Race report and results - 9th  April 2026 - ‘50’s - 70’s Goodwood’ (formerly known as ‘50’s & 60’s Monsters & Minis’)

.
As it turned out that a few of us didn’t have either a small Saloon or large Saloon from the 50’s & 60’s a couple of us realised that tonight's event had more of a Goodwood vibe so that’s what it’ll be going forwards ‘50's-60's-70's Goodwood' - for small Saloons and hard top GT's - large Saloons - plus Sport prototypes and open top GT's.
  •  It is hoped you will support both large and small classes so that this doesn't morph into another large Sport only event.
.
We had two rounds of racing with the car classes mixed to make it more interesting, we had ‘Monsters’ and ‘Minis’ in the same heat a few times and the big Saloons didn’t always finish in front!
.
Five classes of cars with the two most popular being ‘Open Class Big Saloons’ and ‘Open Class Small Saloons & hardtop GT’s’.
.
Mike often turns up with something ‘different’ and tonight was one of those times with the smallest and largest cars of the night.  The tiny Clan Crusader dwarfed by the monstrous Oldsmobile Toronado but good runs on Red and Yellow lanes put him second behind Andy’s Mini in class…
…expect more Toronados in the near future!... even on the Rally stages!! (good luck with that).
.
Jamie had the option to borrow a Mini but wanted to race his own cars, a recently acquired Ninco Corvette C1 in Briggs Cunningham colours was then acquired by Mike right after its debut race night.
A ‘borrowed’ (this one is more like a permanent borrow) Ford Galaxie 500 ‘lightweight’ drifted round the track at warp speeds (I think he likes this car).
.
Geoff raced his trusty Mini and Mustang with the Mini out-scoring the Mustang in Blue lane.  The Mustang was flying in Yellow lane racing Chris’s black Camaro.  The Mini lost a couple of laps in Yellow lane and should have been on the same lap as Mike’s Clan.
.
Kev raced his Anglia and Mk7 Jag, the big Jag looking a little small next to Mike’s Toronado but dwarfing Geoff’s Mini.  The Anglia had a good race with Chris’s Camaro and Geoff’s Mustang and punches well above it’s weight.
.
Paul did a quick wheel swap to get his second car ready, a Pioneer Mustang (Steve McQueen Bullitt car) and a SlotIt Ford GT40 as a 60’s Sport prototype (we’ll probably see more GT40’s in this next time).
Paul was the only one to race an upgraded standard car which is to be applauded as you don’t need racing specials to enjoy a good race.
.
Andy was another who had to rummage through his boxes to find suitable cars, he didn’t want to race ‘Le Monstre’ this time and found his Mustang in a second box.  The Minisprint was his Small Saloon of choice, another Small Saloon that bullies the big cars.
.
Chris brought the black Camaro out of retirement and it’s a great runner, one mistake and you’ll struggle to catch up again.  His Small hardtop GT was an E-type Jag, a nice runner but needs driving tentatively with a best run in Yellow lane.

…enjoy the two videos!

Race report and results - 23rd  April 2026 -
.
Holidays, work and injury kept a few away this week, with Dave turning up with a surprise box (more later!) we had seven cars on track in tonights two events.
.
Saloons

.
  • One Small Saloon (Kev’s Anglia)
  • Three Saloons (Chris’s Peugeot 205, Paul’s Rover SD1, Dave’s Ford Galaxie 500)
  • Three Group 5 Saloons (Brian’s Capri, Geoff’s BMW 320i, Mike’s Capri)
.
The races were a good mix of classes (Small Saloon, Saloon, Group 5 Saloon).

.
Sports

.
  • Two Small Sports (Geoff’s Jaguar XK120, Mike’s Porsche 904)
  • Four Sports (Brian’s Mosler, Kev’s Ford GT40, Paul’s Audi R8C, Dave’s Porsche 956)
  • One Group 5 (Chris’s Lancia Stratos)
.
Again, another good mix of classes (Small Sports, Sports, Group 5 Sports)

.
It was good to see so many Group 5 cars on track tonight, once a class all on it’s own, now separated into Saloons and Sports to race cars from other eras.  It’s also good to see the small classes appearing regularly.
.
A funny thing happened tonight, when I arrived at the club earlier and getting everything ready, I thought about one of the newer club members saying they didn’t have cars for all the classes and in my mind I thought “just bring what you have and we’ll find a class it can fit in, what could you possibly bring that doesn’t fit our classes”...
…lo and behold, Dave turns up with Mike and they open a box filled with F1 slot sidecars… yes, a perfect example of a vehicle that doesn’t fit any of our classes, haha!
The upshot is, after having a test drive on the track, those of us who took up the offer of a drive were very impressed indeed and orders have already been placed…
…F1 Slot Sidecars will be added to our regular racing calendar in due course.

