Sideways BMW M6 GT3 White kit
#11

So does it need a lexan interior? Looks like the standard one leaves room underneath for loads of 'stuff'  So just a weight saving benefit?

Not mentioned above, but is this beauty heading down the DiSCA WEC route? Will it be built for 6hr or 24hr?

Hello Jeremy

For home and most clubracers (depending on their class rules) a lightweight vacformed interior won't be necessary.
The whole tray including driver and roll cage tips the scales at just 6,5 gr.
And there's plenty of room underneath the tray to install a digital chip.

For DiSCA GT3 we still need to evaluate the M6's performance..but it would be logical and inline with the other GT3's to allow it.
And then a 5 gr shift in weight would be beneficial off course.

Anyhow I will make my own as the position of the driver is soooooo off Tappingfoot

I wil build my M6 so it will be able to run in both our analog GT3 club series (with stock tyres & interior) and the DiSCA GT3  races (with foam tyres and vacformed interior)

With kind regards

Anyhow, here's what my M6 may ultimately look like.
As with plenty of time on my hands (Covid) I decided to do a livery that was pleasing and challenging...and boy was I challenged.
Compared to this livery, the DiSCA Proton decals I did were a walk in the park.
Of course the Sideways M6 proportion being a tad off didn't make it easier  Tease
Anyway. here's the original car, one of the most stunning liveries ever done for the M6 GT3 (and with a good chance, one of the most stunning liveries overall)

Walkenhorst "Crystal Flake" M6 GT3 NBR 24hrs 2017
Team Walkenhorst has quite a reputation for running exotic liveries on their cars. For 2017 Dunlop sponsored a Art Car design contest, more than 77,000 designs were submitted, renowned artist Jean Pierre Kraemer winning with his “Crystal Flake” livery, here's what he had to say about the design :

“The chosen design is very impactful and will be very noticeable in the field. The design is modeled on the past two years with a lot of shadow play and many individual polygonal figures that break up. Thus the viewer has the impression that the structure is not quite smooth and the design looks like a crystal.”

Well stunning as it may be all those individual polygonal figures have kept me very very busy in the past weeks.
And it didn't help that the Team seems to make small alterations to the "design" on a race per race basis. Not did the version I wanted to recreate ( the NBR 24hrs car) by crashing  during the warm-up, meaning very few reference pictures were available.
But so far...I've managed to get it..this far.

Following my usual procedure of doing a full body wrap to produce a set of templates, then endless sessions of drawing, printing, test fitting, redrawing etc etc.
Most likely will split this topic at a later stage as I have some stuff planned for the car which go beyond a straight out of the box build of the sideways white kit.

Tamar

Stunning choice, and looks like you've nailed it looking at it from the UK!

Beautiful detailing, like the angled number plate on the doors. Shame Dunlop would not let the artist have a play with their logo.

"Not bad at all" as they say in Yorkshire

Thanks for the compliment Jeremy

The #100 Crystal Flake decals are 90 done, just need to split them up in decal groups and do one final check before I will send them to the printer.
But as I now have a full set of body templates for the Sideways M6 GT3...I thought well ...why not do the Walkenhorst sister car as well, the #101 Playstation.
Also a stunning car, and as Slotfabrik and MTR already have decals for the 2016 car, I decided to do the 2017 and 2019 versions

This car has a much simpler decal design, the challenge here is to find a way to recreate the Metallized foil they used for the Grey striping and the PSP4 symbols. Looks like we could do a Silver/aluminium decal and then a transparent decal on top with the color and images.
Although I will supply the grey striping on the decal sheet, for the best result they should be painted  with Alclad dark chrome or Zero paint Dark Chrome.

And then Peter (Wankel Ixks on SF) started asking questions about the # 55 ARTA Racing Autobacs M6 GT3, again a stunning livery... so with Patto's already having done the 2016 car... I set out to do the 2017 car, might do the same as with the Playstation decals... a combined sheet for both the 2017 and the 2018 version.

Here the challenge was finding the right reference for all the small, mostly local Japanse Sponsor logo's...but in the end...I got them all.

So that's my update for now. Looks like in a month or so there will be at least 3 bespoke decal sheets for the Sideways BMW M6 GT3, available via Slotfabrik and SV Works. And as I now have most of the Walkenhorst Sponsors on file....more could follow.

Whenever I start to think "I've got a grip" on slot car builds and preparation, I re read Tamar's posts to give me a reality check.
Tamar, your builds are masterpieces !

It's sort of the same for me...I read his recent post, and immediately went on the Slofabrik website to chose a decal I could apply to a white body for the GT3 chassis I have built.

5 minutes later, with my debit card in hand, i have a reality check, shake my head, and wonder what on earth made me think I had the skills to paint a body and apply decals that would end up looking anything like the actual car in the photo!

@ Allan: The reality check you should be getting from my post would be..that there is no such thing as having a grip on slots Bigsmile .
You may judge my builds as masterpieces, but I do f*** up's all the time, have just been doing them longer than you and have gotten better at covering them up.

@ Jeremy: Your reality check should be that the only way you will develop the skills to paint & decal bodies that will do the actual car justice..
..is to follow you dream and start building...which you have been doing so far, so keep doing it and you will get better (and the mistakes less noticeable)

You are right of course, Tamar. I want go directly into the first team, but I need to play in the reserved first!

I'm going to look up some 'how to decal' videos for starters. Although I feel more confident about applying a wrap rather than decals, if there were any around for 991s...
