Race report and results - 30th April 2026 -
.
A sudden rush of club members and racers made for a good turnout tonight which also meant a good mix of car classes for Grand Prix & F1.
.
Before the racing, the SRF Sidecars were brought out again for those who missed them last week.
More testing was done, more club members were impressed and a few more have been ordered.
Once we have enough built up for at least one heat of them, I’ll shoehorn ‘F1 Sidecars’ into the rest of the race calendar as an extra class alongside one of the other classes.
.
Club BMW Group 5
.
“One of these cars isn’t like the others”... oh yes, we remember now, we had to use the spare car and that has a Pioneer motor (this turned out to be the Blue car).
…well that added jeopardy for everyone in that you had to drive the Blue car hard to get a good heat score, meanwhile the fast Yellow car had to be held back to get a good heat score.
.
We saw three heats where two cars finished less than half a lap apart for the heat win whilst overall fastest laps were very close as eight drivers managed a best lap time within 12 hundredths of a second of each other!
Club car racing has always been about consistency and ‘keeping it in the slot’ (plus a bit of luck).
.
Grand Prix & F1
.
Five F1’s raced each other (in heat order) - Brian H, Matthew, Chris, Dave, Mike
Four Grand Prix, Prewing F1, Classic F1 raced each other (in heat order) - Kev, Paul, Brian L, Geoff
.
The four narrower cars had the cleanest races and we had all three classes represented:
- Paul - Cartrix Aston Martin DBR4 in Grand Prix
- Kev - Scalextric Lotus 24 in Prewing F1
- Brian L & Geoff - Policar Ferrari 312 B2 in Classic F1
It was great to see a couple of Policar Classic F1’s racing each other, I can’t remember the last time we’ve seen this.
Geoff tried to convince Brian the reason his Ferrari was slower was because it needs the vital downforce given by the missing rear wing…
Three super consistent runs for Geoff’s Ferrari kept him well clear of Brian’s similar car.
.
Kev’s been working on a Lotus 24 for a proxy later in the year and it went much better than expected, whilst not as quick as the wider F1’s, only one minor incident meant three good runs with minimal loss of time and ended up top of the overall results.
.
Paul has two favourite cars for F1 night, this time it was the Aston Martin DBR4 to see race action with three consistent runs.
.
The much wider F1 races saw a trio of NSR F1’s, a Scalextric Jordan and a Scalextric Dallara Indy car.
- Chris, Dave & Mike - NSR F1
- Brian H - Scalextric Jordan
- Matthew - Scalextric Dallara Indy
Brian H bravely raced a standard Scalextric Jordan and it goes surprisingly well actually.
.
Matthew started racing a Dallara, swapped cars to the Scalextric Jordan in his second race and finished with Geoff’s NSR F1.
.
A bit too close at times in the tight esses as wheels interlocking caused a few ‘offs’ plus that pesky tight right-left in Red lane caused Dave’s F1 a few issues but he did end up with fastest lap of the night.
.
The evening racing finished with the closest race of the Chris & Mike’s NSR F1’s on the same lap
.
Overall we saw a much wider range of performance from these cars but they were great to watch and racing them was enjoyed by most.
.
At the end of the night, Brian presented the ‘50p Trophy’ for best notable performance of the night, to Dave. Nice one Dave.

Next week is Saloons (including Small Saloons and Group 5 Saloons) followed by TV & Film Cars.
Most of the regular club members have a Scalextric TV & Film car, if you haven’t got one, bring a Scalextric Saloon of some type, standard spec like the TV & Film cars (no magnets). Standard Class Rally cars will be OK.
Also, the TV & Film cars will race as they are, no bonuses for lights, standard interiors etc. It’s not a serious class so no ‘racing specials’ or pro cars please.
…any car deemed ‘faster than standard’ will automatically be classified as ‘Modified’
