HRW Championship GT3 Proxy 2022 Event Potential Entry
#11

If axle bushings can be self-aligning, they can be self-mis-aligning, and the aim here is to reduce friction or the risk of binding as far as possible. So off with the self-aligning bushing claws...

...and on with the push fit (and to be glued later) oilite bushings...

This was just a first dry fit test. A bit more rubbing down of the pod required to smooth off the last remnants of the claws.

An hour of running a drill through the bushing holes using my fingers seems to have got them lined up properly, as the axle now runs cleanly in the bushings when I push them in place.

Just arrived in the post from Shapeways...

Aligns perfectly with the body I will be running, but it will need a bit of fettling to get the Scaleauto pod to fit cleanly.

I will be joining up again with the series next season. Glad to see you making a run at it!

The tech threads that go along with the racing are some of the best on the internet, and it makes it really fun.

Zack

Welcome to my humble thread!

Absolutely right about the Proxy build threads, if it wasn't for those, the art of race car builds would be even more of a mystery to me than it still is at the moment!

But for me, the best way to learn it to ask questions, give it a try and progress from what you have experienced, and that's all I'm trying to illustrate here.

As I like to say to people at work "It's always quicker the second time"

So the pod I prepared did not have a big enough offset once I tried the body on the chassis, too much ride height at the rear; so back to the workbench...

Pod no.2 (0.75mm offset)

Off with it's nose...

Off with it's claws...

In with the bushings...

And into the chassis...

Now, where was I...

Back onto the build, as I want to run it on my test track next weekend to compare it with my Brighton/John O'Groats Road Race Bentley.

So glued in the bushings using my patent press tool...

I have spent many hours analysing the motor/gearing choices of this years cars and have chosen my power train based around best practice/gut instinct. So motor, gears, spacers and stoppers installed on the pod, and pod installed into the Slot.it 3D printed chassis using the MR Slotcar fitting kit...

Et voila...

Stance looks good. Staffs wheels look great, and looking forward to gluing the N22s on and spending some quality time on the Hudy this weekend!

just noticed this
seriously been looking at this HRW event for a while
great thread and great info , thanx BARacer
i have already researched the car and everything else i would use ( frantically saving the pennies )
think i need a few more proxies under my belt 1st though
but 2022 could be a possibility
same as you though , i do not have access to a wood track to do any testing , so the idea is on the back burner atm
hopefully lockdown will end soon and we all can access clubs again ( and i can actually join one !!!!! )
and maybe then my research can become reality

Welcome on board Kev!

I think the entry deadline is late Autumn for the next series.

The way I see it is that all the clues are there regarding what everyone is using, you just have sort the wheat from the chaff and jump in with your best guess.

My donor car is a £18 eBay Scalextric Aston Martin, but the rest of the parts obviously add to the cost. The trick seems to be to keep it simple, but be very thorough with your build and preparation...which I thought was a great way for me to learn about this hobby.

And it helps when you have someone like Harvey offering advice and encouragement from the sidelines!
