Race Report
We return to Bluehaven Raceway at Old Bar for this week's racing hosted by Lindsay. Due to COVID vaccination restrictions and guidelines we were down two racers, Jeffery and Paul.
Racer's in attendance today: Lindsay (our host), Charlie, Joe and myself.
I always look forward to returning to Old Bar Raceway and Bluehaven Raceway, both small technical tracks. Our host this week had made some small changes and updates to the track, such as the track call button and a couple of car holders mounted at the Start line area, they came in handy for myself being able to leave a screwdriver in the trays for quick adjustments on the fly.
This week saw all racers on the podiums which is fantastic, again the the Most Outstanding was Joe, he made himself several podiums, just proves that a decent controller really does make improved results. Joe also presented to us another custom livery, this time he used all his scrap offcuts of vinyl wrap, the livery was bright on the track and just looked awesome, I think this would have to be his best custom livery so far, just shows that those bits and pieces we keep can be upcycled into something great, well done Joe on a great livery.
Several new Scalextric Trans-Am's made an appearance on the track, including the bright orange car from Charlie, I'm not an orange colour fan but this looked great on the car and on the track These new cars made the podiums as well, so great to see new cars and the podiums, I think these will be making many appearances on the podiums, will also be good to see how they go on Bluehaven Raceway with the nice metre straight, that's for next weeks racing write up, so you have to wait, sorry.
Myself I had the backup Slot.it Can-Am on the track for it's first official run, went pretty good, I think the tyres need changing out, more tuning for it is also required, this gave my Led Zeppelin Can-Am a rest.
The day saw some best laps times, several lap records and several very close lap times for the lap records, obviously Paul had set the lap times.
The LMP race event was an absolute blast for myself personally as this was and has been the BEST race I've had since starting in this hobby, my Slot.it Mazda LMP was a rocket with glue on it's shoes, she raced hard, braked hard, accelerated hard and literally left Charlie's LMP behind, close enough where a deslot by me would put me a lap down easily, the entire four minute's race was like this. Several times throughout the race I noticed I was holding my breath I was concentrating that hard.
During the previous weeks that I couldn't attend, I'd been noting my controller control and I am harsh with applying the power to full, when I concentrated on the controller an car, I was able to apply a much smoother power curve removing the harsh behaviour from the car significantly, so get out there people and practise your controller application, take a note of how you use the controller, it really does make a huge difference, more practise for myself will continue with this.
The comment was made that that race with Charlie and myself was one of the best and closest racing in some time for our group, being a part of that was fantastic, for me it wasn't just about the 1st place win, it was the actual racing, I thoroughly enjoyed the race with Charlie, he didn't let up neither, he made me work for the win which was great.
Thank you Charlie for the best race I've had, it was an honour and privilege to be with you on the track and in that race.
The Leaderboards and Podiums were again obtained by a mix of racers across all events. Congratulations to everyone on your Leaderboard, Podium wins and great racing.
As is natural for myself, I performed a couple of 'coming through' deslots, even Joe got in on the action driving on trying to clear his way through a deslotted car, he tried but no go. This week still see's myself having trouble with my Ninco cars, onto the next issue to fix, the body mounting screws.
All podium placed cars in the Revoslot race were all new to the track, Charlie with his JPS livery, Lindsay with his Dodge Viper and myself with a car that has finally come half decent the Ferrari F40.
The same happened for the Slot.it Can-Am's, all new track cars.
We ran a Fuel Race, run what you haven't raced, I had to leave before the race was done, though apparently I came second in that, sorry no photos or times.
Chaos Report Headlines
Not much chaos occurred this week, though we did have several major deslots that ended with high impacts to the wall and one race where a car deslotted into the other lane front on, thankfully no damage ensued but they sounded bad.
Myself I had a few coming through's, I did slow up so not to cause damage, just :) my Scaley Trans-Am still misbehaved on the track, so racing was stopped for a bit while Charlie and Lindsay had a look, the car was just full on chatter under acceleration, turned out that the rear end was twisting under power, bit if tuning was done and it's behaved a lot better on the track, thanks Charlie and Lindsay for that, much appreciated.
Guides, they really do a terrific job even though it is one of many items that could go wrong, these little blighters really do all the work, in very harsh conditions, sudden change, then back the other way in another instance, they handle hairpins under harsh racing conditions so we really should see more of these suckers snapping than what we see now, again for myself I had some sideways slop in the guide which wasn't helping matters so more track testing and tuning for that.
I had one significant sudden stop, we thought a screw had dropped into the slot but no, the guide must have been at the correct angle to snap the car to a sudden stop, no damage. Charlie had quite a few heavy deslot's, the most aggressive deslot was a full power straight ahead into the barrier fencing, for sure we thought something would have been snapped in that, thankfully not, the next lap around the exact same thing happened again, so paused racing and inspected the slot, nothing there, when I noticed one of the lane colour stickers was peeling back in the direction of racing, what was happening was the cowling on the Trans-Am was that close to the track surface it was enough to catch and deslot the car, we removed that and all was great again with the racing, something so insignificant could have ended badly.
