MSCC 2023 Race results & reports etc.

Race reports - 10th August - Saloon plus Sports

A good turnout of club members and visitors tonight, eight racers meant a 3+5 split.

SALOON

Five of us entering the Saloon Car Proxy that starts next month decided to have a final test session and raced our proxy cars.  Bearing in mind these all have a minimum ground clearance of 1.5mm, maximum motor power of 22k, 10mm wide tyres and cut down shallowed guides, they’re not slow cars, in fact only fractionally slower than the usual choice of cars for this class.
We saw cars never raced in this class before and boy were there some faces full of concentration desperately trying to squeeze more speed from these ‘underpowered’ cars, it was a joy to watch actually.
The ‘proxy cars’ - Kev’s Carrera Audi RS5, Andy’s Scaley Rover SD1, Ed’s Ninco Opel Calibra, Geoff’s SlotIt Opel Calibra and Brian’s Arii Nissan Skyline R32, a real mishmash of cars with not a huge difference between most of them.
Strangely and a pleasant surprise to see Kev, Andy, Geoff & Brian all going so well in what’s normally the difficult Red lane…maybe there’s something in this slow motor malarkey.
Ed’s Opel was blasting round Blue lane, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him drive so well before and easily won his first heat in that lane…then followed that up by really struggling in Red lane, it’s a difficult lane to find a good flow especially the couple of very tight corners.

As one of those racing a proxy car I’d say they’re easy to drive and being underpowered seem to look after the rear tyres much better, precisely what you want to see on a proxy car.

Of the other guys racing, Mike B raced a large Broadspeed Jaguar XJ12C, Nigel raced a standard SlotIt Opel Calibra and Mike H raced a standard Spirit Peugeot 406.  Mike’s Jag has been seen in racing action before but a few years ago now at the old clubroom, was very difficult to get past in the tight chicane (ask Brian) - It will have a new chassis soon, a KRB-3D jobbie.
Mike H has stuck with the Peugeot 406 coupe for a while, this was for a long time THE car to race in Saloon, seemed to suffer with thru’ppeny bit front tyres but went really well in Yellow lane.
Heat #3 - Nigel racing Brian’s Opel in Blue lane, set his fastest lap, no deslots and his first heat win…was awarded the 50p trophy by Brian for this week.

Wins in heat order for Ed, Andy, Nigel, Kev, Geoff & Mike H

SPORTS

After what was a brilliant set of Saloon car races we got the quick cars out…this is usually mostly occupied by Standard class NSR Moslers but tonight saw three non-Molsers.  Mike H didn’t want a Mosler like everyone else so races a Mclaren 720S and he’s set it up to go nicely…they say you can’t beat proper preparation as a spinning pinion put paid to the Mclarens full racing schedule and made way for a Gulf coloured Porsche Kremer which is a wee bit slower but finishes races.
Ed’s Jag XJR9 was hopping and grinding in practice, some car setup tweaks by the ‘Deadhead Crew’ transformed it into a smooth operator…those rear tyres are rather good, the originals that came with it years ago apparently.
Geoff & Brian racing standard NSR Moslers racing for that last tenth of a lap has become a feature this year but which one was going to end up ahead this time…Geoff marginally ahead on Red lane, Brian grabbing the best part of a lap back on Yellow lane but Geoff’s race on Blue lane was too much for Brian’s Mosler overall.
Meanwhile just behind them both was Mike B’s Mosler…lost two laps with major deslots in Blue lane so could have been so much closer.
Kev normally races the ‘Copper Rocket’ Mosler but tonight chose to race a SlotIt Audi R18…LMP’s are never the best cars to race but this one has been worked on and goes surprisingly well…especially in Blue lane as the tyres had polished, raced neck-and-neck with Andy’s Porsche 917 for a few laps before the Porsche had a deslot then never caught up again as the Audi seemed dialled in and surprisingly set the fastest lap of the night.
Nigel racing a standard NSR Mosler matched Ed’s Jaguar on single lap pace but Ed’s consistency won the day between these two.

