I don't do nothing. There are a zillion things to do. Music, books, cooking, walking, drawing and painting etc. Doing just one thing would drive me potty.
Humans seem to have become more and more acquisitive. I am spending my days getting rid of stuff. This time, when we move, we are going to reduce the amount of 'stuff' we have to sensible levels. When I see the number of things that haven't been looked at and enjoyed within the last year it makes me wonder why the hell we have them. A sale is in progress here and I am 'collecting' lots of money to put towards making our new house comfortable for the next stage of our old age.
As ever, I can only speak for myself. You are free to collect as much as you like. I'm surprised at your use of the word though. Collecting hardly applies to money if it's intended for survival. Storing it up in the bank like scrooge is a whole different ball game.

If we don't collect money. We have nothing for retirement.
To recycle cars simply means your collection has a limited number. You still collect slot cars. Either 5 or 20. The number past one car really doesn't matter. Does it?

I didn't suggest that collecting per se was a bad thing, merely that I didn't want to be one.
You are splitting hairs, not sure why you appear upset with my use of the word. Yes I would be a collector if I had two centimes according to your definition but not by mine. I have more than two chairs but it doesn't make me a collector of chairs as they all get used for something rather than just sit there to be admired for just sitting there.

Gordon. The written word is missleading. I consider you a friend. I totally respect you 100%. If we were sitting in a coffee shop duing this conversation. I would be smiling at you while speaking. I'm yanking on your chain and teasing you because you always lay it out there to be pulled.
We can try to put labels on ourself. But in the end our actions say who we are. Does your wife think you are a slot car collector? I have a funny feeling that she does. Cheers!
P.S. I look forward to beating the crap out of every one of my cars racing in a very active club (before Covid). Out of all my cars so far. The MGB is the only one that didn't didn't survive hitting the floor. Oops.

My wife would give me hell if she thought I was collecting anything.
It took a while before she accepted the fact that I keep reading the same books. I reminded her that she listens to the same piece of music more than once and even plays the same tune on the saxophone often (too bloody often if you ask me

) I have cleared out about 500 books this week though - collector me?

Nah, they all get read regularly
My chain has been pulled too often round here. It's suffering from fatigue but I expect it will recover. The written word on the forum can be amended with some smileys though!

My friend Gordon. I humbly apologize if I offended you.
You tend to deny it a lot. That leads to being bugged about it by friends. If someone suggested you might be a collector and you reacted with "whatever you say". All teasing might instantly stop. It's human nature.
Anyone can call me anything they like and I'll probably agree and laugh. So long as it's not something bad.
You are a great scratch-builder.
Cheers,
Ken

Yeah but it only gets scratched when I've a race to run
You haven't offended me. I'm probably too tired from all the house clearing to judge what's going on - I need a drink. I get teased by everybody, why should you be any different

.............
We may have to do the move ourselves and so are having to weigh everything to make sure we can get it all in the sort of van/lorry I'm qualified to drive. Another reason to have a giant clear out. As we are downsizing, we need to dump stuff anyway. We do, however, fancy changing from our very much French influenced heavy furniture to something modern and minimalist.
Must find an Eames chair for music and reading. I think the Chinese do a good replica.

Hi Gordon ,if you want to downsize a 1\32 Chappy I can " collect " it for you
So your move is definitely on ? Good luck with all that I believe it is one of the most stressful things you can do .
When we moved to where we are now ,I did most of it in a VW polo and just borrowed a van for the very big stuff .
Stay safe
Steve
