HO Drag Proxy Winter Series 2020-1 Finale RACE REPORT
#31

We enjoyed that. Well done Clive!

Jane is tranquillo, and I'm chuffed to finally have a car that is in the mix.

Racing your wife twice in a day is not great, but at least it was a one all draw.

Thanks Woodcote.

Sunday has started with some serious warming-up of those pancake motors - a nice smell of ozone and a bit of smoke* too...

We'll start with the AW Top Fuelers - qualifying followed by eliminators - then NHRA Funny Car / Pro STock / Pro Mod, Nostalgia Funny Car (the biggest class today) and finishing with the Nostalgia Micro 2019 cars that qualified on Friday. Expect the reports to start around 12.30-ish...

*although not as much smoke as was coming out of Jeremy's Street Stock Veyron yesterday. There were flames on the warm-up bench! But it did go rather well...

Woodcote

Hearing about my car from you must be like receiving a headmasters report of your child at boarding school.

I've never seen my cars move, let along have any idea about their behaviour (or smoking habits!)

Who needs stencils when you can have the real thing.

AW Top Fuel & NHRA 4-Gear Qualifying

Two lots of qualifying in one...

Looks close again between me and Clive, but this time it's the FRAM dragster that gets TQ...

And straight on with the NHRA 4-Gear Funny Cars, Pro Stockers and Pro Mods...

That's a devastating TQ from Iain - still picking up speed through the line...

Top Fuel eliminators up next...

Andy, the good folks at Die Hard would probably like me to point out that I no longer race the Auto Club car. Sooo last season!

Well spotted! Yes, Alan is in the Auto Club colours this time...

AW Top Fuel - Round 1 & 2

With only six dragsters on the ladder, the winner of the first race was straight through to the final...

Top qualifier Andy duly dispatched Noah by 0.506 of a second, the winning ET 0.745.

Clive's Matco machine beat Dylan by a much closer 0.142 seconds. Clive's ET was 0.775, Dylan going a little faster than his qualifying best at 0.916.

The final first round race was between third and fourth qualifiers - Rebecca beating Alan by 0.065. Their ETs 0.786 and 0.837.

Round 2 - semi-final

Would Clive or Rebecca meet Andy in the final?

Clive's dragster pulled away an early advantage, but Rebecca stormed through the line... a glance at the scoreboard showed Rebecca had won by 0.006 seconds. A definite upset. The ETs were 0.763 for Rebecca and 0.773 for Clive. Rebecca would meet Andy in the final...

Top Fuel - Final

Two Top Fuelers ready to launch...

And this is what happened...

It looked like Andy was on for a comfortable win...

But Rebecca's Geico dragster had another late surge of speed...

Too late to take the win...

The FRAM machine gets into Victory Lane...

Here's the ladder...

And all the stats...

The NHRA 4-Gear race will follow around 2.30pm.

NHRA 4-Gear - Round 1 & 2

Eight cars are absolutely perfect for a full ladder - four first round races, two semis and a final...

Clive's lovely Red Bull car wasn't firing on all cylinders. Iain had it for breakfast - a winning margin of 0.339 seconds and an ET of 0.745 a good start for the Die Hard Funny Car.

Fourth and fifth qualifiers met in the second race. Jerome created a minor upset, winning by 0.018 seconds. The DHL Funny Car was away quickest and held on to that advantage. Jerome's ET was 0.839.

Alan beat David by 0.180 seconds, with a 0.828 ET.

And the final race saw Andy beat Doug by 0.068 seconds - the winning ET 0.860.

Round 2 - Semi-finals

The first half of the first semi-final was extremely close, Jerome having a small lead at half distance. Then Iain's car found a big burst of speed to win by 0.094 seconds - his ET 0.746. It was a devastating turn of speed.

Alan got the better start in the second semi-final and pulled away, winning by 0.070 seconds. His ET 0.835.

That put the top two qualifiers through to the final...

NHRA 4-Gear Final

The top two qualifiers lined up - Iain's Die Hard Funny Car vs Alan's Auto Club Funny Car...

This is what happened...

Alan was leading over the first third of the strip...

But Iain again found incredible speed over that final 4 feet...

To win by 0.070 seconds...

Congratulations to Iain on a dominant display!

Here's the NHRA 4-Gear ladder...

And all the stats...

Another break now... and we should be back around 4.30pm for the final two classes - Nostalgia Funny Car and Nostalgia Micro Scalextric 2019.