Heat wins in heat order for Ed, Andy & Kev

What a brilliant night of racing, probably the best Saloon and Sports night we’ve had at Riverside.  So are slower motors the way forwards…I’m not going to say no, in fact one or two cars will be revisited!

Next week is Italian cars night

The AGM is slowly but surely creeping up on us (end of October) if you have any proposals, take note of them because I’ll be asking for them to be included in the agenda in a week or so’s time.
The race calendar for 2024 will be discussed in the weeks after the AGM as we have plenty of time to tweak it if necessary.

Race reports - 17th August - Italian Cars Handicap Race

Ferrari…Lamborghini…Maserati…Alfa Romeo…DeTomaso…Fiat
We saw most of those in practice and some during racing.

No qually tonight, each drivers quickest lap on Red lane being used for the handicaps, the closest to their predicted score declared the winner.

We raced two rounds so had the option of racing two different cars or the same car twice.

As there were only five of us we raced in two’s except the final heat which was three cars with Ed racing in both final heats of the night so we had two marshals capable of running around.

Round 1

The racing didn’t get close until Round #1 Heat #6 as Andy - Ferrari 458 (Yellow) and Kev - Lamborghini Murcielago (Blue) finished less than 3 seconds apart, both drivers setting their fastest laps of the night with the Ferrari winning the heat.

Then we had an interesting final race in Heat #7 as Geoff - Ferrari 512 BBLM (Red) Ed -Ferrari 412P (Yellow) and Brian Ferrari 365 P2 (Blue).  Ed’s 412P set the fastest lap, Geoff’s 512BBLM was the most consistent and whilst Brian’s 365P2 had easily the quickest motor of the three but couldn’t safely navigate past slower cars and ended up in the scenery…the cars finishing the race in that order.

Round 2

Ed & Geoff opted to race the same car they raced in Round 1 but the handicap was still taken from the runs in Red lane.

Drivers were shuffled round a little, this time the racing didn’t get really close until Heat #4 as Geoff - 512BBLM (Yellow) and Brian - Maserati MC GT3 (Blue) made an interesting race especially on Lap 7 when Geoff’s Ferrari deslotted whilst the two cars were neck-and-neck giving Brian’s Maserati nearly half a lap lead…a lead that took most of the rest of the race for Geoff to catch up only to finish less than 1 second behind Brian.

Andy’s Huracan had an easy night, three clean runs with Geoff getting closest in Heat #1 when the Lambo was in Red lane.

The final heat was again interesting as Geoff - 512BBLM (Red), Ed - 412P (Yellow) and Kev Ferrari 550 GTS (Blue) lined up to finish the evening…what could go wrong with Ed in the middle lane!
…Geoff found out exactly what could go wrong, more than once too…if Ed chuckled any harder he would have fallen off his chair but he did apologise afterwards...what goes around...comes around Ed!
Kev’s 550 GTS avoided the carnage with a clean run to win the last race of the night.

Race reports - 24th August - Club GT40 followed by Club BMW 320i - club controllers

Despite club members working, marshalling in the Manx GP, away on a cruise or otherwise occupied, there was a remarkably good turnout and six of us raced with some super close and fun on track action.

Now before I go further, I made a faux pas and forgot to save the full results for the BMW race as I was distracted (or some other lame excuse) but do have the overall result for the BMW’s

Gav was back with a bang tonight, jokes aplenty, it was good to see him on top form again.

