Fly 2022 models - coming soon!
#11

A Rothmans liveried Subaru Legacy for me.  Have been waiting too long to have a Rothmans Team service van. I'll start on it soon.

There is now a 3D printed prototype...

... and some proposed liveries...

It's a Mk3 facelift. Those hoping for an earlier version... I have heard vague rumours elsewhere.

More new tooling from Fly is a Renault 5 GT Turbo - not to be confused with the big chunky Renault 5 Turbo already in the range.

The GT Turbo was released in 1985 as a hot-hatch version of the second-generation Renault 5, followed by a 1987 'Phase II' facelift car. From the prototypes, it looks like Fly might produce both? The GT Turbo was a popular Group N rally car - famously winning the 1989 Rallye Côte d'Ivoire, making it the only Group N car to win a WRC round. Alain Oreille and Gilles Thimonier's winning car will be one of the liveries produced by Fly - together with their car from the '89 Monte Carlo Rally, which finished tenth (first in Group N)...

A model that is nearer release is this Porsche 911S that Sobiesław Zasada and Marek Wachowski drove to fourth place at the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon...

The London-Sydney is a great subject for a slot car series - an amazing 10,373 mile jaunt, starting at Crystal Palace on the 18th of November and finishing in Sydney seven days before Christmas. The route was magnificent, including a 24 hour slog from Tehran to Kabul that would be unimaginable today.

The Polish Porsche is one model Fly can manage from their current tooling - and there are three more 911s they could do, two British and one Kenyan. The race was won by the Hillman Hunter of Andrew Cowan, Colin Malkin and Brian Coyle - inheriting the lead from Citroën DS of Lucien Bianchi and Jean-Claude Ogier (no relation of Sébastien) who collided with a non-competing car after the end of the penultimate stage, less than 100 miles from Sydney...

Some nice footage of the Zasada-Wachowsk Porsche in there too. Fourth place won them £1,000 - not bad in 1968.

Why Fly has chosen the Renault 5 GT Turbo is not entirely clear to me.
A Renault Clio Maxi Kit Car would have been better.
Perhaps licensing costs played a role?

Work on the new cars has unfortunately been delayed by Covid cases at Fly. Let's wish everyone a safe and speedy recovery.

However, there is a picture of a Porsche 911 being produced exclusively for Weevils Slot Cars in the UK...

This is available from Weevils as part of their 2022 membership package: https://weevilsslotcars.co.uk/membership

After a rather long pause, Fly are back with some more prototypes...

Fly E2030 Porsche 911 Tour de Corse 1972 - Björn Waldegård / Hans Thorszelius. ForoSlot 2021 Special Edition.

No, your memory isn't playing tricks... this is the companion to the Larrousse / Delferier car from the same rally that has just been released by Fly. This one will be along soon. Here are the pair, side-by-side...

And there's another special edition Porsche...

Fly E2038 Porsche 911R Campeón de España de Rallys 1969. This is an exclusive to Cric Crac and is available in Spain now.

That's a lot of Porsches - but I did hear today that there may be an update about the Subaru soon.

Another of the Fly 25th Aniversario models is due very soon...

Fly E2509 BMW M3 E30 Rally Legend Boucles Bastogne 2019 - Marc Duez / Jacques Castelein - Modelo 25 Aniversario. RRP £54.95. Available March 2022.

It's not a livery I was aware of, but a Gulf-liveried car driven by Marc Duez is going to be popular - especially in Belgium!

The car took part in the February 2019 Legend Boucles à Bastogne classic rally event in southern Belgium. The Gulf BMW features early on in this 'best of' spectator video...

Duez and Castelein finished the event in eleventh - Mikko Hirvonen winning in an Escort RS1800.

The Gulf BMW will be available in Spain next week and is available for pre-order at Pendle Slot Racing here.

Updates from Fly have been a little sparse recently. One car that's due very soon is another of the 25 Aniversario models, the A2510 Dodge Viper from the 1996 Daytona 24 Hours...

This bookends very nicely with the same car that was released 25 years ago as Fly A1...

Although the livery on the original car was different. That's a tribute to how good Fly cars looked 25 years ago - but they have got even better!

No more prototype pictures - or up-to-date news of the new tooling - but three more cars have been officially announced...

Those are three rather splendid liveries on well-used and popular moulds. Only the Porsche was on the original list in post #6.
