Thanks Gordon.

Progress.  Clean up tomorrow and re arrange where all the odds and ends will go, then fix down the base, brace the legs, and then start playing ?

Looked at preview and pic tuned on its side. To put it mildly I hate iPhones. ?

Its because you are feeding them into the wrong sort of computer. My iPhone talks properly to my Mac!!

HAH Gordon - I have been loading direct from my Iphone - trying to obviate the need for downloading to my computer.See I loaded these to my computer and all ok - hate phones Cool Rofl Rofl

SO progress photos - does anyone think I have collected too much track Bigsmile Bigsmile Bigsmile
Wait noooo - you can never have too many slots Rofl

Building and testing shape of the track -

Taking shape -

Final shape -

I love this make of ytack but unless I have missed a trick somewhere this track is an absolute B***** to work with - took me the whole afternoon to set that up.

I also spent at least 5-10 mins on each track with a track cleaner type coarse rubber, cleaning off the tarnish that has accumulated over the years.

I will need to source a dedicated transformer for the track - i will use my computer sourced transformer in the interim - am busy today so this is my job for tomorrow.

I also have at least 5 huge carboard boxes of buildings - of which I will maybe be able to use 1 .

A lot of selling off of excess track and builings coming up in the near future me thinks

Sun

Comments or suggestions at this point of the build.

Oh yes - will need timing - so suggestions of how to incorporate it into the track (eg do I cut slots for a dead strip?) as well as what system to use?

If there is track left....it ain't big enough.

Why go the complicated route for timing? Just get LapTracker and use your phone or iPad

Looks awesome Thumbup

Will you be building a Dunlop bridge at the end of the pit lane? That could be used as a light gantry for lap timing sensors. If not, the choice is a dead strip or opto-sensors in the slot. The problem with the latter is they only work well with black guide blades - and I guess some of your vintage builds will have other colours. At least with cutting the dead strip, you have plenty of spare pieces of track if you need them.

I like the simplicity and robustness of the Trackmate module - and you can run numerous software options from it, including Race Coordinator. Or an Arduino board and Race Coordinator is cheaper and isn't too difficult to put together (see here). Depends what vintage of computer you'll be using.

That is looking very nice! And with borders all the way! Thumbup
I have never seen Revell track IRL, I doubt it was sold here. Looks to be hard plastic?
For timing, I stick to my old DS, it serves me well. I am sure there are better options nowadays.
Do you plan any elevation?

Hi Carver

Absolutely will do elevation - just deciding do I cut the board and use risers - or do I use foam core cut to size and shape?

Track wiring is complete and I have ordered a new variable 10 A 0-30V transformer from Germany. Track runs ok but am cosidering changing @sunset bend' and the esses slightly to more accurately reflect the original track. But took 'a day off' from that yesterday as it really is horrible connecting this track. Wonderful once done but frustrating to set up.

A few pictures while I work out what buildings I will use - they are not original for the real Kyalami but they are from the 60's in the main, and have tried them out in approx positions that Kyalami had in the late 60's.

The one anomaly are the TV stands as RSA did not get TV until 1976 Rofl

Need to do this to visualise what to do with elevations - need to raise track at Leewkop and Crowthorne corners. (beginning of main straigt and end of main straght, And I still may change the esses area.

This is a Card stock replica of the original famous Scalextric Control Tower, place approximately where the real ' Springbok tower' stood and was the contro; tower in the day.

Another card stock replica of the Scalextric Entrance hall -, again in the approximate postion of the south entrance to Kyalami

On the left is Leeukop (Lion Head) corner and on the right the bottom exit of the Esses.

The corner at the end of the straight - Crowthorne coming down to Barbeque bend.....

The Dunlop bridge on the main straight.

It is always advisable to first place the buildings next to the track and test a few laps whether the view is not obstructed too much.