Club GT40
  • Geoff, Brian & Gav raced each other in all three heats whilst Nigel, Kev & Ed raced the other three heats.
  • Geoff, Brian & Gav provided the closest racing, although the overall results look like Gav was way off the pace, he wasn’t, finishing on the same lap as Geoff in Heat 1 and Brian in Heat 5…but struggled big time in Red lane - it’s those pesky sharp corners which were highlighted numerous times through the night in both lots of racing…but quickly forgotten with the inevitable marshal intervention.
  • Brian, Kev & Geoff all won in Yellow lane, the easiest of the three cars to race, with Gav, Ed & Nigel also getting their best lane scores with that car.
  • Geoff & Brian up for the ‘50p Trophy’ tonight, nip and tuck all night and very little between them all night.
  • Gav & Ed didn’t race each other but next to nothing between them, Ed setting the 3rd best time in Yellow lane but that red car sure hurt his overall result, how close it could have been without those (many) costly deslots.
  • Nigel is still getting used to adjusting his controller to suit each car, a reminder just before each race helped somewhat. Red lane was his downfall, like the others but 2nd place in Heat 4 in Yellow lane was his best result.
  • Kev’s first race (Yellow lane) with Nigel in Red and Ed in Blue…what could go wrong!...take it easy and stay in the slot.  There were a few times his lane was blocked but a gentle push of the offending car to get going again keeping both eyes peeled all night got him the best score overall.
  • …meanwhile, Geoff got the fastest lap of the night with Brian, Gav & Ed in the 6.6’s

Club BMW 320i

A bit of a swap round of drivers but the same drivers in the heats, the cars weren’t expected to drive very nicely as the rear tyres that were brand new at the start of the year and have only had two lots of racing before, looked chewed to death.  NSR Evo Supergrips…what a pile of ****!  We need to find something more useable, Thunderslot stock tyres are probably the answer as these are very close to the original NSR Supers in performance.

As I said, apologies for the lack of full results but the action on track was just as good as the GT40’s earlier in the evening.

Despite the shocking state of the tyres on the BMW’s this only added to the overall experience as we had to drive to suit not only the other drivers in the race but the cars handling, nevertheless these can drive so much nicer and with that means less crashing and less car damage.

Brian & myself came to the conclusion we need a second ‘Trophy’ to award some nights as there were great close races all night.

After the racing, Brian was coaching Nigel on his driving, most of us take it for granted that you eventually learn how to race so hopefully Nigel can reprogram his throttle finger as suggested and with time and practice should start catching the guys ahead.

Next week is Mosler ‘Club Challenge #5’ with club controllers

Reminder - The AGM is slowly but surely creeping up on us (end of October) if you have any proposals, take note of them because I’ll be asking for them to be included in the agenda in a week or so’s time.

Race reports - 14 September - Grand Prix/Prewing F1 + Classic F1/F1

It was fairly quiet tonight with four club members, this enabled us to have extended races, 5 minute heats all night.

Standard Grand Prix
Ed’s been working on his Cartrix Lancia Ferrari and packed the bottom of the chassis with tungsten rods…it may be heavy but it stays in the slot and goes remarkably well!

Modified Grand Prix
Kev raced his Mercedes W154, and Brian raced his trusty Vanwall

Open Pre-wing
Andy raced his Ferrari 156

The closest race was Heat #1 as Ed (Red lane) and Brian (Blue lane) both finished on the same lap with the Vanwall just over half a lap ahead.
Heat #2 was the only other close race as Andy (Red lane) finished a lap ahead of Kev (Yellow lane).  Kev’s Merc doing well to keep up for a fair few laps until the inevitable deslot as these are narrow and have high ground clearance, Andy’s Ferrari 156 finishing a lap clear at the end.

