dead spot slowing down passing cars or becoming a place where beginners always manage to stall their cars.

This should also have quite an impact on analogue slot-car rallying because only one slot is needed with a single lane loop at each end to be able to drive in either direction on the main part of the track.

That's all for now but I will be posting further details and pictures as and when I am able.

Cheers - Greg

Great lateral thinking Greg.

Having seen inexperienced drivers getting stuck at the "points" this could be a game-changer in making digital reliable/robust and more user-friendly. No doubt peeps will hark back to the 3-conductor system of Carrera Universal. I don't know enough about that to comment about it but that won't stop some people.

Good luck in the venture, this is very radical.

It's funny you should say that because just after I decided upon this, I saw a reference to similar ideas on SF ..... it was kinda deflating but like a wheel, these ideas go round and around ...... Rofl

There is lots of blue-sky thinking on the old-place - its the follow through that counts.

By the way, I just checked and Google is gathering up these pages.
