Emergency and Support Services vehicles
#51

Hi Richard,

Super nice collection.

I'm not so sure that a Plymouth Superbird Hemi Stock-Car could be considered a Police car. If one ever pulled me over. I would be inclined to want the drivers autograph for getting away with driving an all out race car on the street. It would sure be a cool experience.  Bigsmile

Another year and another Scalextric Alfa Romeo 159

A Carrera Audi R8 Le Mans Safety car

A Fly Corvette C5r Indy500 Pace car

A very ropey looking Ferrari 355 Pace Car. check out the fit of the windows! Think this is Proslot. I've got a couple more Proslot cars and they're just as bad.

Scalextric Starsky & Hutch Ford Torino. Including it because it's pretty much a police car. Well it's got a flashing roof light anywhay. At least I think it flashes. I've got one of these sitting in it's box unused, and another one that gets hooned around the track whenever my son and I fancy a Starsky & Hutch vs Dukes of Hazzard type race.

Another Ninco Mercedes Benz CLK safety car, this time DTM but other wise identical to the F1 one.

This Carrera Plymouth Roadrunner Highway Patrol... at the time these were selling for up to £100 brand new & boxed, I got this one for just over £20. It was one of those ebay auctions that finished mid morning on a Tuesday and I seemed to be the only person hovering over the bid button when it finished so got a right barg. It was used and unboxed with a bit of damage, I think a replacement roof light and missing its bull bars/front bumper. So this gets used a lot on the track, I must be one of very few people who use one of these in anger. £20 very well spent!

Just for good measure I picked up another version 2 Scalextric Rover Police car

And finally for 2011, a couple of Pink Car Beetles.

The following year I managed to get hold of the matching Pink Car Doctors Beetle

I picked up the newly releases Scalextric Subaru Impreza Police car

and their Mini panda car

I got a couple of Carrera safety cars, an Audi R8 and a Mercedes SLS

I got a nice SCX Seat Leon safety car

Got a couple of odd/interesting cars too, Seat 600 Servico car, which I think is either SCX or maybe Reprotec.

A BumSlot Renault Trafic Fire Brigade truck with opening rear doors and removable water pump.

A Fleischmann Porsche 911 police car, which has since made its way to another member here.

And finally an awesome Skoda Favorit police car, I think bought from the 2012 Slot Festival. I also bought the matching Favorit taxi. Never seen any others since. Without checking the box I can't recall the make but not one I've heard of before. Not used them but they feel like nice solid durable slot cars.

2013 was a lean year for Emergency and Support vehicles, with just these four bought:

Carrera Carforce Raptor. No idea what this is all about, but they seem quite thin on the ground as I've only seen one or two for sale since buying this.

Scalextric MG Maestro Police. Like most of the Maestros available I'm not sure of the origin of this (only one MG Maestro ever featured in Scalextric catalogues but there are several versions available) but there are a handful of these police conversions out there, and I've seen photos of black Police ones about too but so far never seen a black one for sale. One day hopefully..!

Scalextric Vauxhall Vectra Jersey Police. I think this is deemed to be the rarest of the Vectra Police cars, so I was lucky to find this going cheap(ish) on eBay.

And finally a Ninco Golf Police to compliment the other one. Again seen this for sale fairly often but finally found it going cheaply (about £20 brand new boxed I recall) so went for it.

2014 was a bit of a special year for my collection of Emergency vehicles. I'd had a thread like this one running on Slotforum for a 3 or 4 years and a fellow member FZSemans had posted photos of his Carrera Plymouth Roadrunner Police in blue and white, a special very limited edition of the black and white one I bought the year before, made for a store in Germany I think. Being a fan of 70s British Leyland stuff the yellow Scalextrc Rover 3500 Marshal car had also caught my eye, and the old Scalextric Aston Martin Marshal car was also on my radar but all three were expensive in good boxed condition as they were rare and sought after.

A couple of years later I got a message from FZSemans to say he was thinning his collection and would I like the blue and white Roadrunner Police, on the basis it was for keeps and I wouldn't sell it on for a quick profit. So I got this, and a couple of other hard to find Carrera cars for a fair bit less that their value at the time. Yes I've still got it, and it will probably be one of the last cars I ever get rid of. I know I'd never be able to afford to get another one, and it's also sort of a reminder of the kindness of strangers on the internet who just happen to share a hobby!

If that wasn't enough, later in the year another SF member, LooseSalute, contacted me to say he was getting rid of a number of Scalextric cars including the Aston Martin and Rover 3500 Marshal cars and did I want them? Obvs I said yes and so within a few months I'd got hold of all three cars that were top of my wish list.

The Maestro cars were a limited edition commissioned from Hornby by Steve DeHavilland in 1991 and were initially offered to members of the NSCC. Unsold ones were then available at swapmeets. They were produced in red, black, green, yellow and white. Steve converted quite a few white ones to police versions so they are occasionally available. A very small number of black police versions were made (2 or 3 only) so they are like the proverbial rocking horse poo.

That wasn't all for 2014, plenty more added to the emergency car collection. I bought a couple of Proslot Alfa 159s, a Police and a Fire one, and thery're as badly detailed as their Ferrari Pace car bought previously.

Carrera produced yet another Audi R8 support vehicle, this time a Polizei version.

Cerrara's choice of safety vehicle for this year was the Ferrari 458

I also picked up a couple of weird Argentina made vac-form bodied trucks from a brand called, from memory, Tormoslot. A Ford  and a Unimog recovery vehicle.

I also found this delightful Mercedes Benz 230sl. Manufacturers slips my mind.

I then did a cheeky mash up between a couple of Scalextric Challenger pace car Mercedes Benz CLK bodies bought from Pendles bargain bucket and a couple of unused CLKs bought on eBay because it was proving impossible to find unused examples of both Silver and Black versions of the Challenger pace car sets.

And finally I bought this Marklin Porsche 911 Police at the Slot Festival at Gaydon. I really like it, and the box is a delightful piece of design.

Thanks both. It's sort of happened by accident. I started buying Police cars not really intending to keep them necessarily, but then buying Scalextric catalogues and books and seeing that Scalextric had produced quite a few different police cars over the years, so then looking out for those, and then spotting police and safety cars from other manufacturers, and then things sort of gathering  momentum. A lot of these get bought, photographed and then hidden safely in boxes in the loft so this is the closest I've got to seeing them all together, and yes I'm also quite impressed by the range here!

I've been buying/collecting slot cars for over 15 years and I suppose like a lot of others here I certainly wouldn't be willing/able to afford to buy many of these if I started now... there's definitely something in collecting that's about being in the right place at the right time, those little out of hours checks on eBay to see what others have missed, being at a swapmeet and discovering just the car you've been hunting for lying hidden just out of view.
Anyway, more to come...
