Race results and report - 8th August 2024 - Group 5 followed by TV/Film cars bonus race
.
We had a great turnout tonight, a ton of different cars seen in practice, saloons, proxy cars, F1’s, GT’s, American Muscle, small sports and of course the stars of tonights show the TV/Film cars.
During the racing we did wonder who suggested it but judging by the sheer number of cars seen we obviously like this theme.
.
Group 5
.
Seven Group 5 cars…all Racer Sideways cars, some standard, some modified and some on metal chassis.
.
As far as Standard Class cars go, Geoff has been the one to beat in 2024…but how would his BMW go at 12V…it would seem he hasn’t got up to speed with it but he will.
Chris’s Skyline was going round quicker than Geoff’s BMW but not as quick as Kev’s BMW. The Skyline going particularly well this year, it takes time for the tyres to ‘come in’.
.
Modified Class was between Brian’s Capri and Ed’s Porsche, Brian still trying to find where on earth the performance is hiding in his once superfast Capri and Ed doing well with what on paper would be an awkward handling car with it’s short wheelbase.
.
Open Class between Mike & Andy was quick, Andy’s Skyline which I don’t think has raced before was too quick for Mike’s Capri but the Capri was one of the fastest cars on the track.
.
TV/Film Cars (bonus races)
.
Mostly ‘Back 2 Basics’ standard Scalextric TV/Film cars with minimal tuning allowed (guide, tyres, ballast) produced some amazing racing. OK the basic cars aren’t quick but the idea of giving bonuses for various standard parts and race bonuses depending on your hot lap in each lane means anyone can win…
.
TV/Film cars seen on track tonight before racing started:
Batman 1989 (old version and new version)
Thunderbirds FAB1
Batman 2022
Knight Rider K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R.
Dukes of Hazzard General Lee
James Bond Lotus
Blues Brothers Bluesmobile
Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino
Back to the Future Delorean
If you like close racing, Heat #4 - Brian’s General Lee, Ed’s Batman 1989 (old version) and Geoff’s Bluesmobile crossed the finish line less than half a lap apart, Ed’s Batmobile was the only car that didn’t deslot…and won the heat too!
.
As far as close on-track results go, Andy’s Batman 1989 (new version…it’s HUGE!) only finished 0.02 of a lap ahead (just over a tenth of a second) of Kev's Knightrider KARR.
Then Geoff’s Bluesmobile only finished 0.004 of a lap ahead of Chris’s 007 Lotus (about 3 hundredths of a second…those tyres made an amazing difference!).
.
But who won?...once the bonuses were awarded and race bonuses added it was Geoff’s Bluesmobile slightly ahead of Kev’s K.A.R.R.followed by Chris’s 007 Lotus and Ed’s Batmobile.
.
Mike again said “I like racing at 12V”...it’s added something to the racing, Brian said it’s been a revelation
…and I must admit that new Batman 1989 will probably find it’s way into other club members shopping baskets when Rails of Sheffield put them on special offer (currently 10% off at £49)
