Smileys
#1

I'm beginning to think that there is a scheme going around to ban the use of the Apple Mac for ever. First I get random changes in the layout of the headline pics and now I can't use smileys. They have changed to having a little check box before them which goes dark when clicked on but nothing will make the smiley appear in the text! Before, they just appeared on their own and were added normally!

PS. I just changed from Slotracer 2 (as it came originally) to 'default' and it now lists them with checkboxes AND a group of them to the left of the text box.

Most strange! Haven't seen them there before but.......they still won't work!

I'm not sure where you've found the "default" theme, as I didn't think there was one with that name. The only theme I'd recommend right now is called "Boxes", all the others are experimental.

I haven't actually changed anything on the forum for several weeks, so it's baffling why anything should be changing for you.

Just me probably! Default scheme is offered under CP and edit options.

Here is what I'm seeing!

I now have no option to insert the pics into the post, just a box saying 'remove'

I'll change it to 'boxes' and see if there is any change.

PS. Now in 'boxes'. It gives me the option of smileys to the left but still no response!

I'll restart and see what happens.

And.....in Safari, chrome and Firefox, I get the vertical version of Doug's pics as well.

After adding attachment....no insert option!

Restart had no effect at all.

All other websites I've tried today are acting normally. The 'vertical' bit rather worries me :-) It did happen before but mysteriously disappeared. Maybe this will too.

Apologies Gordon.

The fact that you're having problems in different browsers does at least rule out certain issues. But the fact that the issues change occasionally is baffling. It also doesn't help that I can't recreate any of the problems you're having.

When did things first start going wrong, and which browser do you normally use?

I use Vivaldi on MacOs 10.13.6.

This smiley problem only happened today. I did tell you about the headline pics problem but can't find the post now. It was at least a couple of weeks ago though. Strange that the other browsers still do that.

It's not the worst of problems having no smileys but including the attachments is a major problem of course although they still appear as thumbnails.

Who knows? Maybe tomorrow it will all be back to normal again. I reckon the computers are getting too complicated, maybe they are developing human like properties. Awkward, annoying, argumentative etc. etc!

Yes, I thought you said it was Vivaldi, so I've just checked the site out using it but no luck. By luck I mean getting the same problems.

My smileys are also above the reply box rather than to the left, which is confusing.

I remember you telling me about the stacked images, but I was kind of hoping that the fact you hadn't mentioned it again meant it had gone away.

Do you know anybody else who uses a Mac, and could you ask them if they get the stacked images? I might have access to a Mac briefly next week so I'll to sneak a look.

I'm now on Ronnie's Mac.

Using Opera. The headline pics are OK although it did start drawing them stacked and then reverted to banner type!

Still no Smileys available and no adding attachment into the post! This is an older Mac Mini running MacOs 10.6.8.

I was worried it was a problem with my Mac but clearly not, maybe just Macs in general?

Nuts, forgot and left the attachment on, can you remove it please?

Bugger!!!! I was hoping it was just your computer.

I guess we can probably count a few things out now. It's not browser related because you've tried several, and I've tried Vivaldi. It's unlikely to be your computer if you're getting the same problem on another.

It sounds like something at our end, but it used to work for you, and we haven't changed anything.

This is a real conundrum.

Hello Jason,
How about creating a test account with the "standard" settings and letting Gordon log in with that. That would indicate if it is his account settings or not.
