Here are some photos of the generic Scalextric Formula 1 / Formula 3 chassis's. 

Note how little there is to start with, how they can be narrowed very easily, and that you can shorten, or even cut them into 2 separate pieces. 
Cutting a chassis to shorten it is really pretty straightforward.   As Mr M has already suggested, cut , shorten, brace with plasticard or similar.  Seems a silly idea the first time you go to do it, but you soon get the hang of it.  Best to start with a cheap chassis,  and don't do what I did, which was to use a junior hacksaw.  I got away with it,  but a razor saw is the proper tool for the job.  Pendle's sell these as well!!

chassis cut into 2 pieces, and mounted onto a plastic chassis Mater truck from Cars. Not my work, but a very clever way of adapting a simple chassis.

Thanks Ken, they go well together and it will be finished with a 23k gold leaf stripe for a bit of classy bling

On another note I've just noticed the shaft that connects to the small sprocket is rubbing on the tyre, is it ok to trim this with the Dremel?
I'm guessing it rubbing will obviously slow it down a bit and wear the tyre.

Well apart from clear coat over the decals, I've finished my first home made scalextric vehicle.
I decided I needed to upholster the door that opens the same as the seats & dash so here's a pic of that.
   
   
I'd like to say a huge thanks to Colin at C & C Designs for printing my decals and for his advice in applying them.
   
I can't remember his name on here so I can't tag it.

Thanks for looking, I've been badly bitten by the bug and have already loads more builds in my head planned.
I need to sell my lathe which is taking up too much room in my garage so I can start on my track.
