Morris J Van
#91

My humble apologies for the re-direct.

Back to the topic at hand.

J-van chassis runs, and it's quite fast. It just needs to be mounted to the body.

Body mounting options.

RS Slots 14x5 wheels. Urethane tires (glued and trued). Professor Motor hardened axles, Oilite bushings, competition 1mm braid, CH10 guide, competition motor wire, 27T crown gear. Scalex FF 050 18K motor with 9T pinion. Independent front wheels.

2 x 4-40 brass inserts, 4-40 countersunk screws with #227 Evergreen styrene tubing and 2 x 5"inch lengths of 0.070" carbon fiber rods.

Is it just me, or can everyone see the shape of the van in the profile of the chassis?

Nice touch Ken, it can't be a coincidence!

I love puttering with gears

Great chassis ,just one point though ,will the front vertical body mount interfere with any cab detail .

I think that's exactly why Ken has thoughtfully provided the horizontal rods as an alternative.

Having said that, on the real thing the engine compartment protrudes a fair way into the cab, just to the left of the driver, so it may be possible to glue a containing box to the body, with the body post inside.

Jason ,that would be a good idea ,would stop a lot of body float too .
How's the casting process coming along ,are you tho king of slush casting or a two part mould ?

Jason. You put a lot of work into SlotRacer. You are most welcome.  Thumbup

Fluff. I have not seen the inside of the van. I have no idea what to suggest for body mounts so I provided several ways. The tall sides can also be used to mount the body in some fashion.

Jeremy. It's a fluke. The tall sides were left on because I had no idea how Jason was going to mount the body. Mind you it's not like we're building the next record breaking slot car. The extra weight of the sides won't make it lose a race against another J-van or anything.  Bigsmile

I haven't given it a thought yet. Rofl Rofl Rofl Rofl

I've got a couple of things that are taking up all my spare time at the moment, so it may be a while before I can get started. It's also freezing up here, and since I'll have to do everything out in the shed, I reckon it will be better for me and the casting if I wait until it warms up a bit.

Basically, don't hold your breath.

Forgot to say, I'm going to try slush casting it first, as there are a couple of strengthening panels at the front and back of the floor panels, which would make getting an internal mould out impossible.

I could cut them out, but I'm reluctant as the one thing I really don't want to risk is damaging Gordon's lovely model.

I made it on the assumption that you would do a slush cast. It didn't really occur to me that you would attempt the internal mould as well!
