Emergency and Support Services vehicles

Service van for the Esso sponsored Grifone team supporting Fabrizio Tabaton.  The song "Goldfinger" kept ringing in my ears so I could not resist the golden jack. (No relation to the Corgi Toys product)

Hello Ken,
I don't think we got that TV series in the UK, so I wrongly thought it may have been a post-Broderick Crawford era "Highway Patrol".

Cool !

That's a nice service van, Leo.
The Grifone mechanics are in " Esso Super Oil" style dressed as well.
Well done.

My humble apologies Leo. I should have stated the details.

The car was made in honour of Barney Fife (played by Don Knotts). Comedic side-kick to Andy Griffith from the "Andy Griffith Show" that was shown on black&white TV in North America from 1960 to 1968.

Did I just date myself or what?? Crap, I'm old...

Well as Broderick Crawford used to say "Ten, Four".   I think that is when I realised that the USA was a bit different from Scotland !

I just had a chuckle looking up Broderick Crawford... From the TV series Highway Patrol from 1955 to 1959? That pre-dates the Andy Griffith show!

And I thought I was old.  Bigsmile

By the way, I'm from Canada where police officers carry a life saving flask of pure maple syrup instead of a weapon. Just in case you run into some fresh pancakes!

Chuck Norris is from USA, and can do a wheelie on a unicycle!  Thumbup

I don't have any more recent Police/emergency cars to post on here, at least until I take photos of 2020 purchases, but I thought I'd go back to the beginning of my collecting and post up what I bought in the order I got them. So to start with, my earlier childhood dalliances with Scalextric cars didn't include any police cars but I always had a desire for one of the Rover 3500s, especially a Police one. I obviously grew out of slot cars and into other things before I'd saved up my money for one. So when I came back to slot cars after finding eBay in about 2004 I bought this one.

EDIT: There's an attached image below I can't get rid of, when I try to full edit the post and click 'Remove' next to the list of attachments it just publishes the post on here again with it still attached. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Obviously been a long time since I've posted any photos on here! Could a mod please remove it please.

The following year I bought this Scalextric Sierra police car. It was very yellow, but I was less picky in those days and had a strict policy of only spending up to £10 on an unboxed car, so ended up buying several ropey versions of cars that I replaced with better ones later on when I realised the error of my ways.

The following year I bout this For Crown Victoria, which was a set only model from the recently released Batman set.  Big disappointment when it arrived, and I learned a harsh lesson about scale as it was tiny, not much bigger than micro scalextric size, and was no fun on the track because it has such a strong magnet it would go round at top speed needing no skill from me.

2006 was the year I broke my 'one a year' pace of buying police cars when I also got this Scalextric Focus too. This was more like it, brilliant fun on the track, not fast but nice and slidey.
