And finally, I get to the truth...it's easy because you've played with wood all your life!

I love puttering with gears

To a degree. When I look at people who deal with computers or can count beyond five, I suspect them of indulging in black magic.

We are all good at different things.

That happened to me once too. You know in advance that it's not safe without crash barriers, but the curiosity about how the cars will perform on the new track wins over the mind. Banghead

That is a very nice new promising hobby room you have. Thumbup
It's always good to do a test track first. It makes it a lot easier to create the layout of a larger permanent track.

The room is really a utility room with the central heating room off to one side. Three doors unfortunately so long straights - I like those - will be impossible. The big advantage is that the room is directly off the lounge so easy to sneak off without too much trouble Bigsmile

To a degree, it depends how difficult (ie...expensive) insulating the main loft is going to be and that goes over the entire house and will give me free space of about 10 metres by 7metres. Get a nice track in that space Sun

Well, to be a good earth citizen, your loft should be properly insulated anyway.
My line of approach would be something like this:
"Just think of the savings we'll make on the fuel bills"
"A big track is a totally unexpected bonus (honest), but it would be criminal to let such a nice space go to waste"

Wow, 10 by 7 metres, that sounds really good!!
As a slot race fan I can imagine that the loft may have been the decisive factor in choosing this house?
Well done. Thumbup

Strangely enough it wasn't!! In fact, none of the lofts were accessible when we first saw the house. As we were 500 kilometres away from home and had a dozen houses to look at, we were a bit pressed for time. I had assumed that I would be using part of the garage block as a track room but Ronnie seems to think that a trailer, mower, rotovator etc are essential bits of equipment but then she has always thought of the garden as more important than the house....bloody professionals eh? The car could have been left outside too.

I've been wondering for a while what route to take on lap counting and timing.

Being an electrickery numpty, all the usual solutions seemed beyond my limited capabilities.

Since getting an iPad mini, I downloaded LapTracker from the Apps store and have just rigged up a temporary - probably permanent - block to hold the Pad. The Mini is just the right size I think. A full size one would be over large.

Works very well indeed and will send an Exell spreadsheet to the Mac for playing with. Can't remember how much it was, certainly no more than 2 or 3 euros. Worth much more. Highly recommended.

Sure is. A bit of building timber at that Sun

I have a keyboard coming for the pad tomorrow so it will be handy to hold the thing upright for that as well. I suppose, at some stage, I should make a pretty one but there is so much going on in the house at the mo that I suspect this one will be around for some time.