—--------------------------------------------

Standard F1
NSR was going to win this one, Andy spent a while working on his car as it began the evening a fair bit off the pace, Brian’s car has a distinct sound and Ed’s got to glue his tyres on to finish setting it up but was convinced Andy had done them (he hadn’t but Ed’s adamant he had).
Andy’s off the pace car was suddenly very much on the pace in Heat #1 (Blue lane) and was never in danger in Standard class.
Brian & Ed did race each other, Heat #5, the Vanwall in Red lane and the Ferrari in Blue lane.  A best lap of 6.5 for Brian whilst Ed got his best lane score in this race and best lap of 6.8

Open F1
Kev’s Black Bull the sole car in class is always on the pace and was involved in the fastest race of the night, Heat #6, the last one of the night, Andy (Red lane) and Kev (Yellow lane) amassed over 100 laps between them with Kev managing another very quick run…those tyres are showing signs of high wear…it’s only a matter of time…

Dunno what I was thinking when doing the F1 report but one line should have read:

Brian & Ed did race each other, Heat #5, Brian' NSR in Red lane and Ed's NSR in Blue lane.  A best lap of 6.5 for Brian whilst Ed got his best lane score in this race and best lap of 6.8

Race reports - 21 September - Small Sports/Saloons plus Group 5

A good turnout tonight as seven of us brought out the small favourites, tried and tested over many months.

Small Sports/Saloons

Brian raced with Ed & Gav for this class and his Ferrari 365P2 was really racing against Geoff’s Jaguar XK120 and Chris’s Alpine A110.  The Jag was the quickest of the three on hot lap pace with the Alpine not far behind but the Ferrari was more consistent and finished ahead of both of them with only two laps separating all three cars.

Ed’s Metro and Gav’s AC Cobra swapped results between them, Ed beating Gav in two of the three heats but Gav outscored Ed in two of the lanes but lost two laps in Blue lane.

Andy & Kev raced each other in two heats, the closest of which was Heat #4 with Andy’s Mercedes 300SLR and Kev’s Chaparral 2C crossing the finish line a few feet apart and no deslots.  This was the closest race of the night in both classes of racing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Group 5

During practice it was noticed how quick Geoff’s standard class BMW 320i was circulating…
“are they new tyres Geoff?”
“I’m telling you nothing”
…lap times that followed during racing says yes they’re new tyres.

To allow Brian, Chris & Geoff to race standard class, Kev opted to race against Ed & Gav.

Geoff & Chris have favoured standard class for ages and were joined tonight by a new car, Brian’s Wurth Racing BMW 320i.  He’s not had time to fully test it and tuning isn’t finalised and subsequently a little off the pace of Geoff’s BMW and Chris’s Nissan Skyline.
They did meet in one race, Heat #6 with Brian (Red lane), Geoff (Yellow lane) and Chris (Blue lane)...Geoff winning by three laps and setting lap times he would like to see his Mosler do next week.
Chris’s Skyline did best in the last race of the night, unfortunately with Geoff’s BMW on one side and Andy’s BMW on the other…he wasn’t able to keep up but also managed his best hot lap in this race.

Kev vs Ed vs Gav.  Although Kev’s BMW M1 was racing Ed’s Porsche 935 in Modified class the real racing was between Ed and Gav’s Capri on track, with Ed coming out ahead of Gav three times.  Kev avoiding car wrecks as best as he could without losing too much time.

Andy’s BMW M1 was racing Gav’s Capri in Open class but on track his closest race was Heat #2 with Geoff’s BMW finishing less than two seconds behind in Blue lane.

Race reports - 28th September - Saloons plus Sports

Another good turnout tonight, eight lots of Saloons & Sports

Saloons

With Ed & Gav racing together we’ve been adding an extra driver in to race with them, much to Geoff’s disappointment it was his turn but a great choice as far as the racing was concerned as Heat #3 was the closest race of the whole night.  Geoff (Red) Gav (Red) and Ed (Blue), OK there may have been a ‘couple’ of deslots but all three cars crossed the finish line only 1.7 seconds apart.

The other Standard class car was Kev’s Opel that had an untroubled night.  Thankfully he chose not to race the Scaley Astra V8 that made a right old racket, maybe next time after a couple of days running-in!  The Astra would have fared more than favourably against the recent Touring Proxy Opels that visited our track.