Next week is Club BMW 320i Group 5 followed by F1 (including Grand Prix, Prewing F1 and Classic F1)

Race report and results - 30th  April 2026 -
.
A sudden rush of club members and racers made for a good turnout tonight which also meant a good mix of car classes for Grand Prix & F1.
.
Before the racing, the SRF Sidecars were brought out again for those who missed them last week.
More testing was done, more club members were impressed and a few more have been ordered.
Once we have enough built up for at least one heat of them, I’ll shoehorn ‘F1 Sidecars’ into the rest of the race calendar as an extra class alongside one of the other classes.
.
Club BMW Group 5

.
“One of these cars isn’t like the others”... oh yes, we remember now, we had to use the spare car and that has a Pioneer motor (this turned out to be the Blue car).
…well that added jeopardy for everyone in that you had to drive the Blue car hard to get a good heat score, meanwhile the fast Yellow car had to be held back to get a good heat score.
.
We saw three heats where two cars finished less than half a lap apart for the heat win whilst overall fastest laps were very close as eight drivers managed a best lap time within 12 hundredths of a second of each other!

Club car racing has always been about consistency and ‘keeping it in the slot’ (plus a bit of luck).
.
Grand Prix & F1

.
Five F1’s raced each other (in heat order) - Brian H, Matthew, Chris, Dave, Mike
Four Grand Prix, Prewing F1, Classic F1 raced each other (in heat order) - Kev, Paul, Brian L, Geoff
.
The four narrower cars had the cleanest races and we had all three classes represented:
  • Paul - Cartrix Aston Martin DBR4 in Grand Prix
  • Kev - Scalextric Lotus 24 in Prewing F1
  • Brian L & Geoff - Policar Ferrari 312 B2 in Classic F1
It was great to see a couple of Policar Classic F1’s racing each other, I can’t remember the last time we’ve seen this.
Geoff tried to convince Brian the reason his Ferrari was slower was because it needs the vital downforce given by the missing rear wing…
Three super consistent runs for Geoff’s Ferrari kept him well clear of Brian’s similar car.
.
Kev’s been working on a Lotus 24 for a proxy later in the year and it went much better than expected, whilst not as quick as the wider F1’s, only one minor incident meant three good runs with minimal loss of time and ended up top of the overall results.
.
Paul has two favourite cars for F1 night, this time it was the Aston Martin DBR4 to see race action with three consistent runs.
.
The much wider F1 races saw a trio of NSR F1’s, a Scalextric Jordan and a Scalextric Dallara Indy car.
  • Chris, Dave & Mike - NSR F1
  • Brian H - Scalextric Jordan
  • Matthew - Scalextric Dallara Indy
Brian H bravely raced a standard Scalextric Jordan and it goes surprisingly well actually.
.
Matthew started racing a Dallara, swapped cars to the Scalextric Jordan in his second race and finished with Geoff’s NSR F1.
.
A bit too close at times in the tight esses as wheels interlocking caused a few ‘offs’ plus that pesky tight right-left in Red lane caused Dave’s F1 a few issues but he did end up with fastest lap of the night.
.
The evening racing finished with the closest race of the Chris & Mike’s NSR F1’s on the same lap

.
Overall we saw a much wider range of performance from these cars but they were great to watch and racing them was enjoyed by most.
.
At the end of the night, Brian presented the ‘50p Trophy’ for best notable performance of the night, to Dave.  Nice one Dave.

 —------------------------

Next week is Saloons (including Small Saloons and Group 5 Saloons) followed by TV & Film Cars.
Most of the regular club members have a Scalextric TV & Film car, if you haven’t got one, bring a Scalextric Saloon of some type, standard spec like the TV & Film cars (no magnets).  Standard Class Rally cars will be OK.
Also, the TV & Film cars will race as they are, no bonuses for lights, standard interiors etc.  It’s not a serious class so no ‘racing specials’ or pro cars please.
…any car deemed ‘faster than standard’ will automatically be classified as ‘Modified’
