argh, you're right it was an app issue. I've got an old android tablet and that worked straight away, it never occurred to me that it might be software, after all the dismantling and butchery of scalextric bits it is ironic there was a software problem awaiting me!

So digital is no working and car calibration is good, the next problem is it isn't picking up the start finish sensors. Can anyone with a Pro set confirm that lane 1 is furthest from the controller block and that the sequence the car runs over is a pair of leds in the track, an optical sensor, then the controller block and finally a second optical sensor.