With four Standard Class, two Modified Class and two Open Class cars there was competition on three fronts, the closest class of which was Chris & Brian which went down to the last lap of the last race…oooh, how costly was that second deslot for Chris, despite winning the heat lost top spot by just over two seconds!  After the race Brian said “It was so exciting and full on”..it was a great race to watch too - we were marshalling, honest!

Andy & Mike raced two regulars in Open Saloon, both quick cars, the Mustang has a remarkable ability to look like it’s going to deslot but keeps going…whilst Andy’s Peugeot has a remarkable ability to look like it’s not going to deslot but keeps going quicker than anything else, setting the fastest single lane result in Saloons tonight.  No doubt we’ll see Mike’s Mustang again next week in the ‘Monsters vs Minis’ races.

Talking of monsters, Andy was testing his huge Galaxie 500, lapping in the 6.4 seconds range and not happy at that, let’s remember him driving one of the Galaxie 500’s in the Touring Proxy and saying out loud ‘I wish mine went like this’...that cars best lap was 7.0 seconds! Come on Andy let’s see you race it for a change, it’s seen plenty of practice but no RACE action.

Heat wins in heat order for Geoff, Andy & Kev
Class wins for Kev - Standard Class, Brian - Modified Class and Andy - Open Class

Sports

This time round it was Andy’s turn to race Ed & Gav…the fastest car on track vs the two slowest…what could go wrong!

What’s recently been a Mosler-fest saw a big change as only three of them turned up and we were treated to Sports cars, a Group C and an LMP car.

A popular race for Standard Class cars, Kev decided to race his white Black Arrow Lamborghini Murcielago, seen testing this last few weeks has turned out to be remarkably rapid winning the class comfortably and setting the fastest lap of the night.

A gaggle of Moslers followed the Lambo, Geoff’s proving to be the quicker of the trio, what was once a bouncy vibrating unpleasant car to drive is now a regular podium filler.  Brian’s re-worked Mosler is always there though, waiting for that faux pas…but not tonight, making do with 3rd in class behind Geoff and Kev.  Mike B’s Mosler has been round the block more than a few times but that’s the beauty of the NSR Mosler, it always performs, Mike’s is an original anglewinder and very consistent, finished 4th in class tonight.

Ed vs Gav was interesting, Ed’s Jag XJR9 has turned into one of his favourites, the good thing is it’s more than ready for the next Le Mans night.  Gav changed his mind at the last moment deciding to race an NSR Audi LMP, it was a good choice as it went well, finishing just over a second ahead of Ed’s Jag in Heat #1.  Ed got his revenge but only just in Heat #3 finishing just under a second ahead of Gav.  It was all down to their final race Heat #6…Gav finished less than a tenth of a second ahead of Ed.  Andy’s Lamborghini did get 'involved' more than once in the three races he was in with Ed & Gav.
…who’s turn is it next time?

Chris does like racing his Dome Judd and just couldn't get going properly tonight, the first two races (Yellow and Red lanes) just weren't what we normally see from this car - that changed big time in Heat #7 in Blue lane as he was flying round, finding over a lap extra.

There weren’t any really close heats as we saw in Saloons earlier but overall leader changed on the last lap of the last race despite a hefty deslot by Kev’s white Black Bull.

Heat wins in heat order for Andy, Kev & Geoff
Class wins for Kev - Standard Class and Andy - Open Class

Race reports - 5th October - 50’s & 60’s Monsters & Minis

Tonights attendance was partly affected by Covid, we did however have six racers, five club members and a visitor, Gordon from Dumfries Slot Car Club who enjoyed driving various cars on both BallaYorkley and Rally cars on Little Druidale.

Cars outside the 50’s & 60’s Monsters & Minis theme are marked as ‘Guest’ in the car ‘Type’ column.

These special events are a handicap, in the past we’ve had 5 qually laps in the Red lane, we’ve also used the best race lap in the Red lane but this one was going to be the best of your first 5 laps in the Yellow lane, theory being you’re generally slower in the Red lane and usually faster in the Blue lane, checking the 11 scores from the racing, this was the case.

Although you could race either of your cars in the first round, everyone chose their ‘Mini’s’ first…

MINIS

Ed, Mike B & Gordon were to race each other in the three heats of the first round of racing, Gordon’s Metro was comfortably the fastest of the three cars but power is nothing without control, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in his last race.
With Mike’s red Moggy Racer winning the three heats there was some very close races for 2nd place in the heats, Heat #3 Ed’s Mini finished 2 seconds ahead of Gordon and Heat #5 Mike finished 2 seconds ahead of Gordon.

Andy’s MiniSprint wasn’t threatened in the races apart from Heat #4 meant Kev’s MiniSprint got within 5 seconds after Andy’s car deslotted late in the race.

Brian’s Mini was a bit in no-mans land but did bag a 2nd place in the last heat as Kev’s Mini left the track twice late in the race.

Gordon’s Metro is marked as ‘Guest’ as it’s a 70’s car.

MONSTERS

As you can see from the photos these were huge in comparison to the Mini’s

Gordon had to leave as he had a prior arrangement, it’ll be good to see him return next year.

So we had five racers which meant two car heats except the last race which was Ed vs Andy vs Kev…

Heat #1 was Brian (NASCAR) vs Ed (Mustang).  Ed’s got that Mustang going well and won the race by two laps, Brian’s NASCAR had two speeds, go and stop but did manage an extra lap in Blue lane.

Heat #2 Mike B (Jaguar Mk7) vs Kev (Ford Galaxie 500)...The Galaxie was a little too quick for the Jag to keep in touch with.

Heat #3 Andy (Cadillac Le Monstre) vs Brian (NASCAR)...the Cadillac was the quickest car on the track tonight and the NASCAR was the slowest, the race result was going to be obvious.

Heat #4 Ed vs Mike…this was the closest race we saw as both Monsters crossed the line 2 seconds apart, the Mustang ahead of the Jag.

Heat #5 Kev (Galaxie) vs Andy (Le Monstre) were a lane apart and finished with Le Monstre three laps ahead of the Galaxie.

Heat #6 Mike (Jag) vs Brian (NASCAR) was relatively close, Brian managing his fastest lap and best lane score couldn’t keep up with the Jag, ending up just over a lap behind.

…and that final heat, Ed vs Andy vs Kev…was actually a good clean race to finish off a great evening that will be welcomed back next year, hopefully with ‘Guest’ cars upgraded to 50’s & 60’s spec.

Brian’s NASCAR is marked as ‘Guest’ as it’s a 2000’s car.

Next week is Slot Rally

Race reports - 19th October - Club Revoslots plus Club BMW 320i

Brand new original NSR Ultras on the BMW’s, these should hold up to racing far better than the Evo Supergrips that only lasted three lots of racing and were frankly shockingly bad value for money.

All the cars were checked for screw adjustment to be as close to the same as possible.  The blue Viper Revo has always been a bit unpredictable, it was found the body screws were far too tight, once adjusted it was much more competitive.

Club Revoslots

Mike turned up just in time to enable us to have 3 marshals and 2 racers and the first two drivers of Kev (Red lane) and Brian (Blue lane) lined up with the Revoslots for what was to be the closest race of the whole night as Brian won by less than one second.

Other close races were:
Heat #3, Andy (Red lane) and Kev (Blue lane) finished just over one lap apart
Heat #4, Brian (Yellow lane) and Mike (Blue lane) finished a little over one lap apart
Heat #6, Mike (Yellow lane) and Kev (Blue lane) finished just over one lap apart

Ed’s best race was with the Viper in the Blue lane in Heat #7 racing against Brian & Andy.

Heat winners in heat order - Brian, Mike B, Kev & Andy

Checking the tyres after the racing, bearing in mind these are 3 years old now, they’re fantastic tyres, don’t ball-up at all and have a smooth shine which gives tremendous grip.

Club BMW 320i

The drivers were mixed around a little then Heat #1 was Andy (Red lane) vs Ed (Blue lane).  The red lane BMW is the smoothest runner of the three, Andy won this race but only by a little over one lap.

Heat #2 was entertaining as Mike (Red lane) wouldn’t let Kev (Yellow lane) past to be lapped as he waited a couple of laps for Mike’s car to wander off the track.  We should encourage more racing like this, it was fun (but frustrating…what goes around comes around).

Heat #3 was another close one as Brian (Red lane) vs Andy (Yellow lane) finished just over one lap apart.

Heat #4 was close, Ed (Yellow) vs Mike B (Blue lane) which ended just over one lap apart.

Heat #5 was the closest of the BMW races as Kev (Red lane) and Brian (Blue lane) finished just over one second apart.

Heat #6 was another one lap decider as Mike B (yellow lane) vs Andy (Blue lane) even though Mike lost nearly a lap after an early deslot.

Finally, Heat #7, Brian (Yellow lane) and Kev (Blue lane) met for yet another close call with Ed doing really well in the Red lane with the smooth runner of the three.

Heat winners in heat order - Andy, Kev, Mike B & Brian

Looking at the BMW tyres after the racing, they’re showing signs of being raced hard but holding up much better than the Evo Supers that were on the cars last time.

Race reports - 9th November - Grand Prix & Prewing + F1

On a day that seems to have rained on and off for most of, a few club members were not able to get down but we had enough to race and marshal.

With a new event on next years race calendar - TV/Film cars - we’ve already had numerous sightings of Ed’s Batmobile but tonight we saw a few previously unseen cars during practice, Andy now has a Pioneer fastback Mustang (Film- Bullit), Pioneer Dodge Charger (TV - Dukes of Hazard) and a Scaley Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (TV - Knight Rider - K.I.T.T. - with lights and bonnet lights).  Kev was testing a partly finished Scaley Ford Gran Torino (TV - Starsky & Hutch - with lights and flashing roof light).  All of these cars have the original motor in and all go better than you’d expect.  This bodes well for a few entertaining night’s racing next year - Ed has already suggested costumes to be worn.

And so to tonights ‘serious’ racing…starting with Grand Prix & Prewing cars, racing 2+2, 2 racing + 2 marshals.

Grand Prix & Prewing

These are probably the most difficult cars to race being narrow and lightweight and the cars final results are usually spread far apart but there were a couple of close races.

Heat #5 was the closest of the two, Andy (Red lane) and Kev (Blue lane) both managing their best single lane scores and hot lap in this race, finished with both cars less than 3 seconds apart.

Heat #6 was fairly close as the other two drivers Brian (Red lane) and Ed (Yellow lane) also both managed their best single lane scores and Ed managing his best hot lap in this race.  Brian thinks the Vanwall was down on pace tonight, I don’t think anything’s been done to it since it was set up by Kev a few years ago, it’s been a reliable car but Brian is thinking of putting a different car together so he has a choice on these GP race nights.

F1

From probably the most difficult to drive cars to probably the easiest to drive…F1, in particular, NSR F1 of which there were three whilst Kev raced his trusty black MB/Allslot.

Of the three NSR’s, Andy’s was quickest, his closest race was Heat #4 against Kev’s MB/Allslot, a race in which both drivers achieved their best lane result and fastest hot lap.

Brian’s best result was in Heat #3 whilst racing in Yellow lane against Ed (Blue lane) and Ed’s best result was in Heat #6 racing in Yellow lane against Andy (Red lane).

Ed went best in the Yellow lane, struggling to find consistency with plenty of deslots in the same place, maybe he’ll get more consistency with his new controller when it arrives as it has a couple of extra tuning options to dial a car in.
